I have LG 27UK850 monitor which supports 4k@60hz along with power using a single USB C(Thunderbolt) cable with my old macbook pro.

Now, I have ordered an M1 Mac Mini which is yet to come.

I am worried if it will run 4k@60hz using the thunderbold cable?

I also have the 4k@60hz USB C To Hdmi cable with me which I got from amazon.

But I saw in a video on Youtube that the new M1 mac mini is facing issues and is scaling down to 4k@30hz when connected via thunderbolt.

Sorry for such a long question, but can anyone help me out here?

27UK650 owner here. 60hz worked with both HDMI and a Cables Matter USB-C to HDMI cable. However, with the latter the screen would blank out intermittently (sometimes every 30 minutes or so, sometimes just a couple times a day). Someone else mentioned they saw a similar behavior and had switched out to a Belkin USB-C to HDMI cable no problem. My USB-C -> Displayport dock connection however has issues (looks like YCbCr color space causing washed out colors), but it's also a combo that only supports 4k@30hz on my PC laptop.

So, I can basically use the HDMI to HDMI cable that comes with the LG monitor to run 4k@60hz, correct?

That was me ... I didn't use the mini much over the weekend but do have to report that it has done it once again with the Belkin adaptor. I have been running Handbrake encodes on it and have noticed that the blanking seems to occur when I have had the CPU maxed out for a while.

Am sorry but can you please clarify whether I can use the HDMI to HDMI cable that comes with the LG uk850 monitor to run 4k@60hz, correct?

I can run the LG at 4k@60hz with HDMI to HDMI (AmazonBasics HDMI cable). I don't know about the specific HDMI cable that comes with the LG monitor, since I'm not sure where that particular cable is.

I don’t have a Mac Mini, but rather a MacBook Pro M1 and have been having a lot of issues with my LG 27UK850. Monitor often wakes to a weird resolution with washed out colors. If using usb c to the monitor unplugging and plugging back in, or closing the MacBook and opening it, then trying to unlock will often result in total system crash and reboot. Switching to a displayport cable from monitor to a thunderbolt dock (then usb c to the MacBook) hasn’t resulted in a crash yet, but I’m having the same display setting issues when waking. Very frustrating. Need to decide if I’m returning the MacBook before my window is up.

Oh...that's not good.

By the way is it running 4k @60hz for you? Also what resolution is it running at for you?

Also a 27UK850 owner here, but with a MacBook Pro M1 rather than the Mac Mini. With the thunderbolt cable (USB-C to USB-C provided with the monitor), I get 4K@60hz and charging through the singular cable. However as previously mentioned, there seems to be a washed-out color issue with this monitor and the M1 macs. (Not sure about the mini, but it looks like both the Air and Pro are having this issue.)

If you have a USB-C to HDMI dongle and use HDMI-HDMI, you shouldn't have a problem so long as those support 4K@60hz. USB-C to HDMI seems to not have the color issue as well. I didn't have a problem with that in regards to resolution & colors, however, YMMV.

Thanks a lot.

I've 4 cables with me actually...usbc to usbc, display port to display port and hdmi to hdmi - These 3 came with the monitor

Also I've a USB C to Hdmi cable that supports 4k@60hz

I'm hoping any one of them would eventually work out ?

I just checked the monitor and it's receiving 4k @60hz when things are washed out and the scaling is screwed up. So it would appear to be a color profile and scaling issues of some sort.

I have the LG 4K monitor running 4K at 60 Hz using the HDMI cable supplied by LG. No problems at all.
Do me a favor please! Check display resolution in system report. I run a Dell 4K on my M1 Mini and have issues with video at high resolution going from dark to light. Mine shows with 5K resolution in sys report, however it is a 4K max display. Also HDMI to HDMI

I have a brand new LG UltraFine 4K monitor connected with the Thunderbolt cable that came with the display and I also experience intermittent monitor black/blank outs (brief of a second) at least a couple of times a day. Most of the times it seems to happen when installing a program but I also got it when downloading a large installation file from the internet. So the theory of high CPU activity causing it is more than likely true.

Mac mini M1 16/512.

Edit: Happen again after I updated to macOS 11.01. Ordinary web surfing, nothing CPU intensive at all. There goes that theory... Start to get really annoyed over this!

Thanks for the input!

Are you using the cables that came with the monitor or different ones?
