My M1 arrives Wednesday, I have two LG 27UK850's already.

Can I confirm I don't need any special adaptors? Just the HDMI cable and a USBC-c that come in the box?

Also, don't suppose you have tried running 2 4K screensavers using this app https://aerialscreensaver.github.io/ have you? On my i7, it's choppy as hell on 2 screens, but fine on one.

Mine seems to be running at 30Hz using an HDMI cable. Will try a different cable to see if it makes a difference. (That said, I didn't even notice this until right now.)

I would connect via USB-C to USB-C, but this bloody display stopped working with that connection just slightly after its warranty expired. (Originally got this years ago to work with my 12" Macbook.)

I had the washed out colors on my 27UK850 on my M1 Pro that just arrived when using USB-C to USB-C. Then I disconnected the cable and plugged it back in and the colors were perfect. I am now afraid to detach it and see if it happens again.

I tested it out for all of you. Still good even after disconnect and reconnect. So not sure why it was washed out the first time.

Well, I wanted to buy the the LG 27UL850. But after I read this, it's better to go for a 32 inch monitor I guess? That sucks, I really thought this LG was a solid monitor.

It is - definitely a bug in Apple's display hw/sw somewhere...

Quick update: it appears to solve the problem if you disable True Tone display in system prefs... tried it on two different MBPs and both worked fine over USB-C after. Can anyone else confirm?
It works! I have a 32UL750-W. Kept displaying at 30Htz over usb-c. Turned off True Tone and it went to 60Htz. Then I turned true tone back on and it still stayed at 60Htz. No clue...but it works now.

In display: option click scale and then check low-resolution mode. you can change the refresh rate there.

My monitor somehow got into 30HZ too.

I'm having similar issues with my new Mac Mini M1 and a new LG 27UL600-W 4K monitor. I have tried the "Default for Display" scaling (1080p), as well as 1440p and unchanged at 4K. What brings the machine to a halt is Lightroom, even the latest version of Lightroom CC, which has full M1 support. I use Lightroom Classic, which I know uses Rosetta 2, but even still ... it reminds me of having an 8GB MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo from years ago. Just cripples the machine -- I'm talking beachballs, clicking around that doesn't register for 10-15 seconds. Just terrible.

I'm currently hooked up via DisplayPort on the LG 4K monitor to USB/TB port via an adapter. I have tried HDMI cables too, to no avail.

There's no way that Lightroom, and sometimes other apps, can bring this machine to its knees just because they aren't native ARM apps. It has to be the 4k Monitor, which I just bought to replace a 1440p 25" monitor that was working fine. Now I regret the purchase!

I've also experimented with using different Color Profiles for the monitor. I had read elsewhere that using the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile would solve the LR issues on a 4k monitor and it actually worked at first, before it reverted to a snail's pace.

Help!

I picked up the same LG 27UL600 monitor... not tried it with Lightroom, though (I use Capture One Pro and am waiting for their official release to work with the M1).

It's been great for me. No issues. I'm going through HDMI.

Something wrong with your machine. My M1 Mini running Lightroom even before it went native it did not break a sweat even with a 100K+ library and I have tons of 50mp raw images.

Dweevo and Hugodrax -- What resolution do you have your monitor at and what color profile? And Dweevo, do you mind sharing what Picture Mode you have set for the 27UL600? I'm currently using Displayport, but I'll try HDMI. Thanks guys.

I do not think this is an issue with the new systems. I have had my 4K monitor switch to 30hz a few times on my 2019 i9 iMac for some reason.

4k resolution. System HDR is unclicked for me. Profile is SD 170M-A.

Picture mode = custom, (super resolution off, DFC off...)

I don’t have a Mac Mini, but rather a MacBook Pro M1 and have been having a lot of issues with my LG 27UK850. Monitor often wakes to a weird resolution with washed out colors. If using usb c to the monitor unplugging and plugging back in, or closing the MacBook and opening it, then trying to unlock will often result in total system crash and reboot. Switching to a displayport cable from monitor to a thunderbolt dock (then usb c to the MacBook) hasn’t resulted in a crash yet, but I’m having the same display setting issues when waking. Very frustrating. Need to decide if I’m returning the MacBook before my window is up.

