Hello

I was wondering what your thoughts and suggestions are regarding the 2 newly announced accessories to write during a meeting.
So far I was relying on Livescribe Sky with Wifi connection to Evernote. It was handy to write during a meeting but it took some administrative work to rename and regroup the pages sent to Evernote.
So I was very happy when yesterday the announcement of Livescribe 3 was done which seems to be much more integrated in the iOS workflow.

But then I saw today the new promotion video of the Adonit Jot Script Evernote Edition which makes me now more curious if you believe that it would be possible to write in a one-to-one meeting with a customer directly on the iPad.

In the past I experimented already with different styli and different handwriting apps but at the end I always was unhappy because my attention was on writing on the iPad and no longer listening to the client. So the Livescribe Sky was a good way to take notes but not the best in administration.

What is your preferred way to take notes during a face to face meeting with a customer? I normally write approx 1 page during a meeting of 60-90 minutes.

Has anybody already bought the new Adonit Jot Script Evernote Edition?

Cheers and many thanks in advance for your ideas/comments/suggestions

Michael

Like you, I am very interested in these two items. I like the idea of the Adonit but have not been very satisfied with writing directly on the iPad. I have never used a Livescribe product mainly because I did not think I would like the size of the pen but the Livescribe 3 looks more in line with a normal size pen and I like that it is tied in with ios. Do you know if you can write your notes and sync it to the iPad later or do you have to have the iPad close to you in order for it to work. I know you do for the audio recordings but not certain for the hand written notes.

Thanks

Offline writing seems possible with Livescribe 3

As far as I can see it should be possible to record the writing even no iOS device is connected. The Livescribe 3 should have 2 GB.
But you are right there is no voice recording without iOS device.

Thanks! I am thinking very hard about giving the Livescribe 3 a try.

Still a bit concerned about the pen size. How did you find writing with the other Livescribe products to be?

I preordered the Jot Script Evernote Edition Stylus. I preordered it on October 11th from the Evernote Market, it's shipping date at the time was set for October 25th. On October 25th I checked the site and it said shipping was November 11th. I now see that hey are shipping as of today. I have yet to receive any confirmation yet that my order has shipped. I am looking forward to using this stylus.

Writing with the previous two versions of Livescribe was ok. I had first the Livescribe Echo and currently the Livescribe Sky and both use the same hardware. As I was not writing an essay but only 1 page of meeting notes it was never a pain to use Livescribe stylus.

Thanks for all your input!

I ordered the Jot Script on Sept 27th and it's shipping today. I'm sure there will be some reviews available by then but I should be able to answer questions about it when it arrives next week. I'll be able to test it with an iPad 4 and an Air when it arrives.

Please keep us posted on your experience with the Jot Script.
Thanks

I noticed today that the charge was put through and is pending on my account, I am still waiting to get the shipping confirmation. But when I finally do get it I will be posting my thoughts on it. I will be using it with an iPad mini and an iPad 4.

I am already very curious to hear from so eone how the Jot Script is in real life. As I am travelling to the US next week I am wondering where one can get a Jot Script as Evernote has not yet open the Evernote market in Switzerland.
Does an Apple Store sell it?

i just received mine and it seems to be a bit wonky. he wrist support does not work at all. i am using it on the first retina iPad. when i write, the multi-tasking screen keeps getting activated and kills the next app running. the different setting for writing and wrist protection do not seem to do anything.

Try turning multitasking gestures off?

Also - and i know this is going to sound dumb, but make sure Penultimate is connecting to the stylus:

General Settings
Jot Script Evernote Stylus Setup

Once I did that - the palm rejection worked decently well for me.

I'm not liking the latest version of Penultimate though. I write an 'o' for example and it just disappears. I don't know whats going on with it. App Reviews seem to indicate I'm not the only person either.

i went through all the settings…..nothing changes.

no way i will turn off multi gestures.

so far i am quite disappointed.

That sounds really disappointing. So perhaps I stay with Livescribe. I will be interested to hear more experiences.

One important point which might me also decide for Livescribe is the workflow: during a meeting I make notes and someof the text should "automatically" end up as a task in a todo app. When I watched the Livescribe 3 video I have learned that the handwritten piece of text which is the task could be on the iPad converted into real text and then it's easier to put this into the task list.
Otherwise with the Jot Script I would need to switch in Penultimate during taking the notes from pen-entry to onscreen keyboard and back.

This seems currently more complicated to me.

What are your thoughts?

Michael

you have to turn off multi-tasking gestures in the iPad settings....not the app.

I checked the Apple store today and it did not carry the Jot Script.

When I replied to you the other day - I was using an iPad mini and my experience was definitely different than yours.

Now that I have an iPad Air - i'm getting the multi tasking screen nonstop also. Weird.

Did you turn off multi-tasking gesture in the iPad settings. The Jot Script into video even shows you exactly how to do it.

Ditto. I haven't heard any update on my preorder.

Did not see that. Using on the air today was a much more enjoyable experience.

Hopefully a fix for having to toggle the setting is in the works. Day 2 was much better.

Got my Jot Script yesterday. Love using it with Penultimate. One thing I did was to move the Penultimate tool bar to the top, and it makes it much better in terms of not pulling down the Notifications screen.

I think the biggest thing is using the Drift feature. Makes it easy to keep writing, and the thin tip is just fantastic. Good bye lame plastic disc and ugly thick nub.

What was interesting to me was the Adonit site says Jot Script only works with the iPad 3 and up. I tried it on my work iPad 2 and it worked essentially the same, other than not seeing the Jot connection menu inside Evernote. Really odd.

Two things I wish the Script had: a cap, and a clip. Seems like Adonit has an aversion to clips for some reason. I put a clip from a mechanical pencil on my old Jot Pro, and that was useful.

Unfortunately I doubt there will be a fix for that. The multitasking gestures are detected at a system level and apps can't toggle them off.

Hopefully in a future iOS version apps will be able to request to disable gestures for this purpose.

Thanks for the info. How are you finding the wrist function working? I am always resting my wrist on the iPad while writing and it keeps causing issues.
