I find Face ID even better on the iPad than the iPhone, especially when using the keyboard, just double tap the keyboard and you're in. Like others, I actually upgraded to pass down my 10.5 to my kids, so had an "excuse" but would have created an excuse either way. New design is really nice as well. Think it is overall just better, but is it worth upgrading, depends on the user.

Thanks that’s a really useful tip, double tap on keyboard and iPad gets unlocked via Face ID :)

Not looking for annual salaries...won the lotto....elitist....just good compelling reasons why you dropped the cash.
Well, I upgraded from the 10.5 to the 11 for performance reasons. Specifically graphic performance. I use some apps to read digital magazines, and feel that the pages take too long to show on the current 10.5". The app loads the page in a pixelated mess, and then it sharpens. It takes about 2 or 3 seconds to sharpen, which is annoying with as how fast these devices are supposed to be. I am hoping for it to load in 1 to 2 seconds on the new model. It is funny, in that every iPad upgrade I have made since the iPad 2 was for this same reason, and it is gotten slowly better. :) Also, I like the idea of the better Apple Pencil. The original was annoying having to charge it by plugging it into the bottom of the iPad Pro. My new 11 should be here in a few days, and I will give it a whirl.

I justify it by giving my 10.5 to my daughter-in-law. I gave my original pro to my son, she had the IPad Air from before that, it is her turn. I like to play with new tech, and my family benefits from my upgrades.

This sounds like me. My Verizon now has 5 iPads and two phone among family members all handed down from me.

I gave my 10.5 to my son and bought my other son a used 10.5 ... now they are good for a few years while I typically upgrade anyway ... but it’s a substantial difference between the 2 in weight, feel and screen ... I’m very happy with my decision. I tried to go 12.9 but it was just ever so slightly too big/heavy from a balance standpoint ... 11 really is great, 12 might be Perfect, bu 11 great ...

Sold 10.5 for $600, bought 11 for $799. I spent the extra $200 on the new design, Face ID, and A12X. Worth the money for me.
This was my plan but then after tax....apple care and case it more like an additional $400 and not $200. Its not that i dont have the money....i just feel like im just buying into the marketing.

I use my iPad mostly to write (academic, literature). (I don’t have a computer.) So the new keyboard case was enough to convince me, tbh. I hated the old one and the fact that I had to slip the iPad and keyboard into a sleeve every time I want to carry it outside. That said, I also am planning to use this iPad for the next couple years while I move. So the upgrade was worth it, a hundred percent.

Traded in a LTE Mini 4 and a WiFi 10.5” Pro for a 11” Pro with LTE. Mainly for the better keyboard case, new design, new pencil, more performance, more storage, and most of all Face ID. I use 1Password for everything so Face ID is very useful, reaching my thumb to do Touch ID felt weird after having Face ID on my phones for about a year. I also need the new iPad for testing and development of my iPad apps.

I rely on my iPad for three things:
- Textbooks for university
- Handwritten notes for university
- Handwritten notes for work (I work in an office)

The Apple Pencil on the 10.5 was great, but the new one is the one Apple should have created first. Charging the original Apple Pencil was annoying (it couldn’t charge in my backpack for example).

The new Apple Pencil, USB-C, Face ID, the lack of home button and eSIM all together made me switch. My home is 95% all USB-C including my chargers and now all that’s remaining is my iPhone.
eSIM is also great for travelling and well, its the future.

I went from a 10.5 with cellular to a 12.9 with cellular. (Still waiting for it) Why, because I manage the cellular account for my employer and I can upgrade my devices every year and they pay for it!

I’m a very big proponent of handwritten notes. I just tend to remember things better when I write them. I was disappointed at my last meeting on Friday because there was nothing worth writing down and I wanted to use my new Pencil more!

I honestly love FaceID and the lack of bezels. I typically use my iPad as a pure content device for email, Safari, music, movies.

I don’t notice the faster chip at all, but love the look and feel of the device.

I didn’t want FaceID at first, but I love it now. Makes everything so much easier. I just wish the screen was a higher resolution. I sometimes hold the device a little closer than normal and can def see the pixels.
Yes. The main reason for me was faceid. And lack of bezels. That said. This will be the last of the new products for me for a while. I can’t think of any reason to upgrade my phone I bought this year. Or new iPad. And the idea of having the newest version every year doesn’t excite me any longer.

Gotta love how Apple hypnotizes people into thinking there are no bezels when there's a big black border on all four sides.

- 11’ is beter than 10.5’ for reading and browsing
- faster
- more beatiful, with smaller bezels, and a mackbook look.
- Better Pencil for noting
- i like the gestures of a homebuttonless device, like my iPhone X.
- because I can afford without financial effort

You do realize that the bezels on the new iPad on the side is even bigger than it was on the 10.5 inch iPad? Apple has really manipulated you into thinking this has no bezel and it really is some edge to edge display

Yes it’s true.
This is not a bezeless device. This is a device with thin and equal size bezels all around, that gets a much balance and beautiful efect.
