But why ship a standalone accessory before the watch that comes with it? It doesn't make any sense, whether they announced it beforehand or not.

Because people who took the time to bother reading Apple's clearly announced shipping estimates got their Watches ages ago. And the clever ones who wanted the steel link band asap to go with it are now having their orders prepare for shipment.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps the bands are coming from somewhere else not near the factory for the Apple Watch, so they standalone bands are just boxed where they are made and shipped out, while the ones bundled with the watch are being sent to a different facility for boxing and shipping.

No offense to you, but this is what I don't get.

They are shipping your accessory link bracelet before using those bracelets to assemble the whole Watch models ordered by people at :01-:15, which seems extremely unfair.

No offense taken. I understand how that would feel for sure! Hard to know the particulars of their distribution system. To be complete, I ordered the link bracelet at :16 because the delivery time on the watch plus link was long when I signed in. I then took the time to decide how to proceed. I ordered a SS with black sport band at :07 with a shorter delivery time. Then ordered the accessory link band at :16. I got the watch last Friday which was in the middle of delivery window. Looks like I will get the link band in next day or two, which is in the middle of the window I got for that too.

As a result, Apple got more money out of me, but I probably would have gotten a sport band anyway for exercise. The sport band is really very nice too though.

What makes sense is that there was an estimated delivery date of the 29th-8th and it was fair game for everyone who ordered a watch with the Link Band or not. People are just entitled. We've already waited this long for our watches, Whats another week really?! As someone who did order the Watch + Link I feel nothing against this. Thats just the way the world works.

Ok, you missed my point completely. I'll be concise this time. Why didn't the full link + watch orders get first priority?

Finally, a rational post. Makes sense.

They're not the same product! They had different Shipping dates! Now maybe they should have had the Watch + Link Bracelet ship on the 29th - 8th or whatever the closest range was. Its not that its getting priority, that was just the dates apple chose.

Im in the same boat. I was going to order the SS WSB + Link Bracelet, but I felt that they would have shipped full link + watch orders first.

I guessed wrong.

My 0.02 is that because of the lead times on the links, Apple probably started production of these watches FIRST. Then, they probably scrapped a TON of them (taptic engine) going into the launch, hence the later window from the get go.

These factors all are beyond a laymen to comprehend, but being from a manufacturing background, I would start on the products that take the longest, first, and then take on the quickest products last.

I know it makes no sense, because the SS bodies are all the same, but remember that they also got flooded with orders across the board.. My bet is that the SS + Links got scrapped en-masse.

TL;DR - They scrapped a bunch of SS Link models and thats why we got a delayed launch date from the get go.

There are too many crybabies on this forum. Why the link bracelet ordered separately will arrive earlier than the link bracelet watches is beside the point. All of you (who wanted the standard SS link bracelet) had the choice of a May 13-May 27 delivery for the link bracelet watch or a April 29-May 12 delivery for the link bracelet itself plus a different easier to obtain SS model at the time of the pre-order. You made your choice when you placed the order.

I personally ordered the link bracelet watch fully aware of the 4-6 week delivery and guess what, I'm not complaining as I'm a grown adult.

He ordered a Space Black, so that wouldn't have possible for him anyway. People are just trying to figure out the discrepancy. No one's asking if they had the same shipping date. Please bother to read the post next time.

Guys, chill out. I'm sure they are preparing the link watches as we speak. You need to remember that with the bands, once they are made, they just need to be boxed up and shipped off.

For the actual watches they need to enter the main production line, be added to the watches, the watches will need to undergo QC in batches, and then get packed up and shipped off. These extra few steps will be what is causing the delay. Probably only by 2-3 days.

They probably made say 100,000 link bands all at once, but 60,000 of them are just needing to be boxed up. They went through their own QC when they were made. The other 40,000 need the additional steps in the production line then further QC of the entire assembled product. Even though the band has probably already passed a previous QC step at the band manufacturers facility, the entire assembled unit will still need its own QC.

Keep patient for a few more days. Everything they have done up until now has made sense (to me at least) regarding the link bands. They are just trying to be as efficient as possible when it comes to getting out the watch product as a whole, not focussing on individual models. ;)

This is the most likely explanation.

I thought it was fairly clever. I hardly seen anyone else take the same approach as me.

Whether they're the clever ones is open to interpretation. Those who got AC+ won't be the clever ones (and will be out another cool $449) if their separately purchased link bracelet gets crushed or something, as AC+ only covers the original out of the box band.
