Why do people like you post on a pro-apple (and ipad) blog or forum? I am sure in your minds it's a free country and you are allowed your counter view. Yeah, but this is a Apple Fan Boy board...it's like running into a crowded theatre and yelling "FIRE!" (or poking a hornets nest...you pick the visual allegory). By definition you are a troll.
The "it's nothing new" diatribe is YOUR opinion (or a tech writer's opinion). It's not relevant to everyone. If you are so disgusted with Apple's offering then, please, don't buy it. The idea of you whining about what it isn't and what you can't get it to do is too much to listen to. I would suggest going to Fusion Garage, Notion Ink, or DO Magic's website and blogging how you think their units are not 'ground breaking'. By the way, what is your definition of 'ground breaking' ? I am sure that you wanted it to be powered by anti-matter, have a voice and LCARS interface (like your favorite show ST:TNG), and the ability to make you look incredibly sexy on Match.com.
To me, it's exactly what I have been waiting on. Something less than a notebook but more than a Touch...and no, it's not a big touch no matter how much you want it to be. The hardware (A4) is new...ergo...it is NOT a touch. It may 'look' like a big touch...but looks alone do not define a product. As has been pointed out time and time again to you 'glass-half-empty' people. The iPad is NOT a laptop, desktop, or phone and is not meant to replace them. It is not a kindle. It is not an iPod. What it is for is media consumption...whether digital music, movies, or books. It is also for consumption from the internet...news, video, email...etc. I am still undecided on no-flash support...but never had many problems using iPhone for my emergency searches. Who knows how that will play out? Maybe HTML5 will be the one to rule them all or Steve-O will let Flash be implemented as "and one more thing" feature.

The 'closed ecosystem' of iTunes is not a minus for me. Yes, they are eleventy-million PC programs out there..who cares? The ability for an 'ala carte' experience is actually enjoyable for most people. Since the iPad is also a 'closed system', I am sure you're upset you can't substitute .2ms memory chips or pull out the clock chip and hook it up to your desktop to overclock it...<sigh>. Ok..listen..."ThIs Iz NoT 4 Ur KiNd oF GeEkS". Most people don't want to open the hood of their car. They want to turn it on, do what they want, and go do something else. These people probably represent 70% of the consumers. They buy at Walmart or Bestbuy and when they buy online at Amazon or Buy.com they buy brand name equipment. They just, as Scott Forestall said, "want it to work". Ok?
All I do know, is that your contributions smack of derision and criticisms but never address why you are so critical. I am sure your list of demands, once posted, will either be so PC-centric as to have been lifted from one of the vaporware tablets that are 'coming soon', or will be so unobtainable that no one short of the skunk works at Northrop Grumman could build the thing.
On that note...I can't freaking wait till Saturday. Viva La Revolution!
