Very, very few places have 6E or the internet bandwidth to support it. If you do in your home, consider a USB-C 2.5G ethernet adapter. I do agree, though...I did a compare of all the 16" MBP models and found very little apart from cores and RAM capabilities. I'm good.I have the 2021 Macbook Pro 16-inch with the M1 Pro. It's a great computer and I'm very happy with it. The only improvement I see immediate value in is the Wifi 6E. Other than that, the specs are very similar.
Nvme storage. My PCIe Gen 4 drive inside my USB4 enclosure certainly saturates the bus (32 Gbps pcie3x4), and would benefit from 64 Gbps of PCIe bandwidth. Also, a one cable solution for dual 144 Hz monitors... Currently, to get 144 Hz on both monitors, I connect only 1 to my dock, and the other one, I have to use the Mac's HDMI output. I got the feeling that their product designers still think this is the case. Tying cpu core number to gpu cores, pushing for better and more expensive displays slowly makes these machines less and less compelling for eveyone else. I don't need a retina xdr display and gazzillion gpu cores just to code with two external displays in clamshell mode.I remember the ancient days of Macs when they were niche computers in graphics shops
I don't know how MacOS scheduling works, but in windows and linux a process either uses the E or the P cores, and they shouldn't mix. If it's similar then no single app will utilize the cpu 100%.I use iStat Menu and watch how many cores light up throughout my day (and which ones surprisingly appear to run completely off the efficiency cores)
I cannot really know certain how accurate the iStat app is, but I still find it very useful to determine which software fully utilizes my CPU, GPU, etc. I am often disappointed how few apps appear to be optimized to run all of the CPU cores or GPU cores. Therefore, I don't really see much value yet in upgrading.
Therefore, as always, the choice to upgrade is an individual one. If anyone is on the fence, I recommend using iStat Menu or just keeping the Activity Monitor open. If you aren't pegging what you have, you'll be underwhelmed with any upgrade, unless
1. You have an Intel MBP and would like a quieter computer
2. You like the look, feel, weight, or port configuration of a new computer, in which case, by all means, enjoy some new hardware!

Try Bartender, it's great.Man, I don't know...having that SD slot built in is pretty sweet. Going straight from the camera to MacBook is nice and I no longer have to pack the dongle. I do still use that HDMI port when I'm at a client's office and that's all they have for their A/V. Nice again to no longer have to carry that dongle around either.
I wouldn't hold off buying these new machines just because they have these ports...unless we're truly paying a significant amount just to have them in there? If you don't use them, just ignore them?
I just wish I had more control over what gets chopped off the menu bar by the notch and what doesn't. I wish I could just let things duck under it and come out the other side rather than totally not showing them at all. I use quite a few of the menu bar items while on an external monitor, but boom, soon as I unplug, that notch jumps in and spoils things.
Given the topic of this thread and that it might catch the eye of a new buyer or someone potentially making a big upgrade jump from a really old machine, I'll pass on some of my recent buyer's advice. I bought the 2021 MBP 14 M1 Pro to upgrade my 2019 MBP 16, that had replaced a 2014 MPB 13. (The 16 is a great machine, but dang it's heavy and noisy to the point of being asked to leave a quiet room if the fans spin up full throttle!). I was so caught up on all the great things the new machine offered and a one day only discount at MicroCenter, that I kind of forgot about the Parallels thing. I spend most of my for pay work on Windows VMs. Parallels does not work on Apple chips. I was already in the process of moving most of my VMs to Azure anyway, but still have two VMs that had to be moved to an old Mini for occasional use. This was just a minor dumb mistake on my part, but I don't regret it at all. The new MBP 14 is so light and fast for Photoshop and Lightroom, etc., and the screen is beautiful except for the stingy menu bar thing. Remote Desktop has gotten so good, and Azure has gotten to where the price feels like I get what I'm paying for, I simply don't need Parallels anymore, and thus this new MBP 14 shines. Except there's still the dependency on an Internet connection![]()
I think what they've done is deliberately made a more substantial gap between the Mx Pro and the Mx Max - previously it was just 2x the GPU cores, media engine and 2x the RAM. Now the Max has more CPU cores, a higher performance:efficiency core ratio and more than twice the GPU cores and more than 3x the RAM.
