Not great so far, will give developers time to optimise their apps, hopefully after charging it a few times as well it will settle down.

safari and casual gaming, draining battery really quickly, putting it down to apps not being optimised and 14.5.1 crap battery life that everyone is talking about.

If I charge this new iPad while it is powered down will it automatically turn on once it reaches 100%?

Hmmm, lost 4% for 33 minutes usage, hopefully it’s settling down.

4% in 33 minutes is pretty normal if you ask me. Its in the 10 hours range Apple promises you.
Also, it depends if you have the cellular version or not. My 2018 11' pro drain faster than my 12,9 because I'm connected to cellular.

Got a wifi model, 5% gone 44m, hope it stays like this, thinking the poor battery life at the start was due to gaming, most likely the game hasn‘t been optimised yet.

Looks like you’re spot on, 1h7m usage 10% gone ?

Nope, does it make a difference?

Yes, the magic keyboard uses quite a bit of extra battery is what I have found on the 2020 model.

To be honest the battery life seems to be quite random right now, today I used 13% in 45 minutes all of a sudden and found the back of the unit quite warm after just browsing the web with 30% brightness. This is with the magic keyboard, I did turn off the backlight on it compared to having it on yesterday so I would have expected a better battery life than the 7 something hours I got yesterday but I seem to be getting less…

Never knew that, thanks for letting me know, got no need for a magic keyboard, use my iPad as a tablet then switch to my MacBook for laptop mode.

Have you spoke to apple about the magic keyboard draining your battery?

Also browsing safari, currently 1h26m usage, 13% battery gone, agree with you on battery life being all over the shop, the last couple of days was very inconsistent, hopefully it’s settled down now, was gaming a bit prior to today, guessing these developers haven‘t update their apps for the M1 iPad.

Hopefully you get your battery life sorted out.

Ive actually just switched the backlit off until I need it on the MK as it doesn’t seem to switch for whatever reason.

I’m tempted to pick up the brydge keyboard to see if this battery issues are related to the MK. I don’t think it is completely that to be honest. Just a shame the m1 battery life isn’t as good as the m1 Macs

You still having bad battery life? What apps are you using? Screen brightness?

Still early days for me but today seems alright, using safari, battery life seems to be better at the moment.

Well only on my 2nd charge but battery life seems a lot better but I’ve only used safari

Currently on 2 hours, 44 minutes screen on time with 80% left. Either it’s getting better or a lot of the drain was due to YouTube and I did watch a fair amount of 2160p content.

On my 11 inch seems like my battery life percentage goes down every few minutes. That’s with low screen brightness and just browsing the web.

honestly reckon after iOS/iPadOS 14.4, battery life hasn‘t been quite the same, it’s even not that great on 14.6 and 14.7 builds, even the YouTuber zolotech says in his iOS update videos that his iPad has been having some terrible battery life for a while now, remember recently apple told people to restore their iPad if they were having bad battery life, that didn’t seem to fix the issue for most people.

I restarted after the last post I made about high battery usage and then charged to 100% again. Have been using it for 3 hours at 15 minutes now and used up 35% with the magic keyboard attached all the time. This is more like it and more in line with what I expect. Same mix as before between Safari and YouTube.

Went back to gaming for a bit, ate through battery life straight away, no issues with safari, guessing it has to be these games and apps need to be optimised for the M1 iPads. ?
