I'm not trying to make any argument. I offered up a very commonplace example of much more expensive products being destroyed in testing. Just about ALL consumer products get some kind of testing and much of that testing will result in destruction of the products tested. Stress testing is an extremely common practice in all kinds of stuff.

Some of us seem to be taking this like someone is taking a poo in our yard or calling our child ugly or something. If these people purchased these iPads, they should be able to do whatever they want with them. They are not destroying iPads of the people posting such shock & dismay posts. If I buy one to use as a frisbee or to hammer nails in a wall, that's my business... and doesn't affect anyone else in the least.

These are not priceless treasures or holy artifacts or similar being destroyed by terrorists. Somebody is apparently running tests on some iPad or iPads they PAID FOR to see how easily they bend. Whether they make money on eyeballs or review content or are just doing it for fun is 100% their business. There doesn't appear to be any great shortage of supply, so even an argument of not being able to get one when these evil villains are destroying the precious few available does not apply.

It's THEIR iPads. They should be able to do what they want with them. If it's OUR iPads that WE paid for, we can sue them for damages to OUR property. If it's Apple's iPads acquired by illegal means, Apple can sick the law on them and have them in jail. But if they are the rightful owners, they can do what they want with THEIR property.
And they’re destroying THEIR iPads in THEIR videos that they’re posting on a PUBLIC website for US to watch and for US to comment on with OUR opinions which is what WE are doing. If you’re gonna start with a narrative, see it through to the end, don’t just stop in the middle to make an illogical point.

I can't count the number of times I've accidentally sat on my Air 2; a magnificent device that's retiring in a few months, after 8 years of service. Pity it's become superfluous now that I have an iMac, iPhone, and MBA.

There's whole entities that crash many brand new cars every day to apparently gauge the safety of passengers in collisions.
That's an impressive straw man / "what-about-ism". By the way, it's the insurance companies that pay for the crash testing and the reason they do it is because it's less expensive then having to payout the bodily injury claims. Or, in other words, occupant safety is side effect of corporate greed.

Of course, that's neither here or there because... who is it that is being maimed or killed by iPads? It's not like the regular use of an iPad puts oneself or others in harms way.

OK, I guess I'm not understanding the offense. If people are being forced to watch this awful thing, I guess there's ample room for outrage. Else, there's an endless well of things that we can optionally watch online that we can judge as offensive- plenty far worse than bending a few tablets. But posts about this read like some of us are taking it personally... or that this is doing harm to OUR own iPads.

I've never understood the point of these "bend tests". Why would anybody take a product that costs a few hundred dollars and do something that is completely out of the ordinary?? Accidents happen occasionally, but in the case of a product like an iPad, it is not going to be a health hazard.

I simply selected car tests as an example that anyone should know... a tech-based product that costs farrrrrrrr more than iPads getting destroyed every day. I have since added that just about everything we consumers buy gets some kind of testing and that much of that testing- for whatever reason- will result in a product that can't then be sold or subsequent used as intended.

Exactly. IMO- let the outrage fit the offense. This is people doing whatever they want to do with THEIR iPads. Who cares? Apparently a number of us care about what other people do with their property. Is it their iPads or not? If it's not, whoever they belong to should probably have some say... but I suspect these particular iPads belong to no one posting such shock & dismay.

Shame on them. Let them pesky humans die in car crashes. Why waste some perfectly good cars or tablets in pursuit of some kind of consumer benefit analysis? What's important is company products & profit! /s*

Besides, when it comes to Apple stuff, if anything at all goes wrong, it has to be the users fault, cheap Chinese chargers, someone else's ancillary product, etc. Apple cannot make any mistakes. /s*

IMO: if they purchased these devices to use them in this way, that's THEIR business. Once purchased, Apple no longer owns them. Anyone should do with their owned things whatever they want to do with them... as long as they don't harm others.

*middle 2 paragraphs are sacarsam in case some of us are not getting it.
Not a drop of validity to comparing this to government automobile crash safety tests. Maybe if you crawled inside the iPad before the bend test there might be something to compare.

A curved screen iPad... cool!

That will go nicely with my curved monitor and curved HDTV... into the garbage.

OK, I just picked one simple example probably anyone knows. Just about EVERY product is tested for safety, consumer issues, consumer impact, for reviewing purposes, etc. Someone deciding to stress test new iPads is no great crime... unless testing just about everything is some great crime.
Consumer products are tested to make sure that they, for example, don't strangle or suffocate babies. That they won't light on fire and burn down your house or electrocute the user. Or, for that matter produce harmful RF / Cellular interference that could interfere with public safety operations or, I dunno, the communication or navigation system of an airplane.

