Exactly. This time I’m hearing more and more voices claiming that software needs to be on par with the powerful hardware. Even MKBHD said it multiple times during his first impression vídeo past week.Like the "crush" ad, here's hoping the reviewers force Apple to wake up with iPadOS. If you think we want MacOS on iPads, I'm sure Apple is sick of hearing reviewers complain.
Time to meet in the middle.
I can’t imagine it, because basically Steve Jobs fought against the tech press consensus that wanted a Mac tablet (same as of today), and used a modern and touch-first OS from scratch. Based on consumer reception, seems like it was (and still is) the right call.Call me a 40-year-old boomer but...
This would be a perfect scenario for Steve Jobs to give a live keynote and at the end say that there's "One More Thing…"
And then he says, "In a secret area of our offices, in that building, we have been creating a version of macOS that runs on iPad. We have done it with every release. And with macOS 15, we think we have it right. Introducing macOS on iPad."
And then the crowd starts cheering.
And I would also guess that only people roughly my age or older can truly appreciate this dream as it reminds us of the PPC transition Keynote and the reality that the Mac and the Mac OSes are what's made all this possible. Those who don't understand, I humbly predict, never had a Macrumors account pre-iPhone or stared in appreciation at a pulsing Aqua blue OK button when Mac was awake and a pulsing white light when Mac was asleep.
You must have better eyes than I.It did always bother me, to be honest . Perhaps am I a dragonfly
This year seems to be all about AI. If you drink every time someone says AI on stage you’ll be drunk within 5 minutes. The main purpose so far for forking iPad OS is to allow Apple to neglect the iPad and only put the latest software features on iPhone. I hope 2024 is the year that iOS gets overshadowed.
I really wish the next iPad Air comes with the gorgeous 120HZ refresh rate LCD display from the 11” iPad Pro, and an M4 SoC. And please don’t remove the 16GB of RAM option from the Air lineup! Even if it’s just in the 1TB configuration.I'll probably settle with apple on the day they make base products 120hz
Iphone 17 should have 120hz, so I imagine the ipad air would too, eventually.
The only reason I got an ipad pro is for pro-motion .
But seriously, this is especially true on ipad for me : drawing, taking notes, editing pdf and papers , reading comics , editing pics/vids .
I'd be totally fine with an a14 and 6gb of ram . That means even the base ipad 9 would do .
False. What they wrote was that the previous-gen Pro (Sixth Gen M2) rendered this test in 1 min 57 sec. The new one with the M4 rendered in 1 min 3 sec.Gizmodo said the M4 "feels more like a fork of the M3 than real new hardware." As an example, an Octane X rendering test took 1 minute and 53 seconds with the M4, and the same test on a MacBook Air with M3 chip took 57 seconds.
Federico Viticci is quite harsh about iPad OS. I know Apple employees are aware of him and read his site. And this year he was invited to the press event in London. Is Apple just being stubborn about iPadOS or just neglecting it because the iPhone is what matters? Apple made the decision to fork iOS and create iPadOS. Why do that if it’s largely going to remain iOS? And if Apple has big changes for iPadOS at WWDC it seems like they should have just announced them at WWDC. Add an extra half hour. Make it the one more thing.

Not an iPad Pro Review: Why iPadOS Still Doesn’t Get the Basics Right
Let me cut to the chase: sadly, I don’t have a new iPad Pro to review today on MacStories. I was able to try one in London last week, and, as I wrote, I came away impressed with the hardware. However, I didn’t get a chance to use a new iPad Pro over the pastwww.macstories.net
It does have pro-level creative apps that can utilize its power. It just happens to be that you don't use them. After getting the M1 chip the iPad no longer needed more power. It needs software that can actually utilize its power...
I agree, this iPad Pro is a niche product and it's even priced accordingly. The MBP, Mac Pro, Mac Studio are also niche products. Nothing wrong with that. I think this sums it pretty nicely with respect to the iPad ProUnless we see some real improvement at WWDC with iPadOS features that are ready to roll at release, (instead of having to wait until some future point in time) Apple has created a very niche product with this latest Pro model release, in my opinion. That isn't going to promote Pro sales.
As someone who used the 2020 iPad Pro with MKB as my primary device for over a year, and also had the first gen Air, I agree with the article. I like the iPad for what it is, with a large part of that being portability. And after the new tech ownership fades, I always end up frustrated with the lack of continuity between my Mac and my iPad. I don't expect my iPad to be a Mac. At the same time, I shouldn't have to try and jump through several more steps (and third party apps) than the Mac, to get basic tasks done. I think the iPad has a lot of potential for every use level. The problem is I still experience a lot of friction at the general use level on the iPad.I agree, this iPad Pro is a niche product and it's even priced accordingly. "And creators were certainly top of mind with the new iPad Pro, as Apple heavily emphasized the device’s capabilities in video capture, music production, and digital art. The latter also supported by the new Apple Pencil Pro. Apple’s decision to position the iPad Pro as a creator-centric device makes sense, given the significant progress Macs have made in the business world since the launch of the previous iPad Pro model. With the Mac taking care of every day’s productivity allows the iPad Pro to be more focused. This targeted approach shows Apple’s understanding of the evolving needs of its user base. Instead of trying to be an all-in-one productivity device, the iPad Pro now stands as a specialized tool designed to cater to the specific requirements of creators across various disciplines. The iPad Pro has the potential to become a preferred tool for artists, musicians, filmmakers, and designers, enabling them to explore new creative avenues and produce compelling work with the support of AI."

For everyone else, there's the iPad / iPad Air.
100% agreeI shouldn't have to try and jump through several more steps (and third party apps) than the Mac, to get basic tasks done.
Dude, you're tautally right!the iPad Pro is able to "handle pretty much any task it's capable of executing,"
Isn't that a tautology?
Yes, multiple reviews have noted this. It’s more subtle than with “paperlike” screen protectors though, apparently. The extra tactility noted for the matte display is interesting. Does anyone else see comments on it?
