Still rocking the 2019 entry-level iPad. I’ve somehow lived with minimum storage space all this time, but it’s definitely slow and showing its age. May be due for my first iPad Pro.

Is Apple just being stubborn about iPadOS or just neglecting it because the iPhone is what matters? Apple made the decision to fork iOS and create iPadOS. Why do that if it’s largely going to remain iOS?
It’s not just iPadOS itself. Look for example at how limited the Mail app is, and how bad the Calendar app is. I suspect the problem is that most developers and managers at Apple don’t use iPads for actual productivity work, and therefore don’t themselves feel the incentive to fix all the little (and large) shortcomings they would otherwise encounter. Much of iOS/iPadOS updates feels like design-by-committee features being added, instead of research being done what the friction points are for actual users.

I don’t understand how the software is hampering the iPad. Maybe I use it differently but my iPad M2 works well now to be replaced by the M4 11 inch. Sounds like I will be happy when it arrives tomorrow

There are too many reviews. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Lately I’ve been watching the Asian ones. They’re detailed and thorough, and most provide captions. I’ll stick with those and the ones from legitimate tech sites and writer’s.

Redhibitory: "Under contract law in some legal systems, a redhibitory defect is a hidden defect that prevents a product from performing the task for which it was purchased."

Good call. Was hyperbolic tho

Also meant to use it for its 2nd definition , perhaps is it not used by natives though. Mixing french and giving equivalent for pentasyllabic words might not always translate or convert my thoughts as well as I could think 😅

So list the Hampered software what ever that is?
Never any definition it seems.
Build some un-hampered software then.
I never understand these kinds of posts.
Another broken record.
I raise you the entire Adobe suite.
No options for a VM (Parallels).

How’s that for starters?

You could also add Microsoft Office, er, 360. The program I use most, Word, is fine for working on a single document on my iPad Pro (though the function set is a subset of the desktop version, so not always) but far less practicable when I start opening multiple documents (for work I often need three to five open at a time). I suppose this is not entirely Apple's fault; Microsoft could offer a tabbed interface (on their desktop versions too!). Still, it's one of the things that makes me regret buying the expensive tablet instead of a Macbook Air or Pro and sticking with pen and paper for sketching. At the time of purchase, I thought a laptop would be redundant given that I have a Mac Mini.

Do you have links to any of the reviews that you watched? I would love to watch them.

I just crossed posted this. This is a perfect explanation of all the artificial limitations of iPadOS. Even if you are happy with iPadOS, you can admit to these failings and the need for iPadOS to address them.

This article perfectly expresses why I still jailbreak my Apple devices including my iPad Pro 10.5. Lots of his complaints are made possible via jailbreak including a better and complete file manager, true windowed multitasking with a freely resizable pip window, better more complete shortcuts mapped to any hardware buttons or on screen gestures, UI speed and functionality improvements, customization, and so much more!

I look forward to the 13" iPad Pro that I ordered. I like iPad OS, my only complaint is that I want third party browser engines like they allow in the EU. Also, when I want to use my iPad as more than an iPad, it is the perfect secondary screen for my Mac. I use my iPad Pro and Mac together almost daily.

I don’t own a Mac. It’s quite annoying to have to go to icloud.com to create a rule for the mail app. They really need to beef up features on the core Apple apps.

Call me a 40-year-old boomer but...

This would be a perfect scenario for Steve Jobs to give a live keynote and at the end say that there's "One More Thing…"

And then he says, "In a secret area of our offices, in that building, we have been creating a version of macOS that runs on iPad. We have done it with every release. And with macOS 15, we think we have it right. Introducing macOS on iPad."

And then the crowd starts cheering.

And I would also guess that only people roughly my age or older can truly appreciate this dream as it reminds us of the PPC transition Keynote and the reality that the Mac and the Mac OSes are what's made all this possible. Those who don't understand, I humbly predict, never had a Macrumors account pre-iPhone or stared in appreciation at a pulsing Aqua blue OK button when Mac was awake and a pulsing white light when Mac was asleep.
Except it wouldn't be called macOS for iPad, it would be called iPadOSX :D

"iPad Pro is like driving a Ferrari on a golf course"

OMG, nails it.

However, my brain went to - how fun would a Ferrari on a golf course be if you mounted a raised suspension and off road racing tyres :p

As someone who's not a boomer pining for a desktop OS on a tablet, this revision sounds amazing and I can't wait for mine.
I wonder prefer not to have an outdated phone OS on a powerful tablet meant to do professional level work.

I don’t think MacOS is the answer, but iPadOS needs to be MUCH better and not designed to mimic a smartphone.

Speilberg’s golfcart at Universal was dressed up to look like a Mercedes. That was fun. And ironic at the time because he and his family and staff all drove identical Ford Explorers at the time.

it's not a good platform for those who want to "multitask on multiple windows."
No one on a Mac multitasks in multiple windows. They single task in one window, switch to another window, then single task in that one, etc. Or, perhaps they’ll be tasking in one window while looking at, not interacting with, another.

Meanwhile, on an iPad, it’s possible to actually multitask, scrolling in one window while typing numbers into another.
