It's very odd the M4 MBP's don't have wifi 7 when the iPhone 16 does. For a product that is kept for 3-5 years on average id expect more orders if it had wifi 7.

And possibly even bluetooth 6.

im saving up for next years M5 Max hoping it will be more future proof.

Anybody change their mind with the reviews coming out?

Interesting article about M5 and M5 MBP's...

Certainly moving to the 2nm production will cool the chips more and a massive performance uplift...
I’m sure m5 and m6 will be great and faster than m4.

But there’s always something new coming, my next upgrade will be around m7/m8 time unless something drastic happens to my workflow, the m4 max dies or apple do something stupid like another butterfly keyboard (and this is why having a year or two of runway to delay a planned upgrade by budgeting on replacing at say 3 years is nice. I can push to 5 if I have to, to avoid bad models like I did by holding onto my 2015 for a bit).

I had thought that too as I have a 16 Pro Max. But the new MacBook Pro’s have WiFi 6E my previous M1 had WiFi 6. I doubt you will be in any environment where you can feel the difference between 6E & 7.

Wifi7 is very uncommon at this point and if you’re looking for network speed youre likely to be looking for a 10 gig or faster wired connection.

Fast wifi is nice but I wouldn’t be relying on it for any pro workload.

I bought a UniFi U7 Pro and the WiFi 7 on my iPhone 16 Pro Max is incredible 980Mbps standing directly in front of it. If I walk to our bench which is 5.5m away (still line of sight) I got 197Mbps. I’d happily use 5GHz in terms of speed and reliability.

Yeah, while that's decent, with my WIFI 6 hardware at home I get 500 megabit anywhere in my house (Netgear Orbi mesh setup).

It's not just the wifi standard - better/more antennas on same standard = better coverage... but again, for serious work you really want wired 10 gig if you can get it. Even wired 1 gig ethernet is usually more reliable than WIFI unless you're really close to the access point.

The point above was the new MacBook Pro’s have WiFi 6E and they have more than sufficient bandwidth to handle anything that anyone here wants to be doing. I hate the idea of buying a laptop to future proof as next generation will be better than any existing spec you will buy from the current line up.

If someone here can show me why WiFi 6E cannot handle their workflow and require WiFi 7 I would be keen to hear from you.

Anybody who needs that throughput and bandwidth will be on Ethernet...and probably docked...

I’m upgrading from base M1 Pro 14 inch to base M4 14 inch. Two main reasons:
1)my net cost on the upgrade is $800 with trade in after price match to micro center at Best Buy. Plus I have total so I get AppleCare for 2 years
2) and this one is a bit iffy, the Trump tarrifs are going to increase prices at a minimum of $200-300 assuming it’s 20% tariffs. Apple will not eat that cost.

I went same route and also used some BB rewards with BB credit card and free apple care

I picked up a M4 Mac mini base for my desktop, which replaced my M1 Pro MBP Base that I used for years docked on my desk. The laptop never left my desk, so it was a no brainer for me to pick up the Mac mini.

I'm selling my M1 Pro MacBook Pro now.

Going from MBP M1 Max to MBP M4 Pro. I will miss that second HW video encoder when I need video encoding but not for $1k.

It's tempting but I don't think I'll pull the trigger.

Currently have a 16" M1 Max 32 Core 32GB 1TB. And looking go down to the 14" M4 Pro 14/20 Core 1TB 24GB. But can't justify the cost of doing so. Large upgrade in CPU performance. GPU should be roughly the same and I I've never even come close to stressing the GPU ever.
I ultimately ended up making the switch. Sold the 16" for a really good price which sweetened the deal.

Sticking with my 16” M1 Max with 64 GB and 4 TB as it still performs extremely well (Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom Classic and Photoshop). I might consider an upgrade if they change the external design to something more interesting ( purely for irrelevant and irrational aesthetic reasons), but otherwise there really is no functional reason to upgrade. I am upgrading my 15” M2 MBA to a 14” M4 MBpro as I would like something with a better screen, SD card slot, better sound and a port on the right. I was constantly irritated by the lack of an SD card slot. (Having to plug in a card reader to transfer my photos from my camera made me go to my 16” MBPro which was not always convenient). The reduction in screen size will take some getting used to but I think I can live with that. The 16” is just too heavy for general use.

I get gigabit speeds on my iPhone 16 Pro using my 6E WiFi access points. I expect the 6E in the MacBook Pro that’s arriving to be more than enough for my needs.

The big “win” for WiFi 7 is for the radio to be able to connect to multiple bands simultaneously to increase bandwidth. That’s a win, but I am well served by 6E for now.

I received my 14” MacBook Pro M4 Max (WiFi 6E) - after upgrading from 16” M1 Max (WiFi 6)

14” M4 Max WiFi 6E - 506Mbps Down / 44.6Mbps Up
16” M1 Max WiFi 6 - 304.99Mbps Down / 17.51 Up

Mine comes today so I’ll see what my speeds are like.

A lot of it will come down to your Internet speeds and your WiFi AP among other things. I get over 900Mbps on my iPhone so I’d expect similar from the new MacBook. My WiFi 6E performance is limited by backhaul as well since I have it hooked to a gigabit network instead of a 2.5Gb network like the AP supports.

I have 1Gbps consistent internet, however with the UniFi Nano HD the max speeds I am receiving is about right for WiFi 5. I just returned the WiFi 7 U7 Pro router as it was awful. 930Mbps when standing directly in front of it, if I went to make a coffee 5.5M away (still line of sight) it would drop under 200Mbps.

At the moment I have a 14” M1 Pro purchased in early 2022. I usually keep my laptops for 5 to 7 years since it’s mostly internet surfing. It is annoying knowing every year now there is an upgrade, but I am going to stick with it for at least another 3 to 5 years.

I have the U6-Enterprise Ubiquiti APs and they perform as I mentioned.

I just got my M4 MacBook Pro today and did a WiFi speed test and it is performing as expected. Not a surprise given my performance on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro which both also have WiFi 6E support.

As I promised though, here are my speed test results.

Nice! How is the range? How far are you from the router?

My MBP is directly above where the NanoHD is our house has no brick. This is on 5GHz?
