So what do you think can we expect for the M2 iPad Pro most likely unveiled in a few weeks?

In my opinion just a M2 cpu bump & camera won't be enough to justify this update.

Any chance we may see a more substantial redesign with much smaller bezels and introduction of dynamic island?

And I hope we don't see glass casing. Too much surface to scratch and break easily.

I haven't even heard any good rumors on this one. I find it hard to believe it's going to be anything more than a spec bump, smaller bezels, better camera and maybe wireless charging. If they were planning on some big change it would have leaked a little bit.

I guess that depends on what you're upgrading from. It's like the iPhone not everyone upgrades yearly. Apple just makes incrementally better models. I think this helps so when you do upgrade you'll get the best avalible at that time. If you have an M1 iPad Pro no way. Unless you just have the $$$$ and want the new shiny.

I don't think so but who knows. I'm thinking that would have leaked out and I haven't seen anything about it. Maybe glass on the back for wireless charging. It might be a good idea to invest in a case if you're rough with things like that.

The only thing I want is that they finally relocate the front facing camera. Eye contact in video calls is important especially in job interviews. Keeping the old camera would be a deal breaker for me.

I feel this would be the best change they can make. Not enough to go out and purchase an iPad Pro (I'm not in the market for an iPad) but it would drastically improve the user experience.

Have not had an iPad before so I am looking forward to this one (12.9inch). Lets see what the M2 iPad has to offer. If the differences are really minimal to the 2021 iPad Pro, I might go for the discounted M1 version.

iPad Pros already have magnets and the Smart Connector, which can do power and data transfer. Glass isn't necessary, and I don't think many people would appreciate the extra weight of the glass and the wireless charger.
If there is to be wireless charging like on iPhones then at least some glass is needed as it won’t charge through metal. This could be either via a glass Apple logo or complete glass back (which seems very unlikely IMO). I’m in the market for a new 11 inch iPP and reverse wireless charging would be a great feature that this could enable for me personally.

Putting the camera in landscape orientation would be a relatively simple but huge quality of life improvement for me too.

The lack of rumors indicates few changes in my opinion... In terms of design, at most I expect is horizontal face ID, or probably just a bigger Apple on the back to make MagSafe charging possible, along with other incremental upgrades: improved cameras, new chip.. and most likely a new color, so that the marketing for the new model can stand out more in comparison to the 2021 models. Perhaps even a change to Midnight and Starlight, from the usual Silver and Space Gray.

Even though the announcement is just weeks away, I decided to purchase the M1 one, while it's still available. I am sure that the M2 will cost more here in Europe, regardless of the price in US (I'd guess it will start at 999€, up from 879€, like it happened with the iPhone 14).

The main focus at the October event is likely to be the base model.

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the iPad rumours drowned out by the iPhone at this time of the year? Most of the leaks seem to centre around the iPhone.

I will be in a market for a 12.9 so I am looking forward to seeing what Apple has to offer.

I would kinda question the benefits of the M2 inside an iPad, other than maybe bringing LPDDR5. I mean it's still running iPad OS. Apple already have to use software lock on features (eg. stage manager) to differentiate the M-powered iPads over the A-powered iPads. That shows that the hardware is not the bottleneck on iPads, it's the OS imo.

And it better be 4nm or 3nm M2. Even on the Macbook Air, the 5nm M2 is not tuned too well in terms of heat management. Tuning it to lower TDP for the iPad, I wonder what would be the performance delta compared to the M1.

I would eventually like an iPad Pro to use as a drawing tablet and soft-laptop replacement for writing. Granted I'm pretty ignorant of hardware specs, but if M2 is the only bump it seems like the M1 model would be the best bet?

I can't imagine near-future iPadOS would be pushing M1 iPads out to the wayside

For me to upgrade I would want to firstly see a landscape FaceTime camera, trivial I know but the amount of time my hand covers the camera for Face ID is really annoying, I wouldn't even mind it in the corner lol.

Secondly for me would be an updated Magic Keyboard, with function keys and a tablet mode where it collapses down to use the device as an iPad without having to physically remove it from the keyboard case.

I would definitely like to see dynamic island, and who knows, maybe that was initially designed for the iPad but Apple decided to introduce it on the iPhone first.

For me it makes sense as it lowers the camera module so the pencil and cameras can be stacked on top of each other in landscape.

If it’s the same design just with a spec bump again, that would be 4 generation with the same design language which is starting to get a bit long in the tooth now.

I don't see how dynamic island has any purpose on the iPad. Ipads don't have notches to begin with. Why introduce a hole when there were none? Plus the dynamic island has to adapt to landscape or portrait orientation.

It has a purpose to get the camera module top landscape as that is where the pencil module is, the dynamic island lowers the camera module down just enough to stack the pencil and camera on top of each other.

Plus I think dynamic island would also be awesome for seamless multi-tasking on the iPad, the width of the iPad would allow you to have several app icons along the top which are all dynamic too.

And what would happen when the iPad is on portrait view?

Just used the camera on my 10.5 iPad Pro to take that photo of my dog or is it frog?

A mini LED 11 pro will almost make me upgrade from my 10.5 pro. if a MagSafe charging like MacBook Air comes, sweet.
I don't care much for a redesign as I think the current design is still modern enough. No need for a notch in iPad.

I just hope Apple makes it structurally stronger like maybe using titanium but that may make the device more expensive.

I highly doubt that Apple will change the camera orientation. They are stubborn. I agree it makes a lot more sense but I just don't think they will do it.

I am pretty sure they will put the M2 in the device as they put an M1 in the air and they want to keep the two lines separate. I think the fact Apple put an M1 in the air is the biggest indication they will put an M2 in the iPad Pro. It will not be 3nm and the heat management issues about the M2 MBA are way overblown.

I think the apple logo glass cut out is very likely and not a full glass back. Reverse wireless charging. \

I hope they don't reduce the bezel size as you need some bezels for holding the device. I would like a bigger battery and longer battery life but I am not sure about that. The M2 does have better efficiency cores and better GPU so those could help with battery.

Overall it could be a pretty good upgrade with the M2 and reverse wireless charging. Maybe camera spec bump. Some new colors. What I would like to see is a better screen on the 11". I doubt mini led will happen but just better contrast, maybe a bit brighter as 600 nits is already very bright.

Other than that as others have said this will be an iterative update. I wish the prices would stay the same but a new chip and inflation probably means higher cost.

We should see soon enough!

You don't. You don't realize it, but you are constantly touching the screen while holding it. But Apple's hand rejection is so good people don't realize it and think that they are holding via the bezels only. Get a Samsung tablet with the same bezels and you'll see what I mean...

I have one. They are about the same but I do occasionally notice a palm input when I don’t want it but it is rare and the bezels are slimmer on the Samsung. Apple does a better job with palm rejection I will give you that.

Despite all the hate for Android and Samsung they offer a good product. They have always given me decent after sale support, Their products are good and generally last a long time, they give really good discounts and trade in value. Android has its ups and downs but so does iOS.

Nothing is perfect.
