Starting to regret ordering the M3 Max 16”, coming from an M1 Pro 14”. I’m slightly bottlenecked by 16GB ram on my 14 but that’s really it. The M1 Pro performs just fine and not sure I can justify dropping $4k for 2” screen gain, more RAM, and a 30% boost.

I may be canceling and waiting for M4

The TOL Max is 80 boost in compute per Apple's slides vs the M1 Pro. Keep in mind it has 4 more perf cores and 2 efficiency.

As far as the M4 is concerned, I'd be surprised if it gets more than a moderate bump, while the Pro will be much more substantial AFA chip binning and core allotment due to easier yields.

If you can afford to buy it, enjoy it. If you can’t afford it, and you don’t need it, chances are you’ll feel better knowing you saved the cash.

Is there a difference between MBP16" HDMI 2.1 implementation between the two (M2 and M3), I wonder if it still has the HDR bug in 4K 120Hz on OLEDs.

i think its mostly to lure intel mbp users... honestly even M2 Max and M2 Ultra [MBP/Mac Studios] are ridiculously fast for most productive tasks already...

unless m3 ultra is mindblowing but being realistic; m2 ultra from maxtech is ridiculosuy super fast already you don't even have time to take a break.
still holding onto my intel mbp even with these updates

13" M1 (Personal) 14' M1 Pro (Work). Happy with both, but was strongly considering upgrading to the M3 Pro for my personal machine mostly due to reported battery performance upgrades.

That said, I tend to hold on to Apple devices for a long time, I like the Touchbar, and it is the smallest Mac I have had since my old G4 iBook and Powerbooks.

The M1 is still really doing well and the small size / weight makes it awesome for doing serious work on a flight and still have room for a beverage on the seat tray ;) .

Need CPU power more than graphics so I went with the 14 M1 PRO (1OCPU, 14GPU). The upgrades in CPU power have not been enticing enough for me to buy a high end laptop year after year. A17/M3 3NM has also been a disappointment/not advanced as much as expected, god I want that space black though.

I am on a m1 touch bar macbook pro so i decided to jump to the m3 max 14". I use topaz and windows parallels with some heavy apps and the m1 gets tad sluggish with the 8gb ram. Also my m3 max 14” says shipping Nov 7. Anyone else having deliveries this early ? I thought it was Nov 15-17 etc.

Happy with my 14" M1 Pro. Only reason for me to upgrade would be PACman, Augury and M1RACLES, assuming these are fixed in the M3 family.

16 inch MacBook Pro M1 Max. Right now, I’m not upgrading. Might upgrade when they show up at the refurb store.

Anyone thinking of upgrading from a MacBook Pro to a Mac Studio. That what I’m thinking about.
Yes. I didn’t mention it, since Thunderbolt 5 is my requirement, but once it’s met it’ll be in a Mac Studio…

Will keep my M1 Max 32GPU 32RAM 16inch from 2021. Still a beast.
Just bought it 4 weeks ago for 2900EUR.

Will be interesting how fast the base M3 in the 14inch is. And what we will see when M4 or M5 arrives.

I have a 14-inch M1 Max with 32GB RAM, 24 core GPU, and base 512GB storage and don't plan to upgrade. It has been working perfectly for me for the past two years and the only thing I might benefit from is the extra GPU power, but only minimally. For a good portion of my workflow, even my 16GB M1 Air is a champ so I am definitely not the target consumer for the new MBP. Maybe I will take a look at the M5 or M6 for my next upgrade.

Nope, still staying with my 16 M1 Max MacBook Pro.

I am planning to keep both the 16” M1 Max MBP and M2 MBA for at least 5+ years before I consider upgrading them.

M1 Max 64 GB 14" MBP here, genuinely considering an upgrade.

Apparently while the gap between M3 and M3 Pro to previous generations is not that big, there seems to be a bit of a noticeable jump with the M3 Max. Also, I made the mistake of only getting a 512 GB SSD which is starting to get full and is generally a bit annoying (need to put video files on external drives for editing).

I don't really need the extra performance to be honest, the M1 Max is a true beast. But at the same time, I am not going to mind the extra power and increased battery lifetime + I am really getting annoyed with the 512 GB SSD...

So I am probably going to get the M3 Max 64 GB 14" MBP... but with 2 TB!

The number of GPU cores in the new models is disappointing. I don't expect much speed increase in graphics, especially compared to M2. I'm not going to upgrade my Mac Studio M1 to M3 next year.

i do not have a M1 notebook, the current is an Intel Core i5 from 2016; i am planning a M3 Max MacBookPro, so the
new speed should be fine

I am still on the fence but leaning towards no. I have less than 100 cycles on my 14” and 16” M1 Pros and they’re already extremely fast for everything that I do.
I just upgraded because I got a very good deal.
Coming from a silver 14“ M1 Pro to a 14” Space Black M3 Pro.
Kinda excited for the color but, to be honest, I don’t really have a need for that power too.

14” M1Pro MBP here. Was thinking ‘maybe’ to upgrade before I saw the new models.

I currently have 8P cores and no way would I be downgrading to 5 or 6. So the M3Pro is not an option.

The M3Max chips with 10 or 12 P cores look pretty great but are out of my budget at the moment.

To me it seems that the M3Pro chip has been neutered.

To me it seems that the M3Pro chip has been neutered.

It definitely seems to be a casualty of improving yields by reducing transistor count for this first problematic 3n run. I suspect for the M4 (N3E) we'll see a reversal which may also be a sub-year bump as Apple likely wants to get off these chips ASAP.

My 2021 MBP 14" (space grey) is just fine.
Causes me no displeasures.

And I don't care for the "space black" look, anyway.

I'll wait for "m4pro" or perhaps even "m5pro" (if I'm still around...)

I think a discounted M2 Pro is more attractive than the M3 Pro that has been neutered. Or am I wrong?
I still have my MacBook Pro 2015. But I can use another year Monterey with security updates.

Wanting to see the benchmarks. This could be like Nvidia 2XXX generation in which raster didn't improve much as the majority of the new silicon changes were to support ray tracing.

It's also crazy that there is still no hardware AV1 encoding

For the OP, flat out No, in fact I just renewed my applecare.
Until Apple starts to boost base specs. The top M3Max base model should automatically come with 2TB.

Buying any new apple product or any new tech product for that matter is like chasing your own tail, it's great and shiny at first then it starts to lose its lustre and starts to get boring and stale. People that upgrade from one M silicon to another M silicon makes zero sense at this point . I am glad you are making me richer as a shareholder tho!
