It's something I read in the first few days on Tmobile iPhone 5 launch on the forum here. Have you gotten your iphone 5 from Tmobile, unlocked? Please share what you did (did you buy on plan or outright), how did you get your unlock(what one should know to get it done), were you required to get plan when purchasing if paid in full?
Guys,
Please post the summary of what needs to be checked (serial#, factory date) to make sure the iPhone is capable of t mo AWS WCDMA.
This will be helpful for folks who are swapping an old unlocked iPhone for any reason.
Here is the official unlock guidelines: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
iPhone just launched and has different requirements than any other smartphone...
The link I posted is the brand new requirements that were posted with the iPhone launch.
I got an iPhone replacement at my local apple store with the model number NE491LL/A 64GB white AT&T iPhone 5.... I got my preivious model unofficially unlocked through a third party b4 it became illegal in the states... Every time I used to restore that old iPhone 5, it would give me the "congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked" screen... Once I got this new replacement, it stopped giving me the congrats screen when I restored... But I popped a T-Mobile SIM card in it and it would connect and place calls on T-Mobiles network...
I'm wondering if they gave me a factory unlocked model and if so would it not show the "congrats your iPhone is unlocked" screen when I restore?
nice! I am soon going to get my 32GB replaced hopefully they help me out. I'm starting think all GSN A1428 models are now being replaced by tweaked A1428 models as Apple is probably able to unlock the 1700 band in their factory where they refurbish the units.

I bought the unlocked AT&T version in November. I did not buy Apple Care+. Do you think I too get my phone exchanged for the T-mobile version?
For USA iPhone owners Just need to have model # Starting with ME or NE and Serial ending in the 4 combo's we have mentioned in original post.
As for Canadians as that is the only other place the A1428 model is sold...we havent had any input from people...
Satnam1989,
Quick questions:
1. Is it an *and* or an *or* condition between (Model Numbers ME or NE) (Serial Numbers ending with the last for ending with the below numbers)?
FH19
FH1C
FH1D
FH1F
FH1G
FH1H
2. You mentioned in another post that Apple is sending back 8 Million iphones to factory and that your take was exactly the reason of this thread (iPhone firmware update for Tmo AWS). If this is the case, the serial numbers may not change.

Sorry to hear that you got the one where there is no jailbreak (yet) but I am glad you got a replacement that works on T mobile.I got a replacement and it's the TMobile version but it's running 6.1.3 so I'm torn. Problem is my power button doesn't work at all so I took this. Hate that I don't have the jailbreak. Stock iOS 6 is awful.

Can you post your serial number's last four digits? Do they match with above mentioned numbers?
Thanks

Does the Apple store that you got your replacement phone from only has the T-Mobile branded phones in stock? If so, that's great! BTW, how is your replacement phone working out in general?
It's FH1C and model #ME487/LL. 16GB AT&T White.
Thanks for the info. Did you buy it unlocked? Was it before T mo launch date when you bought the faulty phone?
I am ina similar situation. The phone that I bought was unlocked in december 2012. My phone had lock mey issues and when I went to apple store last week, they were replacing with a a non tmo version. I rejected it and told them that I will try after some time with a hope that they run out non tmo version phones. Looks like that is happening faster that I anticipated.
I got it in the mail from Apple.com. Ordered the replacement last Thuraday. Phone seems fine. Power button works ha. Just wish it had 6.1.2.
Thanks for the quick reply! So the power button is so-so? Have you contacted Apple support about this?
I bought the unlocked iPhone 5 when it came out in December from Apple and had problems with it almost from the beginning. It's good to know that Apple's online store is now replacing the phones with the T-mobile version, at least that is what it appears to be.
