I get between 4-5 hours SOT. I would struggle to get past 3 on the S6.

At least I'm not the only one who would struggle with getting beyond 3 SOT with my S6 edge. I'm not sure how others are getting more (whether they have brightness turned way down or something) but it always eluded me.

Are you utilising auto brightness on the G4 ?

I always got 4-5 hours SOT with my S6. I did not have the screen brightness turned way down. There have been quite a few here on MR that have great battery life on a S6.

Out of interest where abouts did you have brightness set yourself? For example I leave mine on auto brightness + slider on full. I've read others getting 5-6 SOT having slider at around 25% (auto brightness off). To me that's too dim especially outdoors.

I tend to leave all my phones on auto brightness and slider up to top and let the auto brightness / adaptive brightness do the work. It's often the only way of also getting full outdoor sunlight visibility I find.

I don't use auto brightness unless outdoors a lot. I set my brightness level on all my phone (no matter what OS) to just under half to a third brightness. For me that works best for my usage.

So, curiosity got the best of me and I ended up buying the TMO brown leather back G4 yesterday lol..

I'm not sure if it's just my unit or all.. but this thing gets hot doing simple tasks like streaming music via BT in the car... or using GPS just murders the battery.. Also I find myself, occasionally, tapping multiple times before it registers a touch [ maybe it's my skin ? ]

Battery is amazing in standby, but drops pretty quick when I start using it.. ~ 1% per 2 mins or so!

Other than that, I love the design, feel, weight, and size! Also, the speaker is quite amazing and the camera is outright ridiculous! The device itself is pretty quick, spare a stutter here or there [ using the LG UI, haven't installed Nova yet ]

Gets a bit more snappier with dual screen and smart selections disabled.

I really...really wanna like this phone!! ... I know it's too soon to conclude so will use for a few more days before making a final decision :)

Has it finally been released in green. I always wanted the green one but initial launch no green was available here.

Auto brightness the majority of the time. I don't think a day passes where I don't get at least 4+ hours of normal usage.

With auto brightness and slider set as bright as it can get, using the phone outdoors will chew through the battery like a hot knife in butter. The auto brightness will turn everything up to full while outdoors. If people are using their phone this way then of course battery life will suffer greatly.
I use auto brightness then have it set to just under half to a third. Which is perfect for me. The screen on the S6 is pretty bright as it is not like some Moto or LG phones where the screen is pretty dim.

It for sure needs to be noted that being outdoors with auto brightness will absolutely devour your battery really quick because the S6 screen goes super nova bright.

With peak levels of 780cd/m2 just about any phone battery will get gobbled up quick.

I've really been enjoying the G4 for the past several days. Battery life has worked out to be about the same as I was getting on the S6 (4-5hr SOT). I'm certainly pleased with that, considering it's a changeable battery. The phone feels really snappy and I haven't experienced any big heating times.

Question for those who may know, how likely is it that the G4 gets rooted at some point? I'm new to LG phones and wonder how easily their phones are typically rooted for custom roms.

I think it depends on your carrier in the US. But looking over at XDA I don't think the US variants have root or unlocked BL yet...

Ya, I knew they didn't have it yet. Just curious how easy LG phones have been historically to root and unlock BL. HTC, for example, is VERY easy and accommodative in this regard while Samsung seems to go out of their way to lock stuff down tight (Knox).

Mine arrived 2 days early! So have been playing with it all day.

Can't comment on battery life, but a brief review - LG took the G3, and made everything better.

It's not a radical revolution, more an evolution. The screen is great, the camera is amazing. Having bought the S6 Edge previously, the G4 (for me) is the kind of versatile phone that I'm able to throw around as my daily driver without worrying that the glass might break.

Immediately put the Google now Launcher, but the system skin is generally pretty good at getting out of my way. The unit is a touch larger, but already can tell the camera is fab, the speaker seems much better as the back curves up slightly (the G3 would muffle the speaker if laid flat).

After a couple of hours, the unit settled down and is now running pretty much lightning fast. Haven't had any overheating issues, and touch wood the screen hasn't had any issues that others have had too.

There is still room for refinement, but having had the G3, LG really came correct with regular updates that improved it every couple of months (and they had Lollipop before anyone else, so here's hoping with M).

After a day, the only reason that this won't see me comfortably into 2016 is if the next iPhone really inspires me, but otherwise yep, LG seem to have done a great job.

Yes, 100% Autobrightness. My S6 was usually on 50% auto.

Like I already stated, I have always wanted a phone in that color and when I saw it I just could not resist!!! I have never owned a Samsung device in my life. The only Android phone I owned was an HTC One M7 so my opinion of Samsung phones was not a qualified one. Loving the phone so far!! :D

Congrats!! Looks very sharp indeed !!

Where did you buy it from, if you don't mind telling :) Unlocked or not ? Thanks and enjoy!!

Thank you. I don't think it will help since I live in the UAE and have ordered it from a UAE online retailer. And yes it is unlocked :)

It's funny LadyX is heading over to the new Galaxy from the G4, because I've decided today that the G4 has won me over from my Galaxy S6. The expandable storage, replaceable battery, screen size, camera and form factor have won me over. Plus little things like double tap to wake and the design language of LG's skin is more to my liking than the Galaxy. They're both fantastic devices, but the little details on the G4 fit me better. There are a few things about the S6 that I'll miss though, most notably wireless charging and the fingerprint scanner. Time to take my S6 to Swappa!
