When browsing some more articles about the Jot Script I learned that penultimate does not allow any keyboard entry. So my goal to enter the todos just with a keyboard into the hand written text does anyhow not work with this combo.

I am tempted to give Livescribe 3 a chance which should be out in the Apple Stores beginning next week.

I'm also interested in both these products. I've used Livescribe pens since the beginning - Pulse, Echo and then Wifi (Sky pen outside UK). HUGELY disappointed - no, frustrated - with the wifi pen.
Despite researching before purchase, wrongly thought the wifi pen would add wireless connectivity to the already v. good Echo. I preferred livescribe desktop app on my work pc laptop and personal MacBook pro, for organising my notes & notebooks. Wifi pen's exclusive use of Evernote only was a bad move. I DO use evernote, and it's good for what I use it for on all devices (work PC, MBP, iPad, iPhone, but Livescribe is woeful with Evernote. Searching abysmal, way, way better in Livescribe's own desktop apps.
And then there's the poor writing experience with previous livescribe pens - something that definitely appears to be addressed on the "3".
I've got BOTH on order, may keep the Adonit Jot Script purely for drawing and sketching-out notes on my iPad, whereas the Livescribe 3 pen will be for note-taking in meetings.
the other dilemma i face, is that having trialled dozens of "note-taking" apps, I've been using Beesy by BeesApps for about a year, and I have to say it's superb - using the Livescribe 3 pen would be a move away from that, so some serious contemplation to-do......

Tried out the jot script today, and I will be returning it. It has way too much lag, and too buggy. I've come to the conclusion a stylus will never beat a samsung note with the s-pen.

Don't like my jot script either. In a couple apps it is leggy but in others it is fine. My problem is it is noisy. The hard tip creates loud click/tap sounds as you pick up and set down the tip during writing. Terrible for a meeting.

Hmm, I was actually concerned about that when I first saw the demo video. I agree that would be very distracting.

Unfortunately I doubt there will be a fix for that. The multitasking gestures are detected at a system level and apps can't toggle them off.

Hopefully in a future iOS version apps will be able to request to disable gestures for this purpose.

Having an easy to access toggle is big reason why I loved having a jailbroken iPad. Hopefully an iOS7 jailbreak is coming soon...

Maybe apple will allow you to customize control center in 7.1. One can dream... :D

Picked up the Livescribe 3!

The local pen shop shop had a few of these in stock. Needless to say I was very surprised. Anyway, I grabbed one and have been playing with it. I have to say that I am pleased in the feel of the pen itself. I was worried it was going to be too big but it actually feels very nice in my hands.

I have tried it both ways- real time note taking and off line for syncing later. Both work very well. I like being able to upload to Evernote also.

I will update again after using it more over the next few days.

Cool to read you experiences with the Livescribe 3. After reading frustrating comments in the Evernote Forum about the Jot Script I am also more on the Livescribe 3. I have to check the Apple Store in Las Vegas if they have them on stock.

What is your experience with the Livescribe+ application? Does the text recognition work and what about the features to grab text fragments and use them as the input for a todo application?

I have been using Livescribe products for a while and my feeling is that

Livescribe 3 = Ordinary paper + Ordinary pen + Scan App at iPad/iPhone

I used it extensively today in an hour long meeting, came back to my desk and synced it with the iPad. Then used the Livescribe+ app to upload to Evernote my meeting notes. Also, converted a few notes to text to make a reminder and a few calendar events. This thing works perfect for what I need. I am very pleased with the pen and the app.

Decision is taken!

This sounds very promising. I will try to get tomorrow a Livescribe 3 in Las Vegas. The Apple store does not have it so I try Staples or Fry.
This decision is now taken as I read another review this morning that the Adonit Jot Script is really not performing as advertised. Of course they will become better in the next releases, but with Livescribe 3 I will also not need anymore a big iPad but it will allow me to switch my iPad4 zu a iPad Mini Retina in a few weeks.

Many thanks to all contributors to this topic!

Greatings from Las Vegas!

I believe you will enjoy!
Have fun in Vegas!

Noticed that Penultimate released an update a bit ago addressing writing issues. Downloading now. Hopefully this improves the handwriting.

Let us know ASAP please. I am hoping it turns out to be a great product. But the reviews aren't great so far. Here's Hoping the update helps.

Major improvement.

The gesture issue is fixed ( for me ). It is actually working like I wanted it to. Still a bit lagging but this update brought improvements to the lag so I am confident it will continue to improve.

Glad to see they listened to the users....

Hope everyone else has the same result.

I've tried the Jot Pro and it didn't work for me, I experienced skipping problems even after Adonit sent me replacement parts and a replacement stylus. The Jot Script looks very nice, but I have some questions about it.

I don't care about the wrist-rejection feature, pressure sensitivity, or any of those fancy features; I just want a stylus that registers on the screen and that doesn't put up too much resistance when writing. If you don't have Bluetooth on and/or if you're working in an app that doesn't support the Adonit SDK, does the stylus still work? Are there any sensitivity issues?

