just givin ya a hard time cause it stuck out for some reason!

here's my pics at regular usage brightness (not 100%)

looks fine to me. What do you guys think?

Looks very slightly yellow, but definitely within spec. Yes, looks fine. Mine's a little whiter than yours. It's a 923 build.

Solve what?

The screen was intended to be warmer. You knew this before you bought it. And how would you "solve" the issue.

If this is a software thing why does the 3G still have the blue tint? I also want a warmer looking screen, it looks better.

1. Does your phone have a yellow tint?
More blueish? I wish it was as bright as the 3G though.

2. When was your phone shipped and from where?
From China, shipped w/ original batches I guess. Arrived on 6.19

3. What model/color 3GS did you order?
32GB - white

4. When was it made? (check the third-fifth #'s of your serial number)
925

Shipped from Texas on the19th 32 gb
black, week 23,

And this yellow tinge is driving me crazy!!

My computer screens are all set to a cooler color because I like it, this is horribly ugly yellow.

posted this in another thread.. but here's mine... it's probably just a bad batch, because mine doesn't have the yellow tint. Picked it up from a apple store on release day.

1. No
2. Ontario, CA
3. 16gb Black
4. Week 21

Compared to my old 3g looks the same. Compared to my 1st gen Iphone, looks way better!!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Pointless thread there is no yellow tint issue.

This is a problem. The screen is not intended to be warmer. There is a yellow tint issue.

How do I know?

At first I thought maybe they had changed the color tempurature again. Then I compared it side by side to my friend's 3G S. His looked nearly the same as my 3G, only a bit brighter.

Mine looks like a hobo peed on it.

Went to the apple store and compared mine to the demo models. Mine was much more yellow. Made a Genius appt. and showed them the difference. Got mine replaced and all is good now.

Ugly warmish tint (especially compared against my 1st gen Touch).
Apple store in California.
16 GB white 3GS.
Week 21.

What will the pro photographers think of previewing photos at this color temperature?

It is very apparent that there are a bunch of new 3GS's out there with very warm screens/yellowish tint. It appears those shipped China have good screens, while those shipped from Tennessee have the yellow tinted screens.

Soooooo let's find out! Please list this info to help:

Thanks hopefully we can find out if it's just a certain batch or just randomly varies.

I'm coming from a 2G iPhone to a 3GS. The warmer screen is terrible!!!! Whites look yellow. And it's even more apparent when you have them side by side.

This is ridiculous. I guess I'll keep returning mine to the Genius Bar as defective until this fix this issue.

The 3GS may look yellow but the 3G looks pink...

If it looks pink, then you seriously need to calibrate your monitor.

My 3G S is way, way less yellow than my 3G.

Nobody said all 3G S have defective screens. The point here is that some of them do.

We've already got 4 threads on this topic, we don't need a 5th.

Reading the MacRumors forums makes me fear Idiocracy really is our future. I honestly don't know how some of you people get dressed in the morning.

My 3GS is somewhere between my old 2G and my friend's 3G in terms of color temp.

I should have just posted the link here. My fault, mods.

Timb: The only interesting part of Idiocracy was the first 5 minutes. If you kept watching past the 25 minute mark, then I'm quite impressed that the genes which define you have actually survived to this point and coalesced to make you :p

Just exchanged my Black iPhone 3G S 32GB at the Apple store because of the yellow tint issue and the replacement has the same problem!!!

First I had to deal with an Apple Genius who said the screen was fine and that all the iPhone screen colors are different and that is considered normal by Apple. I finally requested a manager who reluctantly agreed to the exchange after seeing the difference between my wife's White 3G S and my Black 3G S(both are 32GB and week 25).

The problem is that the replacement unit has the exact same yellow tint as the unit it replaces. It is not terribly yellow, but when I compare it to my wife's White 3G S it looks hideous.

Of course the manager that authorized the exchange saw the new replacement unit and told me they can't exchange it again because they exchanged it once as a courtesy and that it can't be a problem if both the original and the replacement have the same colors.

So now I don't know what to do... When I got my 3G I had similar problems and eventually got used to the yellow tint after many unsuccessful exchanges... It's just the new 3G S is even worse... Seems like Apple dropped the ball, again...

Mine is slightly yellow. It's pretty noticeable if you put it and my old 1st gen iPhone side-by-side. However, I can live with it. It doesn't bother me enough to go through the hassles of returning it.

However, changing the brightness makes a big difference (I use the default 50%). Raising the brightness makes the yellow go away, but makes me feel as if I'm getting a suntan .... It's probably also doing really bad things to the already short battery life.

1. Does your phone have a yellow tint?
Yes -- my cat is white not yellow!!
2. When was your phone shipped and from where?
From China on the first flight out to Anchorage
3. What model/color 3GS did you order?
32GB White
4. When was it made? (check the third-fifth #'s of your serial number)
925

They better recall or at least accept these yellow tinted iPhones for exchange for a brand new one. If any of us purchased a Macbook Pro and it had a yellow tint to everything you looked at, you would want a replacement! Night and day difference between my 1st gen and 3GS.

Edit... Wasn't this issue resolved in the 3G phone by a firmware update?

So I went to the Apple store today and swapped my phone. I had the 32GB Black build 925/China and swapped it for 32GB Black build 924/China. And...still has crappy yellow tint compared to other 16/32 GB in store and my old 3G.

So, I'll wait to see if Apple responds to the color temp issue before I go back AGAIN. I spend more time on the iPhone than any thing else I do during the day (sad..) but I need to have a good screen. Is that TOO much to ask for Apple (who sold 1mil phones and made a pretty penny).

Don't settle. Demand a change.

Don't hold your breath. The complaints were even louder last year and all they did was issue a statement saying the screens were deliberately calibrated warmer.

Did they really? I didnt know for sure if they did. I was still on a first gen phone previous to the 3GS. Which update was it, and how did it affect the phone?

I got mine swapped for a week 24 phone and while the color is definitely warmer, it's not at all like the one I had before. This new one has a warm tint but it doesn't seem dirty or anything. So far so good.
