1. Does your phone have a yellow tint?

No worse than my second-gen iPod touch had, which was perfectly acceptable (the original iPhone blue screen was a bit harder on my eyes comparitively)

Whites are as white as the white on my professional graphics monitor when using "original panel color" - even whiter than when using 6500K. So, I'd have to say no, it's not a particularly "yellow" tint.

2. When was your phone shipped and from where?

Replacement in an Apple store from one that had a loose home button & volume rocker, and a rattle.

3. What model/color 3GS did you order?

32 gig white 3GS

4. When was it made? (check the third-fifth #'s of your serial number)

88927: factory 88, week 27

I think it's fair to say that all devices post production week 28 are virtually "colder" that those in previous light.

1. Does your phone have a yellow tint?

Yes. It's considerably more yellow than my 3G.

2. When was your phone shipped and from where?

Purchased from Apple store.

3. What model/color 3GS did you order?

16GB black 3GS

4. When was it made? (check the third-fifth #'s of your serial number)

Week 28

Seems that 32GB iPhones are more affected by this problem.

Agreed, I had initially gotten myself a 16GB 3GS and it was much "whiter/cooler" than my co-workers 32GB. My 16 was a week 25. My wife was eligible for an upgrade yesterday, so I got a 32GB to keep for myself and gave her my 16GB. The new 32GB (week 27) is MUCH more "yellow/warm". I got it at Best Buy, not sure if I want to try and return it there or make a Genius appt at apple to see what they say. I definately liked the screen on the 16 better, but I was practically out of space with more movies/tv shows to put on. Anyone have any luck swapping a 32 and getting one with a nice cool/white screen?

I *had* a week 21 32GB black 3GS with a perfectly normal, good looking screen. Unfortunately I had to get it replaced (broken sleep/wake button) and the (white box) replacement I just got, a week 28, has a horrid yellow screen. Going to go back on Friday and see what they think.

Group2: 3GS
Screen size: 3.5 inch
Screen resolution: 480x320 pixels
Colour: White
Capacity: 32GB
Factory: 87 (China)
Production year: 2009
Production week: 24 (June)
Seems to be slightly more yellow at the bottom. But at least no scanline issue like most of the 3G's had.
My old 3G had a perfect screen though. Anyone know if the screens are electrically and mechanically the same? Maybe I can swap them myself.

I already tried swapping screens... it didn't work. Don't even attempt it.

This is my screen.....the picture is not as nice as some of you guys. Not sure if I captured the color correctly or not but my screen compare to my original 3G(the pink case which my wife is using now) is more purplish or is that what is meant by yellowish tint?

So I went to the apple store today and looked at all of their demo phones....the ones from the 889 factory all exhibited yellow tinted screens for the most part, a VERY few were slightly less yellow than the others....the ones from the 856 (I think that was the number) had nice pure WHITE screens.

I originally talked to a specialist and told him about my issues with my 32 GB WHITE 3GS (loose vibrate/ringer switch, sim card tray gap, yellow screen) and I said that I was going to compare with their models. He said I should definitely do that and come back to him after I was done. After I compared models I couldn't find the specialist so I talked to the greeter and explained who I talked with earlier and my situation.

She then expalined some Apple genius BS about APPLE checking everything to make sure its within spec, and that I would have to schedule an appointment the next day to have a genius investigate....to which I held my yellow tinted 3gs and a nice white 3gs up to her and asked....you do see the yellowness, right? She agreed, but then recited the same apple within spec bs again.

I ended up saying, thats great, but for people coming from a 3G or even 2G that are used to having white colors appear white instead of yellow, adding to the fact that they have now spent over $1k on iphones, its seems unacceptable. I can totally understand someone new not even noticing, but for the people that have been here from the start that have owned all the models, they KNOW.

The showdown is tomorrow, 5:15 PM Eastern......I'll probably loose based on the line I was given by the greeter, but I gotta try anyway, right? I gotta try and talk with the original specialist I talked with when I first walked in....because there's aparently some jackass genius there who makes it his only goal to reject everything people claim, I had a customer warn me about him before I walked out this evening.

i noticed today that when i look at the 3GS screen with polarized lenses it produces a rainbow effect... this does not occur with the screen on my old 3G.. would the olephobic coating cause this?

Mine's from the 889 factory (week 23) and has a bluish tint to it. I went to the apple store and saw tons of phones with the yellow tint.

It seems that the 32Gb models are the ones that most affected by this nicotine yellow screen. I just went and bought a week 27 iPhone 3GS 32Gb and that screen was a nasty washed out yellow. I exchanged it for a week 29 16Gb 3GS since that's all they had left this 16Gb is much better in term of not being yellow but I see vertical lines when you load up a blank page in safari and compare the white balance. Guess I will be back at Best buy tomorrow.

What factory is your iPhone from? it's the first 2 digits of your serial number.

All the iPhone 3GS' are built in China. I'm just trying to get an idea which factory has the perfect screens.

It looks like everyone with black iphone are having this problem.

Nope. 32GB Black phone, not yellow at all. I think some of you are ****ing nuts.

People are driving around to Apple stores to look at demo models, returning countless phones, trying to pin point which factory in damn China the phones are coming out of. All in search of a screen that is a slight shade whiter than what they have? Seriously, what the F.

Obviously you have the pleasure of NOT having a crap phone from the get go. Since that is the case, here is a couple dollars. Why don't you run down to the store and get your self a lollipop or two and let those of us that are "****ing nuts" continue our conversation.

Thanks. ;) - BTW - look both ways before you cross the street.
