1TB because when traveling, I copy everything from my cameras (photos and videos) and edit them as I get time. The iPad also serves as an additional backup of photos/videos.
What programs do you use? This is exactly what I do. 512 was good til now but I wqs using Apple Photos with icloud photos. Recently started using LR and shooting way more in RAW, not sure if 512 will be enough

I use Lightroom for photos and I also have a 360-camera which takes up a lot of storage. Backing up to iCloud when traveling is really slow.

Going to be recording tons of volleyball games in 4K. Do not want to have to deal with trying to get it off the Ipad while on the trip.

I got a 256GB 13 M4 that I use for editing photos and videos as well as some light gaming.

I have the iPad hooked up to a TB4 mini dock that allows me to use external SSDs and a card reader for the editing. I also have my 32" monitor running through the TB4 dock so I can switch back and forth between my Mac Studio and the iPad by toggling the monitor input. The monitor has a built-in hub and I have an audio interface with a pair of 8" studio monitors plugged into that so when I switch inputs, my Mac or iPad get the interface and speakers for sound. No complaints about the iPad speakers here! Very happy with my setup.

It’s not a good strategy to store all your data on a portable device. Having said that if you are a videographer you'll need the space. Else, once you are done with a project you archive the raw elements and use or distribute the output.

Thinking about Getting the 2TB version as my photo library + media library far exceeds 1TB, and even That I still need to enable optimised Storage For photos.

The sad part is transferring it away

Not sure who you were referring to, but, in my case, I have at least three copies of my photos/videos when traveling. iPad is one of them, and, if time/bandwidth allows, I back up to cloud too.

1TB. It’s complete overkill for me, for now. But I figure it will be many years before they actually improve the size/weight/display quality in as meaningful a way as they just did.

Talk to me in five years, when I’m on my third iPad since this one to remind me what a nut job I am…
