TBH I don't care. I have used all of them on Android, OLED, AMOLED, LCD, SLCD, etc etc, and I'm fine with any of them, as long as the auto brightness works well. That's the tricky part for good user experience, and imo iPhones' auto brightness is one of the best.

Most interested in the larger screen the X+ will offer. Been very happy with LCD in the past but like the OLED too. Not having OLED would not be a deal breaker to me, they both look great. Guess if I had a choice the OLED would win.

Bring on the Phablet!

Also an X owner.

I don’t care either way. A 6.5” screen isn’t big enough where you miss out on a lot like you would a tv. I’d rather have something that looks good to my eyes than worry about resolution or ppi.

I have a X but much prefer the display in the 8+ much clearer/brighter than the X

Haha, I’m sorry but WHAT?! Take both into the darkest room and then compare them. It’s not even close on brightness, contrast, and picture quality. 634 nits vs 550 nits. No offense intended I just can’t believe how much of a difference there is between the two.

I have always been extremely satisfied with the LCD on my 8+. However, giving the surprisingly lackluster resolution on the new 6.1” I’d do a personal comparison before you purchase. If your looking at the smaller phones it’s not clear what your choice and prices will be outside of the Xs 5.8” yet. I’m really looking forward to see how Apple prices the 8/8+. The 8 will be a super value if it’s below the 6.1”. I don’t see Apple doing that though. The 8 is more than enough for iOS 12 and 13. We will see very large changes in the OLED Displays for 2019 in their organic structure that will most likely push them well beyond LCD, especially in power efficiency. :apple:

You realize ppi is higher on the x right? What you are probably seeing or interpreting is there is no backlight on an oled. Each individual pixel lights up unlike a lcd panel. You’re seeing true black. Doesn’t mean it’s brighter or clearer because it’s really not.

I had the X for a few weeks but went back to the 8. I find the screen more comfortable for my eyes and the phone is more balanced when using one handed. I would prefer an LCD screen but will go with whichever iPhone I can get that has dual physical SIMs.

I just find it easier to read on the 8+ the text is far sharper vs the X and usable at a lower brightness than the X, the viewing angles are also better than the X.

You can even use truetone on the 8+ but when I use it on the X I have to ramp the brightness up to keep it readable. I also get eye strain with the X if I put the brightness down to save battery vs the 8+. It is only Face ID that keeps me using the X. Will be checking out all models this year and will defo be picking up a plus size but I won't choose until I get my hands on both models.

I like OLED better, but if it was the only difference between the two phones - I would go with the budget model. Unfortunately there will be a lot more concessions that make the budget model, budget. The 6.5 should have a better screen, better cameras, more ram, potentially promotion/wide color, all that crap. It's going to be more than just LCD vs OLED.

hi Marshall 73,

"but when I use it on the X I have to ramp the brightness up to keep it readable."

i see the iPhone X the same way you do.

i think it relates to the OLED's characteristic of PWM (pulse width modulation).
there is a great way for you to check this very simply.
the easy (and fun) instructions are given in this post:
https://blog.elcomsoft.com/2018/03/...to-stop-oled-flickering-in-just-three-clicks/

i will buy the new LCD model of the new iPhone that is released next month, not the OLED model.

Sounds like the size difference is what you like more is all. The width looks different when comparing them both. But sharpness isn’t physically Better. It can’t be.

OLED for battery saving when using dark themes within apps.

LCD because I dont want to have to worry about using dark themes

I’m fine with the LCD as long as it’s 1080p and not that 750p crap that Apple has been giving it’s 4.7” devices.

OLED is amazeballs. My iPhoneX has blown me away.
I've been still trying to figure out how to budget, justify upgrading my home TV now. :(

LCD will have backlight bleed. Also why you can get a 100" LCD TV for $299 free shipping, but a 55" OLED will run you a LOT more. One is better than the other.

Not everyone cares about black light bleed on a phone. My iPhone 8 Plus screen is really nice and has none of this bleeding that I notice.
