I hope the iPhone 6s matches the LG G4's f/1.8 aperture, although if I had to guess, I would bet on only an f/2.0 aperture :(

Also, the LG G4's 8 megapixel front-facing camera speaks volumes against the iPhone 6's 1.2 megapixels!

I got a G4 to replace my G3 on launch day. The only ones they had in the Verizon store were either the white ceramic back or metallic back. I went with the metallic back. I really wanted the black leather, but I usually use a case anyhow so I figured it didn't matter. Build quality is very similar to the G3, but the chrome band around it looks better then the silver plastic one on the G3. The best improvement in design is the slight curve of the phone. It's more comfortable to hold and talk on in my opinion. I know it's not an all metal unibody like the S6 or iPhone 6, but having a removable better and SD card does limit some design choices. I think LG is smart to go after this market since everyone has left it.

Performance is very good and I don't notice any lag with the stock launcher like I did on the G3. LG has polished up the UI and it looks and works well. The cameras on this phone are excellent! If you like to take selfies you won't believe how good you look in the forward facing camera! Battery life is decent. I'd say it's about the same as the G3. The display is much improved over the G3 and the colors pop out much better.

Last, LG has a great deal until June 30th for getting a free extra battery, SD card and charging stand. If you get a G4 you can fill out a rebate form for these extras.

Overall I'm very satisfied and although this phone will never sell as well as the S6 or iPhone I believe LG was smart offering an alternative that is actually different. There are plenty of Samsung fans that don't care for the sealed S6.

Edit: I wanted to add one thing... If you are a Verizon customer the good news is they did not put the Verizon logo on the front glass like they did on the G3. It makes the front look a lot nicer in my opinion.

I got my new G4 last Tuesday (6/04) all I can say right now is that I'm overall very impressed by it when I get the chance I may give it small review.

I had mine for a day before it started to overheat and freeze. I returned it. BTH it was not for me. The phone was not a good fit for me. It just did not appeal to me at all once I had it in my hands and used it. But i am not going to put the phone down. It just wasn't a fit for me....

Lol why what was it?

Like Jamezr said, it was very hot when using it and mine even remained hot for some time after I finished doing my initial setup. I was all for the device but once I got it and felt it in hand something just turned me off about it. Maybe its me coming from nothing but premium built phones and when I got the G4 it just felt cheap in my hand compared to my 6+ and previously owned S6.

The EXACT same reason I took it back. Got it in hand and was like I just felt mehhhh about that phone.

Ah okay. I did not experience any overheating or freezing. I've noticed with the G4 people either love it or not. My phones have all been premium built as well, my first phone was a BlackBerry and after that it was all iPhones. The only Android device I owned was the HTC One M7 and that is considered premium as well. But regardless of the phones I owned, I did not find the G4 cheap at all. Solid build quality IMO and I love how light it is. But I guess everyone is different and that is OK :)

Yeah I know its a solid built phone but I guess it was just a mind thing with me. I want a secondary android device but im trying to figure out which device that I actually want. i think I am going back to pick up an S6 and have that with my 6+.

I don't have anything negative to say about the G4. Just because it wasn't for me does not mean it is not a great phone. For me it just wasn't a good fit.

Yes I understand. Samsung make great phones but they don't appeal to me. Nothing wrong with that :)

Picked up one last weekend, traded in my Galaxy S6 for it. The larger screen was my main reason for switching.

Every store I went into in the UK had the leather back as default, with the plastic back included in the box.

The battery life is so much better, the skin is close enough to stock where it doesn't annoy me.

So here's some of my initial impressions after a night of goofing around with it and setting it up:

  • THIS is the size a 5.5" screen phone should be! (I'm looking at you, iPhone 6+!)
  • Camera is as good as advertised.
  • UX or whatever the skin is isn't too bad. Has some nice options for customizing, though I slapped Nova Prime over it already. The way you unlock the lockscreen is cool! Does a kind of peek feature.
  • Screen is fantastic. Not sure how I'd say it is compared to the s6 since one's LCD and one is AMOLED.
  • Phone felt snappy and quick. Did get a little hot while loading apps from the Play store.
  • BestBuy only had the plastic backed version. It's not BAD, but if I keep it I'd definitely want to get one of the leather backs.
  • Love having the option to add MicroSD or change the battery. Really wish the S6 had kept those. (But that's another comment for another thread)
That's all for now. Can't really comment on battery yet as haven't even been through a full cycle.
