I sleep/wake my laptop a dozen times a day and have never had an issue with the monitor.

If this was driver related I'd think everyone would have this issue.

Could Apple be loading different drivers for different system configurations?

If there is no chance different laptop models could get different drivers then this would have to be a hardware issue on either the laptop or monitor.

From what I have read, it seems to be an issue with the Radeon Pro 460.

Except that I am having zero issues with my setup. Everything is working as it is supposed to work.

Lucky! Could potentially be a combination of hardware one is using. The single kernel panic I did get said something about my Yeti microphone and other USB items. And apparently others who mentioned it in other thread have said the OSX beta fixed it. Who knows.

The MacBook works perfectly alone with no issues. On another note, I am having my LG display replaced as threes a yellow tinge on it.

Zero issues here with a 2016 MBP 15". The monitor is beautiful. I upgraded from a Thunderbolt Cinema 27". I am probably the only one, but I think the LG is a better looking display then the 27" Cinema in everyday including the stand, bezel, and overall design.

The LG 5K is definitely a nice display, especially in person. If it had the glass cover it would definitely give it an Apple polished look. I really like the quality both the display itself and the design. So far so good.

And the ethernet will be full speed do we think?
Seeing quite a few mixed reports depending upon which particular dongle/drivers/etc... :-(

I've had no issues with anything plugged into the USB ports. Though I do have wake/sleep issues. If I use the MBP in clamshell mode and unplug the cable, the MBP screen won't display anything when I open the screen.

Interesting - I'd be using it open all the time in front of the LG while using the MBP keyboard/trackpad as primary for all operations.

Mine finally arrived today after missing the UPS guy yesterday.

So far, so good. No problem to be reported.

If anything, I think the glare is a bit more than what I was hoping for, and the fact that it doesn't have another TB3 port, meaning I can't put an adapter on it to connect my Pegasus R4.

The full 5k resolution is insane... when I first switched to full resolution, I thought I clicked on the expose button considering how far apart everything is.

Since the 5k display is using so much of the Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth, I don't think you would want your Pegasus R4 attached to a Thunderbolt 3 through-port on the display. I'd even put it on a the set of ports opposite the display just to even things out.

Finally got my dual 5k monitors set up... been using them for 2 weeks now.

IMG_0996.jpg

Only had one crash after sleep so happy there.

One monitor has the speakers(USB C adapter) and then two 3.1 Gen 1(new USB C cable) enclosures running full speed with 3TB HDDs in...

Very rarely need to plug in the Hootoo hub but that goes directly into MBP....

It still hates switching from the two monitors being unplugged then used to extend onto an Apple TV, had to do a few resets with this but its fast to reset so not the end of the world...

Happy...

Just need to buy Gpyph Atom Raid 1TB of equivalent but in no dire rush to get that.. need to see if anything new comes out....

Received my 5k yesterday and TRIED to set it up. For about 30 minutes, I tried everything to get a stable setup but in the end its going to go back. In the end, I got 3 kernel panics and a flickering screen for my trouble.

The monitor (or cables) seems VERY sensitive to emissions. I work with hardware and software engineers with lots of radios/bluetooth etc so the environment is very EM noisy. Between the corporate wifi in the ceiling and the various scopes and radios we use, it didn't stand a chance. The display was turning on and off constantly. I got it to work for a few minutes once and it was pretty...then it started again. LG...put some shielding in these things? How does it get an FCC Cert like this. Bringing it home last night proved that in a home environment it was fine. Connected right up...sigh.

The cabling also appears touchy...as in don't touch it. I tried a couple of other thunderbolt 3 cables, none would reliably connect. I use a standing desk so need a reliable connection cable since the cable moves up and down multiple times a day.

Since I can't very well build a faraday cage around my office at work (can I?) the monitor is going back...:(. I was really hoping that my setup finally complete.

Sounds (particularly the next to last paragraph, but a lot of the rest too) like you got a faulty one. Had mine a week and a half and have had zero similar issues.

My 5K arrived a few days ago. I am using it in extended mode with my 2016 15" MBP (460, 16GB) on a Rain mStand. I haven't had any sleep issues and, while I haven't pushed the GPU, I haven't noticed any sluggishness or other visual artifacts.

I am coming from using a 27" Thunderbolt Display

Some comments:
  • I love the display itself. I am using mine at the highest scaling and love having the extra space compared to the Thunderbolt Display.
  • Physical display aside, I don't have any issues with the monitor's aesthetics. It's certainly not as good looking as the Thunderbolt Display, but the monitor seems to fade into the background due to the color and the smaller borders.
  • For some reason, the display seems small to me. It's probably because there is less bordering than there is on the Thunderbolt Display. It's making me consider getting a larger display (though there aren't any suitable options that I'm aware of) or getting a second 5K.
  • I have a Seagate Backup Plus Hub external drive plugged into the back of the 5K (using a Belkin USB-C to Micro-B cable). I haven't had any issues accessing the drive when plugged into the display, but oddly enough, haven't been able to get it to mount when plugged directly into the MBP (I only tried the ports on the same side as I am using to connect the 5K (left), but I don't see how that would be the issue).

I agree that it seems smaller. I'm coming from a 27" iMac so they're they exact same. Weird.

Perhaps I spoke too soon. I was on a Google Hangouts call using the camera & mic built into the 5K display. The camera and mouse dropped out, as did everything plugged into the 5K (external hard drive, keyboard, etc.). The display did not drop out, however. Unplugging and plugging in the USB-C cable into the MBP restored everything except the hard drive.

Been using mine for the last two days. It is a MAJOR upgrade over the 27" Thunderbolt Cinema. I was never the biggest fan of the Thunderbolt Cinema due to glare. The LG 5K has almost none. In fact it appears as a matte display when in use.

Additionally, as mentioned, I like the look of the display much more then the Thunderbolt Display. It looks minimalistic, professional, and clean. The Thunderbolt looked overdone and stood out as a Apple accessory.

they do seem small, considering after using dual 30-inch Cinema Displays they seemed much more massive and these seem much smaller and lighter (which is not a bad thing).

So I swapped my 15" for the top spec retail available model so will see later if it has crashes and massive fan issues like the previous model.

The 30" displays always looked massive to me. No, it's not a bad thing that this one seems smaller, but it makes me think that I could be happy with a larger display if the bezel was similarly compact.

trying to get a dual 5k set-up my self, the two so far I received have had dead pixels dead center of the screen...hoping the next replacements will be okay.

anyone successful in getting an advanced replacement for these to use them and test until replacements arrive?

I haven't ever gotten a dead pixel and I've been buying LCD's since 2002. I would think the quality control at least in 2016-2017 would be able to catch such issues with LCD displays. I hope you get two perfect ones. They're truly beatuiful.
