Got my AT&T iPhone 5 (Unlocked) replaced today. Had WiFi issues (kept dropping connection randomly) and the only way to fix was to power cycle the phone. I told the genius that I did a 6.1.4 restore as well as resetting the network settings. He offered me a replacement right away with no questions asked ;)

New replacement = NE486LL/A (FH19)

As far as data speeds go, haven't noticed much difference since I'm in a slightly refarmed area. Currently on the $30 Prepaid plan with 100 minutes. Funny thing is I was only getting Edge at the location of my Apple Store, after it was replaced, the 4G icon showed up :)
If you were getting Edge at the Apple Store you were not in a refarmed area. If you got 4G afterward the swap the iPhone was picking up 1700Mhz AWS 4G.

I'm in a refarmed area at home. The Apple store which is about 30 minutes away is not in a refarmed area.

I have a launch day AT&T iPhone 5 64GB black that I used a paid service to unlock. I was having some legitimate problems with WiFi/Bluetooth, so I went to the Apple Store to get a replacement. The genius brought out a replacement with model NE490LL/A with serial ending in FH1G.

I don't even need the T-Mobile AWS bands, but it was a pleasant surprise. I'm sure I'll have a bit easier time selling it when it's time to upgrade.

The replacement iPhone would have come with either 6.1.2 or 6.1.3, but the genius took the liberty to update it before giving it to me. While I was signing the paperwork, he mentioned it was already being updated. Oh well.

Had mine replaced because of the sleep/wake button issue today, got the new model, woo hoo, i guess? Anyway the sleep/wake button works good now :)

New to the forum, so sorry if this is posting a redundant topic...

Just had my unlocked iPhone 5 (64gig black) replaced under warranty at the Apple store here in San Diego, and was given a phone with serial # ending in FH1G. From what I have read on the forum this should be a T-Mobile AWS band enabled phone (my old one was not), but is there anyway to tell for sure? They kept the box that the replacement phone came in at the store, so I was not able to see if it had band designations.

My original iPhone 5 was on AT&T, but unlocked, and I switched to T-Mobile about two months ago. Service here in San Diego was shockingly bad. I assumed it was because the phone could not access the AWS band mostly used by T-mobile. But it seems like the new replacement iphone which should be using the AWS band as it has the correct serial number is actually getting worse coverage than my old phone without AWS...?

Any help in clarifying is greatly appreciated...

Is serial # the same thing as as IMEI or is that different.

They are different, as others said you should be looking for the serial # ending with a FH1F (or as long as it has a F in the last four) then you're good.

It has to be FH**
My old AT&T unlocked iPhone 5 had the last 4 ending on F38Y- and didn't support the AWS Band. So yeah, just make sure to follow and match the serial guide on the first part of this thread and you'll be good.

The only thing that I can think of is that you're getting BETTER service on your older iPhone 5 on EDGE (connected to PCS), now that you're on the newer iPhone 5, you're getting less signal bars on 4G, this time you're connected to AWS. But since ur now on the AWS 1700 band and on 4G- you should have better speeds. Please correct me if I'm wrong or missing something :)

I am monitoring threads if anyone gets the newer one for replacement and then go to apple store for replacement.

For those wanting to warranty replace your iPhone 5 for the AWS version I suggest you hurry and do so. Apple started their in store repair program so if you go in reporting a bad battery, bad screen or other repairable problems they will repair your current phone versus providing a new one that will have AWS support.

Have you contacted Apple Tech support about these issues?

not yet..last time I did they said to update to latest iOS...I'm not really keen on that..I like my tethering, hotspot and jailbreak tweaks...Its not possible to setup HotSpot using Straight Talk SIM on Stock iOS...need jailbreak to enable that...Also I cant afford to leave straight Talk / AT&T because T-Mobile has extremely poor coverage on the I94/I90 going out of Chicago towards Michigan...not to mention T-Mobile has poor/inferior coverage along all highways....T-Mobile is only good for towns, cities etc.

Hi, I been read this thread about ip5.. I had md638ll/a model and used on Tmobile.. I already make appointment with genius at 6:30 pm today to exchange the Tmobile ip5 with aws.. Cross my fingers for it!! What should I tell them wrong about my iphone? I'm going with the wifi and sleep button problem..?

Yes. If your iPhone is unlocked, it is replaced with an unlocked iPhone.

Looks like apple has rolled out the in store repairs pretty much for all parts...

Do u think its worth trying 1 more time?

I say ya it is, but the odds of them replacing are now lower than ever and are only getting lower as time passes....I want to swap out my iPhone 5 but still clinging onto my jailbreak...its just too damn amazing to give it up but I know i should go ahead and get it replaced. Gotten our other iPhones replaced about a month back tho just mine left.

How long ago did you buy your iPhone 5? If you can, purchase AppleCare+. You can buy a new iPhone replacement for $50 for any reason with AppleCare+.

I went ahead and replaced mine a month ago to get AWS support. I did lose my jailbreak. But there should be a new jailbreak with iOS 7.
