Has anyone already received their (preferably 14 inch) M2 Max 30 core Macbook Pro?

I am interested in the benchmark results for Geekbench metal, but I wasn’t able to find them anywhere so far. Any help would be appreciated!

Im getting the 16" M2 Max with 30 gpu cores. Im guessing from the 19 and 38 core metal scores the 30 core should be in the upper 60's

Congrats! I am curious to see the results, with the M1 Max, the 24 core scored surprisingly high, so it might be even in the 70s maybe…?

Yeah, me too! Curious to see how much better the battery life really is to decide between refurb M1s and the new ones as well as the 19 core M1 Pro with 32GB RAM vs upgrading to the binned M2 Max. Hope it doesn’t take too long for better reviews haha

Yeah, I took a roll and have order for binned one in, as I want a bit of extra potential graphics grunt, but not max heat.

Though it's not exactly going to be hard to beat an i9 2019 16"..

Yeah it really sounds like a good option, I am going to wait a little longer since the 14 inch with that chip that I would want is in stock in stores anyways, so I could get one pretty quickly. The two media engines would probably make the most difference for me, another reason why it should be a good option.

Yeah, patiently waiting for his videos… I want to see how well those Benchmark results translate into real world usecases.

Ive just seen that the 14" only has 1 chip for the 512gb ssd, I hope the 16" 512 isn't the same.

As long as im not using swap memory it shouldn't matter right?

I have been waiting for the 14" Max. But based on these initial reviews, the 14" and 16" are actually clocked differently for the first time, with the 16" running at 3.68GHz while the 14" is closer to 3.5Ghz. So performance on both CPU and GPU are worse for 14" which sucks but I guess is better than throttling? CPU on 16" is getting 2030+ on Geekbench single core CPU while the 14" gets around 1960.

Considering the first gen 14" was clearly much more thermally constrained, it's probably not surprising, at least it's closer than used to get between the big and smaller intel laptops still if is the case.

Yeah if you're going for the 14" id keep away from the 38 core. In short burst the 38 core should be ok but 30 I think is the max for the 14"

Owning a 14” 14 core M1 I am very curious how the 30 core does with heat and fans.
I like the size but not sure if I would want 38 cores in there, considering that some showed the M1 Max 32 core throttle in the 14”.

Hey I just picked up a 14” M2 Max 30core 32gb 1TB that was in stock at Apple today. Let me know what benchmarks you want and I’ll post them up.
Im interested to see the speedometer 2.1 results. Sometimes you need to run it twice as the second run tends to be a bit faster.

I've been reading mentions of thermal throttling for M2 Max & M2 Pro on MBP.

That is unfortunate but it is a boon for desktops like the 2023 Mac mini M2 Pro & future mid 2023 Mac Studio.

Why? Because desktops can take the thermal increase. That was what I wanted last year that M1 series chips be overclocked for desktops.

If I want a laptop that will not thermal throttle then I'd go with a 5nm M1 series or 3nm M3 series Mac.

Watch out for Max Tech on YouTube, he's ordered 10 in different configurations.

Coming from M1 Pro with 42000 to M2 Max with 75000 that's a nice jump.
Yeah that'll be a hard pass. His "tests" are terrible, his conclusions usually completely unfounded and the ridiculous hyperbole and click-baiting is nauseating. There's much better places to look for real information than there.
