Adhell or Package Disabler. It allowed me to totally disable the Bixby button.

Does this allow one to uninstall bloatware? That's more what I was referring to. Not as concerned with the Bixby butting (though rerouting would be nice)

yeah it seems that way. I keep forgetting MacRumors is not XDA :) Now there's SamSheep.

To me I think it's a national tragedy, and there should be a day or morn over the loss of unlocked bootloaders like back in the day. The S8+ running Lineage ROM 15.0 would be a nerds wet dream.

One of my fav all time phones was my ATT Galaxy Note II back like 5 years ago. I rooted that beast within the first hour, and installed a custom ROM the next day. That phone had so much development it was crazy. Tons of stock Touchwiz type ROM's, and tons of AOSP ROM's. And most of the good ROM's were rock solid stable, but the best thing was, they squeezed out every ounce of battery life, my ROM'd Note II was giving me 8hr Screen On time. And the phone was crazy fast too with all the tweaks.

Back then you could root and ROM any Samsung carrier phone. And it wasn't a rocket science to do it, was almost as simple as a Nexus phone.

Oh I miss those days.
I'm with you. :)

Before iPhone I came from Windows Mobile. I have an account on XDA and I used it to get my old HTC Touch Pro running SenseUI 2.1 w/Weather. All done with CAB files, mind you - no ROMs.

The Touch Pro was only supposed to be running TouchFlo 3D so the fact that I got SenseUI running on it at all was a feat I think. But 2.1 was as far as I could go because I only had WinMo 6.1 Pro and anything else needed WinMo 6.5.

I wil be returning to XDA again since I plan to upgrade to Android. But in between, there was jailbreaking of my iPhones.

So, again - I'm with you. ;)

My Exynos S6E is running resurrection remix with the Pixel launcher and Pico GAAPS it's in essence a v.1 Pixel with smaller bezels. The issue was all the drama to get it unlocked and the limited ROM's after running a Samsung based ROM for the last six weeks it's nice to be back to an AOSP based ROM with no Samsung around anywhere.

Ah, the good old days of changing a ton of registry lines on a small mobile display. :p

Speaking of ROM flashing dying and fading away on flagships phones last few years. Same with the Jailbreak scene now. The iPhone 7 under iOS 10 had like one half assed JB released, and only if were you lucky enough to be a very specific iOS 10.1.1, but the stable version came out way later when like iOS 10.3.1 was out LOL

I would take an iPhone 8 Plus with a stable untethered JB in a heartbeat, or a Galaxy S8+ that can be rooted and ROM'd with AOSP.

*** off carriers and manufactures for stopping the fun :( I would say from like 2008 to like 2015 was the heyday of flashing fresh ROM's and JB'ing your iPhone, then it all came to a screatching halt it seems couple years ago.

Wow! I actually never did that and it's not until today I realized you could.

Things might have worked out a bit differently (better) for me had I known. :)

Yea, even some .cab files automated registry changes, but plenty of things had to be changed manually. Now if only I can remember exactly what I was doing it for. I'm getting old.

Some of them you can uninstall and others can be disabled and you never have to see them.

*Samsung have just released an update that allows you to turn bixby off.
*Samsung PASS is fantastic. Works a treat in allowing apps to use FP for authentication. Its a samsung app so perhaps you missed in set up? You can download it from the galaxy store. The Samsung browser has FP authentication
*Evie is excellent. Nova is a std go-to which will allow you to remove the search bar.

How do I get that update? Disable it? Or re-assign?
Will check out SPass ..not interested in the Samsung browser, should I be? Chrome user with synced bookmarks/passwords/credit cards etc..
Does Nova have the super fast search like Evie? If so I might go back and skin it to look like Evie for best of both worlds

Any apps in particular? I've found all of my financial apps use my fingerprint unlock (on my Nexus), as does my password manager which auto-fills passwords in apps so that takes care of the rest anyway...

LastPass and UK HSBC app are two that I've found so far
[doublepost=1505762358][/doublepost]..also a plea for Samsung.

