Hello,

I want to know what picture settings you use on your LG 34WK95U 5K Display. What settings do you have?

I use the monitor mainly for content creation so I need accurate colors:

Auto Brightness: On
Contrast: 70
Sharpness: 50
Super Resolution+: Off
DFC: Off
Uniformity: Off
Gamma Mode: Mode 2
Color Temp: 6500K
Response Time: Normal
Picture Mode: Custom

I'm not sure about the Gamma Mode. Mode 2 is default but the manual says if you don't want to adjust it select Mode 4.

Can I ask what its connected-to and what resolution you're running?

As per my post in the other thread...

I've been using the 34WK95U with my new MBP for the last while and its great - have found a nice scaled resolution - but have connected it up to my M1 Mac mini and can't seem to find anything between the native 5120 x 2160 where the text is tiny and the "looks like" 3008x1269. Using Switchresx I just end up with a load of blurry text regardless of resolution.

On the M1 Pro, the resolution is 3840x1620 and looks great.

3840x1620 with Switchresx on the M1 Mini is blurry.

Is this the "issue" with the M1 Mini and monitors I keep reading about?

First-generation M1 Macs cannot do scaled HiDPI resolutions wider than 3008 pixels, so 3008×1269 is as good as it gets. SwitchResX’s 3840×1620 is a non-HiDPI resolution and thus, horribly blurry.

You can apparently work around that limitation using BetterDummy. But it comes with several drawbacks.

Thanks for confirming @Amethyst1, I'd lost track of the details of this stuff when it came to monitors.

After the update to MacOS 12.2 the 3840x1620 resolution is gone on my M1 Pro.

Anyone have the same issue?

Ok guys, I have noticed something which is really strange. You can get 3840x1620 resolution back if you use SwitchResX!

Don't know why Apple makes it so complicated but I reported this bug already to Apple.

If you have the same issue, report to Apple please!

Does this limitation apply to M1 Max MacBook Pros? Is it all M1 chips? Are just the ones that came out first (Air / Mini)? thx!

There is only a limitation with M1, not M1 Pro/Max. So the Pro and Max CPUs can use HiDPI resolutions wider than 3008 pixels but now with Monterey 12.2 there is a bug. So you should stay at Monterey 12.1

I’m wondering that nobody else reported this bug in Monterey 12.2. My friends MacBook Pro M1 Max has the same problem so it’s definitely a bug in 12.2

Where are the 34WK95U owners? 😀

Anyone tested it on Monterey 12.3 Beta? Same issue or fixed?

I can confirm that 12.3 Beta (first and second) broke Thunderbolt output to my 34WK95U on my 13" M1 MacBook Pro. I had to revive the firmware back to 7429.81.3 from 12.2 and now it works fine (though it's still fussy on which TB3 cable I use...I just bought an Apple one so hopefully it will be better)

I assume that Monterey 12.2.1 will have the same issue like 12.2 or has anybody tested that?

Still on 12.1 ;)
My resolution got all messed up all of a sudden on 12.1

Is it still working ok for you? can you share a screenshot of this screen? use to see 4 options for the monitor under "scaled" now its a bunch of crappy resolutions

I have M1 pro 14 inch and nothing is working for me, I even wiped and downgraded to 12.0.1 and 12.1. SwitchResX doesn't even work for custom resolution, I get "invalid"

If you use Monterey 12.0 or 12.1 you don't need SwitchResX. These versions support 3840x2160 resolution.

Make sure the firmware of your LG monitor is updated and use the Thunderbolt 3 cable which was delivered with the monitor.

Firmware Updates on my LG 34 never worked. Not even on a PC laptop, unfortunately. It’s also impossible to check anywhere, what the latest versions are - except from asking around in the community.

You have to install LG OnScreen Control which you can download on LG's website. For the current monitor firmware version, run OSC(OnScreen Control) and click Confirm Update to display the current version.

Anybody knows about 12.3 Beta 3, is the issue fixed now?

That’s what I did - on a Mac and a PC laptop. The OSC app never caught an update, although I read about newer FW versions for my screen online.

That means your monitor already has the newest firmware so don't worry, everything is ok. :)

Ok guys, so I figured out that the issue still persist on 12.3 Beta 3. Still no 3840x1620 screen resolution. :(

For those of you reporting success (or lack thereof) could you also include please the exact computer you're using, and whether you're going through a hub and if so which hub and via which connection?
