Do it, do it. You know you want it. What are you waiting for?I’m very strongly trending towards getting the MBP M4 Max right now, not going to lie.

This seems a bit weird to me. My M1 is only three years old, it doesn't even feel broken in yet.
I have two APs placed in my home so range is 30 feet or so at most from where I ran my tests.Nice! How is the range? How far are you from the router?
My MBP is directly above where the NanoHD is our house has no brick. This is on 5GHz?
It takes more time to pee waiting for the export so it is effectively not wasted time.99% of people will be able to do everything on the M1 Max so what if you save 30 second export time
There is a great deal of difference between 'need' and 'want'. I tend to have some basic 'need' I want to fix and then the rest is 'want' without any justification at all. So be it and it is perfectly valid. Well said.It takes more time to pee waiting for the export so it is effectively not wasted time.
I upgraded, not because I needed to upgrade, but because I wanted to upgrade. Forget the rationalization of other reasons, benchmarks, time saved, etc. I wanted the M4 Pro, I got the M4 Pro. Nothing else mattered.
Yup. Decided to keep my 3 year old M1 Pro, feels like pretty much the same laptop. Also hated the space black colour and didn't care much for the slight graininess introduced by the nano texture screenAnyone with m1 shouldn’t go to m4 it’s not worth it, for better benchmarks that don’t translate to real world. 99% of people will be able to do everything on the M1 Max so what if you save 30 second export time
I did the same,Yup. Decided to keep my 3 year old M1 Pro, feels like pretty much the same laptop. Also hated the space black colour and didn't care much for the slight graininess introduced by the nano texture screen
I actually had the M4 Pro with 2TB and 48GB of RAM over to test.I did the same,
Of course if I had the money to buy the m4 MacBook Pro i would as it is newer and a little faster..but not worth the $3,000+ that I would have to pay to replace my M1 in my workload. I spent $ for the M1 when it came out, so I will park awhile on the M1 until cash is available.
Don’t like the all black, but prefer the space grey too. The glare on the MacBook Pro can be adjusted by tilting the screen so no need for nano on it. My iPhone 14…I had to get an anti glare screen to put over the glass as my eyes get tired of the glare.
You mean M4 Pro? The way you wrote it is a downgrade but suspecting a typo. Im doing M1 Max 32gb 2TB 32 core GPU to a M4 Pro 48gb 2tb 20 core GPU. Like you, I am not really much of a video editor so the twin encoders, while nice on my Max when I need them, wont be missed much as they barely do anything for me. When they do the chassis redesign I might step back up depending on whats on offer. Like, if the Pro gets dual encoders and the Max gets quad.I'm thinking about selling my M1 Max 4tb 64gb ram for a M1 Pro 2tb, 32gb ram. I think the "upgrade" will cost me a few hundred dollars. Maybe $500. I think it should be faster for just about everything that I do. If I was doing heavy movie editing and encoding, the M1 Max would be superior.
Correct! M4 Pro. Seems like I won't benefit from the M4 Max on my uses (and didn't mean the M1).You mean M4 Pro? The way you wrote it is a downgrade but suspecting a typo.