I just bot new MacBook Pro M1 and a LG 27uK850 and am having the same exact problems as you. An hour with Apple support was no help as they blamed it on the monitor. Sporadic use in clamshell mode turns off everything and need to use PW to turn back on. Only works now with clam open. Magenta to red Apple background often turns to blue/green and yellow. Worst experience I have ever had!!!!

I have an M1 Mac mini connected to a LG 32UD99-W monitor with a USB-C cable. Sometimes the screen doesn't wake up from sleep. Recycling the monitor power gets the display back, but the USB ports on the monitor stop working and doesn't show up on the System Profile anymore. I have a Blue Yeti mic connected and it doesn't light up when this happen. Rebooting the Mac mini fix all the problem.

I think there is something different with the USB implementation on the M1 Mac. I also have an NVMe to USB-C enclosure that works intermittently with the M1 Mac while works perfectly with other Mac. I hope this got sorted out soon.
Oh gosh — I was just settling in after a lot of research on ordering the Mac Mini M1 16GB/256GB and the LG 32UK99-W, I have researched so much that I am worn out — I have two 27” Apple Thunderbolt Displays that I’m going to sell and it’s time to upgrade to 4K and one large display would suffice. I am trying to determine, why I read some posts on all these different displays with some having issues and others not?

Hey all... really biggest problem for me is not the usb speeds is slower (even with slower disks so it is not only the 5ghz thing) well i have my biggest problem with my screen...
I can not get 4k 60Hz on the internat HDMi and my LG 27UD58-B.
I tried first what i normal use... hdmi-displayport passive into an Atan kvm switch but did not give display at all (works with my Macbook Pro 13” 2017). Ok well i tried a HIgh Spoed HDMI cable, working but no 60Hz
Next tried another canle certified 4k@60 and fast ethernet written on the package cable is very thick. But no 60Hz... i tried to use the option key when choosing scaled and i could not choose 60hz at any resolution onky when i thicked the box for ‘Show low resolutions’ and yes 60hz up to 1440p but it is so unsharp that i get very tired eyes even if i look at it for couple of seconds. I ordered powerd adapter for hdmi->displayport and it should work but no luck, also ordered 8K HDMI cable (ultra fast) but ... no 60hz other the lower resolutions. I tested all cables worked on my hackintosh 4k@60 on Catalina and windows. Really annoying... it seems theM1 or BigSir really is not working 4k@60hz on my LG 27UD58-B anybody an idea what to try next?
Sorry no firmware for LG oh and as written works great on my havkintosh catalina with RX580 4k@60Hz

I've been having the same washed-out, too bright, low contrast issues connecting from my MBP M1 to an LG Ultra 27UK670 external display via USB-C.

But when I use my work computer, a 2019 16-in. MacBook Pro connected to the same monitor via USB-C, the monitor looks great.

I've messed with brightness settings, calibrations, ColorSync Utility, and even copied the LG Ultra HD color profile (.icc) from the 2019 computer to the M1, and still have poor results.

If I use HDMI, the monitors look great, but I'm trying not to use the big-ass adapter hanging from my laptop in between both screens.

I hope there is a software update that resolves this soon.

I have a M1 Air and a 27 inch 4K LG monitor. Not sure of the exact model, I’m not at the monitor right now. I too get washed out colours sometimes. I find I can solve this by switching off True Tone or HDR in the control panel.

Hi All. I just received my M1 MBP and I purchased the LG27uk850 today. All works fine until the dreaded HDR. Colours are all wrong and picture is washed out. Spoke to Apple support and got nowhere. Tonight in a moment of madness I plugged the USB-c to USB-c (That I was using for the MBP) into my iPad Pro. Same issue, colours all wrong and over driven, found setting in the pad to turn off HDR and all was fine. So its not just an issue on the M1 chip then. iPad the same. Gonna try LG tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath.

Hi all–
I’ve had the 24” 4k ultrafine for awhile and a 27” LG 4k (usb-c) one. For flickering issues, I recommend using a thunderbolt cable from Apple (they’re like $40 for 2 meters or like $130 for one twice as long—ugh). There also used to be software from LG where you could adjust the monitor’s color profile—I think “cinema” got rid of the neon for me.
Hope this helps somebody.