YouTubers destroying consumer goods is just for monetary clickbait. No one really cares if non-Apple product bends.

The rush to destroy something that costs $1300 for clicks in a pretty grim version of reality to be living in.

What a waste.

If they can turn a healthy profit on it, it's pure capitalism. It also reassures people who have concerns that these new iPads Pros are truly durable, despite the incredible thinness. With the reviews backing up what Apple has been saying, I doubt Apple is too bothered by it. They are also recyclable.

If that was your point then why all the false equivalence about automotive crash testing, if you know that it's entirely unrelated to clickbait youtube videos?

No, testing is done for all kinds of reasons beyond only safety. Some testing is done to help people decide if they want to buy a product or not. A few years ago there was "bendgate." This might be seeing if there is "bendgate II" potential here. As a consumer who buys things- including Apple things- I like to know if what I'm buying has any issues... not only those that might endanger health or life- but also those that help one decide if they are getting their money's worth or not. And as the price of the thing goes up, I want to know all that much more if there are any issues that might affect me as buyer.

If YouTubers are doing it for clickbait, good for them. Presumably it helps them make more money than the products they purchased cost. If they could get enough eyeballs to cover the destruction of a million units of Apple whatever, I'm sure Apple would be thrilled to sell them a million units.

People seek "any issues?" reviews for all kinds of stuff. I just did it myself for tire pressure gauges... before I laid out only $100 to buy a set. This morning I was reading reviews for some audio/video equipment that costs under $40. A few days ago, I read and watched some reviews of a simple Childs toy... moreso to try to determine if the child would like the toy... but also to know it wouldn't fail/break/etc too quickly.

I appreciate knowing the good and the bad to help me choose the right one among all available. It's called being a consumer. We're SUPPOSED to want to know such stuff because our part of the buy:sell bargain is supposed to be about getting the most we can get for our money.

For all I know this could be purely clickbait. I don't care about that... nor do I grasp why anyone else would. If enough eyeballs don't watch, they don't make enough money to make it profitable. Next time they won't be so quick to buy new Apple products to destroy.

The car thing was- again- an example of something that costs much more being destroyed for consumer testing. It was an example of something that I knew pretty much anyone would know. I could have identified countless other seemingly insignificant product tests done for all kinds of reasons... but mostly to help consumers choose which product among many to buy. Some of those tests will destroy the product and/or make it no longer to function or be used and/or re-sold.

I chose to get into the conversation because people seemed to be "mountain out of molehill" freaking out over these people buying some iPads and seeing how easy they bend. Who cares... unless they are testing on iPads purchased by those taking such offense... and/or stolen them from Apple... and/or are purposely misleading by faking results? Else, it's THEIR iPads and they should be able to do whatever THEY want with them... just like here at MY house, I should be able to do whatever I want to do to it. Don't like my choice of paint colors? What's it to you? Don't like me knocking out this wall? What's it to you? Don't like me remodeling some part of it? Why should anyone else care? Etc.

Apple Inc happily took these people's money to sell them these iPads. At the conclusion of the sale, Apple no longer owns those iPads. And if buyers want to buy more solely to also destroy them, Apple will be quite happy to sell them some more.

This morning, I cracked a couple of eggs to make some breakfast. Had I posted a video of their destruction, would dozens of people freak out... or only if they were eggs laid by Apple? Rhetorical: I know the answer. ;)

Don't make a habit of sitting on or dropping your iPads and you'll be fine. But I do wonder if you put this in your backpack enough times if it will make it uneven. Its one of those things that Apple loves to do, give us products that look amazing when new but get scratched up to heck, discolor, and now warp over time to give you another reason to pay them again.
What Apple loves to do is give us enough new features with each update to make us want to buy the newest model and pass the old one to a kid or relative, who will get hooked on iPad and become part of the upgrade cycle.

That is why I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inch (5th generation) from 2021, and also an iPad Pro 11-inch (third generation) from 2018, and also an iPad mini 4 from 2015 charging on my bedside table. I had a 12.9 first generation iPad Pro from 2015 that got shattered in a fall from a moving truck, and I've had several other iPads going back to the first iPad.

I don't upgrade to every version. These latest are enticing, but the three I have are still working fine, and they're in decent shape (the 11-inch from 2018 has a crack across the screen). Maybe Apple will reel me in with their next update.

I don't care what people do with their own devices. I just find monetized clickbait to be annoying. You don't, and that's fine. But don't you dare pretend that you don't care and then go on like this, lol. You may not care about drop/break videos, but you sure as heck care that somebody else might.

I have yet to see a post where it looks as though the person is taking it "personally". We can point out stupid and pointless things without taking something personally.
