Not many retired people would be spending $2-$3k on a iPad pro
One I know uses a iPad 5
Don’t worry about it, I can well afford it. And it wasn’t $2-$3k.

As a former Book user, I cannot express how sad and mad that the fact that setups like this have succeeded where the Book was ignored makes meIt’s a mainstay in my workflow but I do agree. View attachment 2479661View attachment 2479662View attachment 2479663
Sure the base iPad can do almost everything the Pro can do. But, the pro does it better.

Outside of tech enthusiasts, the iPad pros mass market appeal is arguably as niche as the Vision Pro. That is probably Apple should look at and maybe reevaluate iPadOS capabilities.
I misread your post initially! Agreed…my 14 inch M3 Pro MBP and an M1 Ultra Mac Studio are almost exclusively my production devices. However, the iPad is my most used Apple device….but primarily a consumption device.… (and let's face it, as production Apple devices they're hardly your default goto especially if you already have M4 MBP's) I have to say my regular iPads have notably better endurance.
You were the one that made the claim about the 12.9" being the most popular model. Cite your data sources. Is it? Or it's rather a bunch of crap when people makes statements like yours with no data to back it up, while mine was based on statistcs.... Look them for yourself and you'll find them...
depends if you retired comfortably or not doesn’t it.Not many retired people would be spending $2-$3k on a iPad pro

Well fine I withdraw my comment. Functionality wise the iPad Pro feels niche because it hits a wall regardless due to iPadOS design. Pushing you to a Mac the second a website doesn’t wanna load correctly because you’re on a iPad. Vision OS has the same issue where there using an iOS base and not MacOS so it’s got the same handicaps with web applications. If this data is correct, the Pro models accounted for 43% of iPad sales in 2024, hardly a niche -

Sold my 11" M4 256gb cellular today, bought it new half price for $1kAUD, sold for $1500.
Got out while still some profit in it.
Not worth anywhere near retail price imo

I got a Surface pro 11 and indeed the battery life is similar to my iPad pro and so is the heat. But it's heavier. Fortunately Microsoft is heavily rumored to be coming with a smaller version of the pro, an 11" pro with Snapdragon which should compete with the 11" iPad pro. While it might be a bit heavier than the 11" iPad it might solve the weight issue of the 13". Sure, many don't want Windows in a tablet. I do. I wouldn't want MacOS. But Windows, absolutely. Still my iPad won't be replaced completely, but this could become my most versitile device, especially with 5G.That's basically how I feel about the Pro lineup as well where I can't justify the price given the limitations in that regard among a few other things. We're all different, and I've settled on a Mini 7 for the time being. For my larger screen sized device I went with a Surface Pro 9 a couple of years ago and am "ok" with it in some respects but still have some wishes (weight reduction and battery life). The latest Qualcomm processor based Surface Pros solve the battery life problem but potentially bring compatibility issues (though I doubt it would affect me) and I'm really not looking forward to the AI stuff that's coming with MS's Copilot+ PCs. I've come to accept that ultimately regardless of platform there's going to be some compromises somewhere.
Quite a few 11" M4 iPPs on my local FB Marketplace
People seem to be taking a bath on them
Definitely a good item to buy "lightly preowned" and save several hundred dollars

Not sure what to do now after selling my 11" M4.
I have a 3.5 year old M1 24" iMac in my home/office, am thinking about getting a base model 14" mbp and forgetting iPads.Sounds like the M4 may be overkill for your needs and maybe grab a slightly-used or refurb Air? I really wish Apple had a build-your-own option where you could select display size, display type, memory size (RAM & general storage), etc., like laptops. But they force you into premium prices when you may just want one particular feature.