PLEASE don't follow apple and ditch the fingerprint. Do what Apple users really want and get it under the screen for S9!! After using this thing for a few days now, SW glitches aside, the hardware is near perfect IMO. Mute switch would be nice addition too.

Edit .. scratch that, bxActions allows me to map the button to act as a mute switch. Love this thing!!

Are you referring to Android or iOS here?
Personal or Business banking?
I don't fingerprint login on my Android HSBC Personal Banking app

Android. Personal banking. iOS lets me use TouchID to login.
[doublepost=1505766418][/doublepost]Anyone know if it's possible to show the current sound setting (silent/vibrate/normal) on the always on screen?

Ah, ok so you would like fingerprint support for these apps on Android but don't have it yet. Yes, lack of it in the HSBC app is frustrating. But according to Google Play it is available in the Android Lastpass app.

I use a number of Android appps with Fingerprint support, such as 1Password and several finance apps. But fingerprint support does seem to get introduced a bit later in Android apps than iOS apps. Aside from HSBC, Authy is another example of an app I use which has iOS TouchID support, but not Android fingerprint support.

Thanks, didn't see LastPass could do that in the settings, enabled!

I actually like Samsung's mobile browser a lot. You can sync it with Chrome bookmarks and install ad block straight to the browser. It also has a scroll straight to top function and is actually really smooth.

For whatever reason the folks developing Android apps have chosen not to plug this into their apps. I don't get it. Android has supported a native fingerprint API (not manufacturer specific) since 2015 when the 6p and 5x came out but adoption of it has been a slow burn. I'm not a developer but it can't be THAT hard to enable support for the needed API level and add the option.

Name one app that Samsung does better than Google ? And no S-Pen stuff, because obviously stock Android doesn't do that.

To be honest I despise Touchwiz, Lagwiz, or Grace UI, whatever they call it today, it's still a super bloated OS. Look in Developer Options, under "Running Apps" holy cow Batman there's like ten million apps running in the background on a Galaxy phone. Do they same on a Pixel, and it may be a dozen or so. On my Nexus 6P I have 9 services running in the background. Point being, when there's like 20+ services running in the background that contributes to micro stutter and slight lag.

I owned the S8+ for a week, and FACT it still lags and stutters, sure it's minor and only does so very little for a split second here and there, but it's there. Sure it's way better than horrid S4 days, but it's still there. My Nexus 6P, ZERO lag, warp speed smooth.

Read the S8 forums, now that the been out for almost siz months, there's plenty of posts about lag getting worse as the months pass by with the S8. Not making that up
I thought so many apps running in the background was normal for Android. You mean it's not?

Might've been hasty in ditching the Samsung apps, they're pretty nice it seems and most have the 'pop to top' icon which is a bonus.

Question re: samsung email app .. in settings for some account types (e.g. outlook) there's a 'sync task' option. What app does that sync to? I don't see a samsung task app? Calendars / contacts sync great it seems.

Cheers!

The Samsung browser is massively underrated. Its the best mobile browser by a long shot. I love Android but Chrome is a rubbish browser on both Android and OSX.

The Calendar app has a tasks view (at least mine does). So presumably to that?

I'm a bit uncertain, because I haven't used this app in a while. However there was a time when it was my preferred calendar app for Android. I like that it provides event details in month view and is able to colour code different Exchange calendars from a single account. These are things Google calendar was unable to do at the time, and might still be unable to do.

That's the one! Shame it's a 2 step to get into it and set a quick task though although the widget helps.

..my list of complaints is shrinking

Anyone know how to accept a meeting (Outlook) invite in the Samsung email app? I get an email with an attached .vcs file which I open and it pops up in the calendar app. There's an option to add it to the calendar but no option to actually accept the request so although it shows in my calendar the meeting organiser never sees that I've accepted which sort of defeats the object.

Outlook app behaves a little differently, I get the option to accept via the RSVP button, but the organiser still never gets an update to say I did so.

These are meeting invites sent to my icloud email so perhaps that's part of it, will keep testing.

It's buried in the account settings, I'll get a screenshot later.

..is there a way to add a shortcut to the Samsung screenshotting app without using the edge bar?