I've been using my Script Evernote edition for about 10 days now, and overall I am pleased. I mostly use it to take notes and track tasks on my iPad while I'm working at my computer.

I use the app Noteshelf because I like the zoom/auto-advance feature for note taking. I would love Evernote integration and cloud backup in that app, though.

The best experience for me is with multitasking off and pressure sensitivity off. Having used it for over a week I'll say that the noise doesn't bother me at all even though I did notice it at first. I doubt it would be loud enough to bother others in a meeting.

I did try to take notes in a meeting, but switched to paper. I'm just not fast enough with the stylus - although I think that will change as I spend more time with the stylus and the apps, and as the apps get better.

For me, it's as good an experience as the Samsung Note 10.1. I like the hand feel of the Script far and away better than the tiny Samsung Stylus. Quality and speed of input is about the same for me, when using the Noteshelf app.

My advice is if you have the Script or plan to get it, give it a little time, and try out the handful of available apps to find the one that best fits your needs.

Hey guys,
Do either of these allow annotation on PDFs?
I had (still have) the LiveScribe Echo, but I couldn't annotate lecture slides and stopped using it. I tried using note taking apps on the iPad, but it kept deleting things when I went between typing and drawing (for mathematics & formula).

+1 to KandyKane's question.

How are either when it comes to annotating PDF's or taking notes on slides.

Really interested in the Air, but the majority of my usage will be taking notes and annotating.. so I may be forced towards the note 10.1

The LiveScribe is a standalone accessory that doesn't interact with the iPad in any way, it just syncs finished material over.

The Jot Script is a Bluetooth enabled active capacitive stylus. It uses battery power to create an active stylus tip that enables the tip itself to be smaller than when you have a passive capacitive stylus. That functionality is "dumb" in that it has nothing to do with the Bluetooth connectivity. It does however also use Bluetooth to send additional information to the iPad, which for instance can be used for palm rejection.

Being in essence just a normal stylus, the Jot Script, and 500 other styli on the market, can be used to annotate PDF files. However you absolutely don't need a stylus that expensive to do that. I'm a teacher and current use a Wacom Bamboo Duo stylus to annotate PDF files in either Goodreader or GoodNotes on an iPad mini 2, and just got my shipping confirmation for a Script today. Due to the massive amount of handwriting I do on the iPad it's worth the risk to see if the Script is any good, but for anyone who's not even tried PDF annotation on the iPad yet, I'd start off with a cheaper stylus to try, at least until proper Script reviews are out.

There is also quite a bit of misinformation going around about the accuracy of capacitive styli VS active pens on Samsung's Note series. In a direct comparison, the Note series' pens are indeed more accurate than capacitive styli. What many fail to realize is that because the iPad doesn't have that technology, and because the iPad software market is so massive, there are countless note taking and annotation tools out there that used special zoom modes that magnify part of the screen, allowing you to write large letters in a box and have it shrunk down for you. This is a feature you won't find in many (practically no) Android apps. You need to get used to this way of writing, but once you do, you can actually write more accurately that way than with a Note pen. I grade papers and often write comments in between lines in documents with font size 12 and line spacing 1.5, and the zoom box writing makes it possible to do that while still seeing the entire document on screen. The same thing is not possible with a Note device.

Please write back with your thoughts on the Script after it arrives and you've had the chance to use it for a while, particularly compared with the "fat-tip" styluses like your Bamboo Duo. I'm very interested in the Script but got burned with the Jot Pro, and don't want to spend so much on another stylus that doesn't work reliably.

Just wanted to share my experience that I've had this weekend trying the note-taking again on the iPad after abandoning it a couple years ago when the market was not quite ready. I purchased the Adonit Jot Touch 4 and have been trying it with a whole bunch of the note-taking apps that I had purchased before, along with a few new ones. In general, the experience was ok, but not great until I tried it with GoodNotes. In other apps like Penultimate, Noteshelf, NoteTaker HD, Noterize, Notes Plus, and Paper I found varying levels of success, but nothing that approached the convenience of writing on paper. Too many stray marks, or being limited to only using the zoom mode, etc.

I finally tried the free version of GoodNotes and this is an app that has some potential. It pairs with the stylus, has some level of pressure sensitivity, you can program the buttons, and the palm rejection works nearly flawlessly. I can actually write as if I'm on a full sheet of paper with no zoom and it is legible and barely slows me down vs. paper. The zoom mode works exceptionally well if I want to write even smaller and neater.

I chose the Touch 4 over the Jot Script because of the long lead time on the Script, and the limited app compatibility at this time. The feel is great. Keeping track of the disc will be a challenge. I wish the pen had a clip both to keep it on my case, and to prevent the pen from rolling on the floor! Otherwise it looks like it's a keeper if I don't run into any issues!

Got my Jot Script today. Haven't had time to play with it properly yet, but first impressions are not good
