Can't imagine football manager taxing a graphics card too much, there is a thread here (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/radeon-pro-450-2gb-vs-460-4gb.2010986/page-8) that seems to have a ton of info in about the different cards, probably worth a read.

The long shot I guess, is if you can afford it and don't mind being without a laptop for a few weeks, having a better card is always gonna be better for graphics intensive apps, but it might impact the battery life and thermal performance of the laptop.

Mine is due around 10th January, I'll give FM a go using my 13inch and see how it performs for you :)
Yeah, wouldn't have thought it's all that taxing, and the 455 runs it beautifully on the native panel. Just wondering if the extra grunt would be worthwhile when shoving around a lot more pixels on the LG

I'm looking forward to the 5k but the recent posts sound very disappointing.

I don't expect to game on the 13" with or without the 5k panel but choppy animations in Safari / dock / Spaces switching is very disappointing.

Hope to get more feedback from people with the 13" who get the 5k today or tomorrow. If everyone has the same story I will probably cancel my order.

For those that have the 5k, I saw a post in the last week saying LG has a firmware update for the monitor. Have you tried that?

Just got my 5k. Looks amazing, but oddly after any reboot while I keep it plugged in the MacBook doesn't detect the display again until I unplug / replug it in. Anyone else experiencing that?

Congrats!

Which Macbook do you have? 13" or 15? How's performance in basic things like browser animations, launchpad animation, etc?

15", top end. So far they're A+; just opened 20 finder windows, Safari, Tweetbot, Xcode, and a few others then did mission control to show all windows doesn't miss a frame. Never use launchpad, so I forgot how to trigger it, but just tried it and it was smooth.

That's a common issue. I have the lG 4K and it has sleep-wake issues, too. Quite a few threads on this.

Yeah, I saw the sleep / wake issues, wasn't sure if that extended to restarts too. Oh well, hopefully they'll give it a good firmware update.

any chance you could put a demo video up?

Welp... FedEx guy left a bit ago and I got my 5K all hooked up to my 2016 TB 13" model and working.

I think maybe I have a bad cable. It works fine, but if you even so much as breath on the cable on the monitor end, the connection drops. I was attaching a drive to the USB-C port, and barely touched the main USB-C cable and the connection dropped, then came back. I think I'll call LG for a new cable.

I have done several reboots and sleep/wake tests and on one of the reboot tests the monitor was not detected. Maybe related to the wonky cable?

I see no lag at all in Launchpad or Mission Control or any other usage. The quality of text on web pages is really impressive. It reminds me of the jump from my old MacBook Air to my previous rMBP.

One surprising test I did though. I have a Samsung EVO 850 SSD in this Inatech USB3 enclosure I use for CCC clones. With the drive attached directly to the MBP, using Blackmagic, I get 390W/400R. The same test with the drive attached to a USB-C port on the LG I get 240W/320R. So the predictions that the TB3 bus would be saturated and drop these ports to USB2 speeds were incorrect. It is a little slower than the direct connection to the MacBook, but around 4X faster than the theoretical 60MBps speeds of USB2.

Facetime video test seems okay. The speakers are just okay... not great. Obviously, for music one would want some nice external speakers, but for my purposes the speakers are fine. I'd say the sound quality is a little worse than my Apple Thunderbolt Display, but not by a lot.

Any other tests anybody would like me to try, please let me know.

Have you pushed the connector all the way in? I noticed that on my usb-c to usb adapter I hadn't pushed it all the way and thought it was broke!

When I use FaceTime all I get is a black screen!! lol

No lag with your 13"? That's great to hear.
Wonder why the other 13" person has terrible lag.

Which ports did you connect the monitor to, left or right side? If you used right side try left, results may be faster.

Thanks for the report!

Yep... I double checked and it is definitely all the way in. I can grab the cable and give it a wiggle and the screen blanks out.

I am connected to the left side. I had seen the earlier reports that left is faster, so went straight for the left port. :)

I think maybe the lag is related to the cable issue. I notice when I wiggle the cable and it blanks out, things get laggy... even sweeping the mouse cursor across the screen stutters. If I reboot after getting a good connection, the lag is gone.

Anyone noticing light bleed? I'm not sure what an acceptable level is.

This is a pic I just took after getting mine today. It's just a black photo full screen at full brightness. The upper left corner and two spots on the middle right at the bottom edge stick out.

Edge lit displays aren't perfect, but I'm wondering if I should swap it out. I'm really happy with it unless I'm looking at something that's dark on the edges.

Just my .02

I have a ntMBP hooked up to the 5k LG. Love it! I had a 5k iMac and the mbp for meetings / travel but felt bad to have the two capable computers. Received the LG today and am truly satisfied with performance and for some reason , the panel in the LG seems better than the iMac. (maybe the "new" placebo)

Let me know if you have any questions.

You inspired me to open up my USB-c to disk adapter cables :D

Will report back with spends (I have two to test)

Which photo did you use? I am not seeing that here, I get a pure black screen.

Try this:

Interesting. Maybe it's something wrong with the link. It works for me. It's just a picture of the screen taken from my iPhone 7 showing the light bleed. I'll just upload it in the post.

Sorry I meant that I can see your image but don't see anything like that on my monitor... can you try the image I linked to and see if you get the same result?

Or can you upload the image you was looking at at the time you took the photo?

Interesting. It was pure black. I'm not home at the moment, but I saw it while watching a video that was dark around the edges, it's noticeable at all times any time something dark is on the screen.

I actually have another one I was going to return for a long reason I don't want to type that's new in the box, maybe I will test that out tonight and send this one back instead.

Hey all, I've been posting a few related threads if you're interested (they are all also linked to in the first post of this thread, which is sort of like the homepage/master thread haha).

Here are the ones I've started so far:

  1. What were you using to watch it?
  2. Take a screen grab and upload it for us to try.
  3. Try the one I posted.

There are different reasons why blacks appear differently, it's actually good that you don't get the deep deep blacks while watching films because these are usually an 'artificial' trick that the drivers use to make (what they think is black) to show as deep a black as possible.

I'll try it but I just went on google and got a pure black picture. I also noticed it on YouTube and with a video on VLC. I'll see how the other monitor does tonight. Sucks I gotta unbox and set it up but a small price to pay.

hooked up mine. picture looks amazing. no other issues except sleep wake. wake my MBP from sleep both screen go black I had to restart my MBP.

Got mine today! Both hooked up and gorgeous. I know I may be in the minority here, but I really like the look--the monitor "fades" into the background and actually makes my Thunderbolt display seem a bit dated. They are much nicer in person than I expected.
