All the assembly line, designs, materials, logistics are all there to make a Macbook SE today. Apple just needs to put an M2/M3 SoC in it. That's it.
Of course...they can even make the current 13" Mba the next Macbook SE with the M1 starting from $699 when the next M2 Mba will be out..and so on...Since Apple has an SE model in almost every category , we can expect for the mac too sooner than later

Exactly. Although I predict $750 - $799.

For some reason, most people here still refuse to believe that a Macbook SE is coming, despite an SE product in every major Apple product line. The $330 iPad is basically iPad SE.

This is the new Apple and it's about market share and selling services. Apple didn't work so hard to transition the Mac to Apple Silicon in order to main their measly 8.5% market share.

I hope it keeps the $999 price point of the M1 MacBook Air, but the M2 MacBook Air could very well launch at $1099 or even $1199 to cover the more expensive MiniLED display and the new case design and internals. In that scenario, the M1 MacBook Air will almost certainly stick around at $999 to anchor that price point.

If the M2 MacBook Air does launch at $999, then I could see the M1 MacBook Air see a price drop to $799. Otherwise, we would have to wait until 2023 and the M3 MacBook Air, which should be able to return to the $999 price point and then the M2 MacBook Air can drop down to $799.

So on further reflection, I expect the 2022 M2 MacBook Air to not have ProMotion which would help keep the panel price down. So I do think Apple could - and should - launch it at the same $999 price.

This would allow the M1 MacBook Air to drop down to $899 which would put price with the Education Discount at $799 which would hit that "MacBook SE" price point. This would drive adoption amongst parents (for their kids) and students should find the M1 model more than acceptable.

I think we might have two SKUs with M2 Macbook Air(or whatever they decided to call it). One with Promotion and one without. Apple is most likely just going to phase out 13 inch Macbook Pro so they will have a lot of price range to cover.

Possible, but I really think Apple will want to limit ProMotion to the MacBook Pro line both for cost reasons and as a differentiator between the "consumer" and "pro" laptop lines.

As for the M1 MacBook Pro 13", I really think that model will be quietly discontinued once existing stocks draw down. It just doesn't really serve a purpose anymore with the new 14" MacBook Pro as when configured with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD, it is within $300 of the larger model. It also has two less USB4/TB ports, lacks MagSafe and has a TouchBar which is now deprecated.

Promotion is just an Apple's version of variable refresh technology and shouldn't be that expensive to implement on lower Macbook line. Cost savings going to come from not using mini-LED displays like Macbook Pro line.

I agree.

Well Apple has not implemented it on the iPad, iPad Air or iPad Mini nor has it implemented it on the iMac (24") while it is rumored for the iMac Pro (27").

So either it costs "enough" that Apple feels they can only justify it in the more expensive "Pro" models or they are purposely restricting it to the "Pro" models as an incentive to upgrade so they would keep it out of the MacBook Air for that reason.

VVR is just one part of Pro Motion. The other is a 120hz capable display. Cost savings come from having just a 60hz display.

Finally, more people are warming up to my preaching of a Macbook SE.

But I disagree with your predictions. I think "SE" is now a brand for a great value. The "Air" brand is the mid-range brand. People want a great value MacBook.

I believe the M2 Macbook Air will launch at $1100.

Second, I believe Apple will target $750 - $800 without any education discount.

120hz capable display itself isn't the expensive part. Display being 120hz and mini-LED is why it is expensive. There will be no problem putting ProMotion display on cheaper Macbook lineup as long as they put it in regular LED back-lit IPS instead of Mini-LED.

Apple wants wide gamut on all their devices. One way of achieving it would be via OLED, like they do on iPhones, but I don’t think Apple would be able to source enough panels with characteristics they want. That makes miniLED approach for the Air likely, especially now that they have experience.

How much profit share of the market does Apple make?
I am sure Apple make tons more profit by selling way less Macs.

Yeah and bringing Mini-LED to all these laptops will give an upper hand as well when compared to other manufacturers. I know a lot of people who jumped to a Mac because everyone on Windows world was 1080p at the time.

Hell it's one of my favourite things about the iMac and the MacBooks, the display being high quality with a great panel across the board.

One of the issues with Apple's panels is usually the high response time but nobody that wants to seriously game is gonna buy a M1 device.
