The M3 is already running at a HOT 4 GHZ up from 3.4 GHZ on the M2.

I wander how HOT the M4 will get when they crank up the GHZ? How else they gonna get it running faster?

Still built on 3nm like the M3.
No new GPU units expected and n3e vs n3b is limited regarding performance. Therefore the focus on NPU -> Taking the NPU cores from A17 will give 100% performance boost.
Question is what they will improve for A18.

Just bump the RAM to 16GB at the bare minimum please. ANY argument aside, they just aren't cheap enough to justify having 8GB. ARGUMENTS ASIDE. I don't want to hear anyone claiming that 8GB is enough or whatnot. They're expensive enough to come with, at the very least, double the storage and RAM. They've already approached the limits of their customers and they are losing on sales.

Also, I just wanted an M3 mac mini... or a cheaper M2.
With Apple seemingly digging deeper and deeper holes for themselves in suggesting 8Gb = 16Gb equivalency, but now apparently qualifying that suggesting that 8Gb is fine for BASIC tasks, then perhaps the whole of the Pro range should be renamed deleting the word Pro inserting BASIC. I am getting increasingly concerned at Apple following the 8Gb = 16Gb etc., when its technically wrong and they know it. Multiple tests have demonstrated the loss of performance in anything but basic tasks, let alone swapping overheads, so to name these devices PRO is not on and Apple's success has been built on quality products that do the job, and do the job well, for all customers. That reputation is fast slipping away.

Charging for a 'Pro' product that in its 8Gb format can only perform basic tasks without performance degradation damages their brand and their whole modus operandi.

Apple should bite the bullet and stop following idiotic comments down rabbit holes, where it appears the whole of the Apple propaganda machine is going down the RAM HOLE.

We have now decided for the first time to offer Wintel Machines in our line up. Apple's greed is going to be their downfall if they are not careful.

So Gurman believes the Studio and Pro will skip the M3? Rubbish, they either get M3 this year and soon or they get M4 this year.
Gurman is full of it, and I doubt this timescale of his has any value what so ever with his track record.

There's one thing I like after updating to the Apple Silicon is that the updates keep coming, as it was frustrating waiting on the Intel update cycle.

Don’t really understand. You can configure the MBP to up to 128GB Ram. Many many Pros (people using their machines to get their paycheck) are using office apps only. 8GB is enough for these kind of tasks.
Why should a company pay more for the machines for their employees when those don‘t need more than 8GB of Ram?

If they are planning on doing such frequent chip upgrades, don’t expect huge improvements between generations. Totally fine by me, I upgrade my Macs every once in 4-5 years.

No huge improvements therefore there will be differences in supported features as apple does with their iPhones.

Didnt Mark Gurman say Apple was testing an M3 mac mini with 24GB of ram in August 2023!? not sure if its still worth waiting till wwdc for that or just get the M4 mac mini in october 2024!?
If the M3 Mac Mini comes out , there’s no way his timeline for the M4 is true ,

I hope it comes out , don’t want to wait close to one year for an M4

Are you sure about this ? I remember he had clearly said that the MacBook AIR is launching that month on his power on newsletter and it happened to launch the next day ?
Yes, Mac rumours posted an update from Marc Guman that same Monday around noon says no new hardware this month ect ect and 20 minutes later Apple launched the M3 MacBook Air.

I’m not saying the guy is never right but just lately he’s either flat out wrong or just making educated guesses. I could write a Gurman scoop.. let’s try..

“Apple continues to work on the next generation of Apple Silicon with M4 currently readying production.

The M4 and M4 Pro/Max will featuring improved performance and enhanced graphics.

The M4 Max/Ultra will be an even more powerful chip with more cores.

The release schedule for M4 will be later this year and pushing into 2025”

See it’s easy. Maybe I could get a cushy job at Bloomberg. 😀

SHOCK UPDATE - iPhone is planning an iPhone 16 for release in September / October.

See, I did it again. Wow, maybe I am Marc Gurman. 😀

It is called a MacBook Pro. A pro machine should be able to tackle more than just basic tasks as standard.

Gurman said that Apple will emphasize the artificial intelligence capabilities of the M4 chip series.
This is supposedly due to falling Mac sales eh?

Yet Apple still has 8 / 256 as the base SKU & charges outrageous prices to upgrade.

Hahaha point taken ,

I’m just surprised on the hardware article , I keep refreshing the Mac rumours page waiting for an announcement on a new Mac Mini and I could swear i didn’t see any update that time on a Gurman article denying any hardware launch

Remember "supply chain" and "covid"? Conceptually, M-series is A-series for Macs. If A-series is an annual update, M-series can update annually too. History shows that not to be the case but there's that "supply chain" excuse again.
I find it hard to believe that Covid is what prevented Apple from releasing annual updates to M-series chips when Covid didn't affect annual updates to A-series chips.

Isn't the more plausible reason for why we haven't gotten annual M-series chip updates is because people are less likely to upgrade their Macs every year vs those who upgrade iPhones every year?

this is 3.16am - Gurman says Apple will limit announcements to accessories this week

this is 4.04am - Apple Announces M3 MacBook Air

It's notable also the hardware Gurman spoke of launching that week still isn't out. So he was double wrong. 😅

Edit - he also mentioned iPads were launching THAT NEXT WEEK so he was triple wrong. 😆

So now i'll have to wait another year for MBA M4 instead of getting the correct M3 version.
Gurman claimed iPads were coming the 2nd week of march. I'm not sure why anyone is even taking his word as scoops any more.. At this point there are 10-15 'scoops' from Gurman a month and one of them will turn out to have some truth to it. I wouldn't base your next Mac purchase on anything he says.

Well I hope he is wrong, I don't want an MacBook Pro, for a laptop I prefer the Air which I have and at home to use my MacStudio. I am NOT gonna buy a MacStudio with hardware that is over 6-9 months old, I understand their strategy oh I can't wait I buy the MacBook Pro and later the MacStudio.. We pay good prices, get good products just release the stuff starting from high-end to low-end and processors like M3 Max the same time.. But I guess that is wishful thinking.

Depending on what rumours you want to believe you could be ordering an M4 Ultra Mac Studio just 8 weeks from today.
