Coming from an iPP 10.5” (felt it was time with a trade-in while I can), and having some of those general impression; screen seems noticeably larger (even if it is only .5” difference), typing on screen is better, getting use to Face ID, no lag at all, sound is good, and screen is basically what I thought it would be. About the screen, it seems not quite as bright and warmer compared side by side to my 10.5” (brightness highest, and true tone settings equal). Still working on organizing and setting APPs up, have the plain Apple Smart Folio which lets me squeeze it all in the old Apple 10.5” leather sleeve, and a new Apple Pencil 2, also if needed the external magic keyboard if I'm really doing serious typing.

If it's in landscape orientation, make sure that your finger isn't covering the TrueDepth camera.

Easier said than done. Using the iPad in bed right now with just the onscreen keyboard, and I'm getting at least one failed FaceID attempt when I login to various sites and apps.

This is making me think I'd probably be happier with the Air 4 than the Pro 11. Just bummer that it's 256GB max though, plus no 5G.

Came from the 9.7 iPad Pro and the difference for me is astonishing. I love it! However, wondering if the 11 inch was the right shout. Torn as I don’t want the size of the 12.9 but I wonder if the screen makes it worth putting up with that?

I’m using a password with my iPP. Not a fan of Face ID.

I hope the Power Button Touch ID from the Air continues though. I love that on my Air, would love to see it on iPhones and other iPads.

Will test Procreate etc. later today.

I faced the same dilemma initially. But it really depends on your use case. I found the 12.9 too unwieldily to use in a one handed fashion without significant stress an fatigue in the hand and wrist.

I went from a 2020 12.9” to the 2021 11” the smaller size does take bit to get use to but the bigger size didn’t really allow for true portability while at work walking around.

Does 11 inch model suffers from shadow at the edge as 12 inch one?
no and no blooming either :p

the only "bad" thing about the screen on the 11" is that it doesn't have deep blacks. well, it does have good blacks but cause it's LCD the entire screen is lit evenly. so if you're watching youtube/netflix the black bars have some light to them but it's not distracting. nobody complained about the screen on the iPad Pro for years but now all of a sudden they are bad apparently lol.

Picking mine up today, trading in an iPad Air 3. Worried about the mail in trade in, but can't trade in store with my discount. Trying to decide between setting up as new vs transferring.

Loving this device so far. So light and compact. I am still in the process of deciding whether I want to own this 11" and a MBP, or consolidate those two devices by just owning the new 12.9". The screen is far less expansive on the 11" than what I'm used to on the 2018 12.9" I'm coming from, but that light weight really is nice for holding in one hand or throwing into a bag... Tough choice.

After having messed with my new 2021 11-inch iPP all day yesterday and half of today I really dig it. I do have a little bit of buyer's remorse because my 10.5, while aging, was still super nice and handled everything just fine (with a couple exceptions).

The one thing I don't like on the 11 is FaceID. I *VASTLY* prefer TouchID on the 10.5 over FaceID. My hand is always covering the camera, it doesn't pick up my face when I'm laying down, and for me it's much more natural to hit the button to go home or double-tap it to switch apps rather than use gestures. It's not bad on the iPhone but on the iPad for me FaceID is fairly annoying.

I always set mine up new. I love fresh device lol.,
I never did as new and always used the software update on my devices. Then i begin to have problems with recent releases requiring refreshing or restoring with my Mac. Going to set up as new.

Anecdotal observation on speed difference of my new M1 iPad, I started the 14.6 software update at same time on my iPad Air 3 and M1 iPad . The M1 was done downloading, installing and back up, The iPad Air is about 50% on preparing update.

I wound up returning mine. No difference in using Procreate from my 2020 Air, and the M1 became very hot too much for me. I really love Touch ID on the Power Button, so that is hard to give up. I hope the Touch ID Power Button makes it to other iPads and the iPhone.

The speed and responsiveness are great on the M1, but I’m ultimately an iPad Air and hopefully Mini user. May everyone enjoy their M1 11” iPads.

I read macrumors daily but I joined today to respond to your comment. I also noticed that my iPP 10.5 is brighter than my new iPP 11. I’ve had eye strain since updating to the new iPP. I changed my settings (using reduced white point, increasing brightness, increasing brightness, etc) in case it’s related to the new screen. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a setting that my eyes feel comfortable. I never had this problem with the 10.5. The 10.5 screen seems to be calibrated more to a bluish screen and the 11 screen has more of a white balance. Apple attempted to help me remotely but the rep was not successful. I have an appointment with Apple on Friday for screen brightness issue.

After using it since Friday, I’m taking mine back tomorrow. I primarily use my Pro for proofing and doing quick edits between shoots, my main apps are Lightroom, Affinity and Pixelmator. I also occasionally use Photoshop via Sidecar (the iPad version continues to be trash, sorry) and after four days of mixed use I’ve found no appreciable difference in speed or performance on the M1 versus the 2018. Indeed the only thing noticeably improved are the front facing camera and the built in speakers.
Unless Apple announces something big at WWDC (you know what I’m talking about) I’m going to recommend just picking up a heavily discounted 2020 model unless they’re using the Pro primarily for teleconference apps like Zoom or Teams. As for me, I’ll be sticking with my trust 2018 for at least another year.
