Count me amongst those sad at the loss. I do believe it was a mistake on Apple part.

I really don't know what else to say. Spacebar only is lame!!!

It's consistent across all iOS devices and that makes it more discoverable, since more people will at some point hold an icon on the home screen longer and see that a context menu appears.

Sure, but another solution would have been to put 3D Touch on all ios devices. There’s nothing inherently more discoverable about haptic touch.

Yes, this would be nice. We just don't know why this didn't happen though. We don't know if Apple had technical issues bringing 3D Touch into bigger screens.

I’m probably in the minority on this but I never liked or used 3D Touch. So the haptic is fine for me. Especially if it’s a trade off for battery.

Well no one is going to get 3D Touch from any other manufacturer - so haptic touch is still the closest thing (that works as it should).

You can’t speed up Haptic Touch much because then it ceases to become a “long press”

3D Touch is kind of like Apple Scripts for Mac. Only a few power users knew how to use it. If Apple had killed Apple Scripts no one would have really cared outside of that niche.

One of my favorite features of 3D was the ability to select print with a PDF and then select pages and email the selected portions of the document. That feature does not appear to work now - does anyone know a workaround? Thanks!

All I can say is, give Haptic Touch a shot.
I love 3D Touch and used it every day, and in fact was thinking of getting the XS Max instead of the 11Pro Max. but I can see why Apple decided to discontinue it. It frees up some space and makes the display cheaper to manufacture, while keeping things streamlined between iOS/iPadOS products.

I liked and used 3D touch a lot but it only took a day or so to get used to Haptic touch.

it has more or less all the same functionality at 3D, you just have to press the screen differently.

I simply miss it because of the keyboard cursor. Having to hold the space bar doesn’t leave a lot of room if you need to move downward right away. Also, adding a bit more pressure to highlight text was fantastic. This was my only reason for 3D Touch. Will I miss it? Yep. Will I get used to it be being gone? Yep.

I can still press anywhere on my keyboard and move the cursor? How come some of you can’t?

If removing it allows for the return of Touch ID next year, then I guess I can reluctantly let it go, but it was definitely an innovative and unique iPhone feature I'll miss using.

It gave us 4-5 more hours of battery life
I don't understand how these two things have become linked here; because the display assembly might be 0.05mm thinner? So really if anything making the phone 0.4mm thicker overall is what gives you 4-5h extra battery life.

That functionality is retained for all models with pressure sensitive displays. It wasn't there in beta 1, but Apple added it back in (they said it was a 'bug' but I think they did a U turn after a backlash for removing functionality unnecessarily).

I used 3D Touch all the time. I miss being able to highlight text one-handed and the long press is not as quick, but I’ll get used to it. I prefer having a phone battery that I absolutely cannot kill even with my heaviest usage.

Watch a tear down. The battery is noticeably thicker

3D Touch functions in iOS 13 are so deprecated that you are not gonna make any use of it on XS and older. This is absolute jerk move by Apple. I bought my phone with 3D Touch, not without it. I feel scammed.
What functions are not carried over into ios 13 that significantly degrade the use of 3DT hardware?

I get that, but it seems to me that making the phone thicker overall is what facilitated that (mostly) - it wasn't a dichotomy between 3D touch and better battery life, both could have coexisted in the phones. Therefore it seems wrong to me to say that '[the loss of 3D touch] gave us 4-5h better battery life'.

This. Apple has not stated the increase in battery life is attributable to cutting out the the 3D Touch sensor layer. This is an assumption and as stated they made the phone thicker anyways. Sure some of the battery gain may be attributable but what if it’s 30 minutes and not the stated 4 hours. Does that justify it? What we do know is the 3D Touch layer is a costly part. Makes sense in the already expensive iPhone world where they added a camera on the pro and other tech but felt the pressure to keep prices the same, that 3D Touch got cut.
