The battery life on my 12.9” has not been good. I’ve had the device since May 21. I had hoped that it would have settled down by now. I will return the device if this continues for the full 2 week return period. I hope that iPadOS 14.6 fixes it.

My 12.9 5th gen is on 14.6 RC2 and the battery life so far has been good. It just dropped 1% after 2-3 hours of standby.

That’s encouraging. Thanks. I assume that the release will probably be Tuesday. I can’t tolerate poor battery life in a device this expensive.

How is the battery during usage?

Occasionally browsed the MacRmors forum, and went to a few websites.. watched a short YouTube video.

Now it is at 96%.

I updated to iPadOS 14.6 and battery life is still very poor when in use — this iPad hangs by a thread.

My replacement iPad seems to be better so far, still early days, installed 14.6 this morning will keep a eye on it.

My Battery (14.5.1) has been well under (5-6 hours) what I was hoping for (10+ hours)….have to give it more time with regular use though. Did a lot of “testing” of the screen over the weekend so brightness had a lot to do with it.

Yep, not looking good

This 10hrs battery life seems a bit false, I’ve only been looking at videos, web browsing and FB and already down to 15%

I agree, not good

I updated the M1 iPad Pro this morning and so far so good. Was at a 100% charge and it’s almost 1 p.m. now with 87% of usage. Mainly on Safari. Downloaded a calculator (that was a lame find for me - that ipad doesn’t come with it). So Um, will keep an eye out on this. I ordered dbrand skins but that doesn’t mean it’s 100% a keeper. We shall see…. I’ve had mine since May 21st.

I’ve been putting it up side by side with my 2013 Retina Burned MacBook… my old ass MBP has held up (display wise despite the burn still looks nice (though not in this picture, obv - I was just comparing size here26A38C6C-978B-4D30-9BC2-A9CD76D6F106.jpeg)

Really not enjoying the battery life here compared to my 2018 Pro, it seems to go down very fast. Watching YouTube seems to drain it twice as fast as the older Pro :(

0-25% display brightness, ProMotion disabled (seems to help stop my iPad-induced headache)

Glad I found this thread. Nothing scientific here but the battery does seem to drop a lot. I just put it down to it being new and using it more than I would after the honeymoon period? Will definitely be keeping an eye on it.

While I’m here, how does everyone manage their battery health? How low do you let it drop before charging? Is there any harm in keeping it plugged in to power?

I haven't done any scientific tests, and I've been splitting my iPad time between the 11" and 12.9" while I decide which one to keep, but I've noticed the battery life on the 12.9" to be pretty bad. At least not as good as what I was used to on the 2018 12.9"... I have been trying to accentuate the benefits of the larger screen by playing HDR video, which I'm sure has led to quicker than normal battery drain, but it seems like it's draining faster during 'normal' use as well.

Well…..I’ve just ran the rest of my battery down and it stopped at 2% for about 30min (which was strange), then it dropped to 1% lasted about 2min and switched off.
iPad has now switched off due to dead battery and I’ve plugged it in and charging back up to 100%

Yes…I’m guessing it has to be the the Mini LED making the difference. Don’t the 2020 12.9’s beat the 11’s in battery life? Again really hoping some of these things can be addressed with software but I’m getting worried.

Well, they have 2 weeks to address this situation then I may think about a return.

6 hours from a full 100% charge isn’t good, and nothing near what they state at “10 hrs”

Maybe mine has settled down.

12% left and on 10 hours, 12 mins screen on time. 7 hours of zoom as well.

With all of my Apple devices I find it takes about a week of use before you see the best battery figures. Dunno if it’s just the first few cycles or the system indexing etc
