I have a new 12.9 M2 air and my wife now has my old 12.9 M1 Pro. They are both 256 GB. I find we both only use less then 50 GB with iCloud and One Drive.

I went with 256gb.

I’m just a general user, and only upgraded from my 2018 iPad Pro for the AI that’s coming.

Plenty of storage for me.
This is exactly me. Didn’t “need” to upgrade my 2018 11” iPP to the new 2024 M4 11” iPP… but was a nice treat after 6 years, easy to justify. I really just use it for basic tablet-like stuff… I just like having the nicer screen and the newest tech, and I had held off upgrading my 2018 through all the M-series versions, as it was (and still is) a great device.

Got 256GB. I had 1TB before and frankly as someone who updates their ipad frequently, the 1TB did not hold its value very well.
Yes, storage upgrades really don’t hold value. Especially for iPhones and iPads (less so for Macbooks). The value is in the tech, not the storage. When you can get a newer one, brand new, for the same “base model price”, you can see how on the secondary market, ppl don’t really pay up for higher storage options on older models.

It really boils down to the fact that with Apple’s well known crazy memory / storage upgrade pricing, you really need to need it! Because as a %, the upgrade prices hurt! At $999, the 256gb 11” iPP is a relative deal lolv(even cheaper than my prior 2018 11” iPP was, given base model was 128gb at the time, so it was an upgrade). Versus the 512gb at $1199 (+$200 / 20%) and the 1TB at $1599 (+$600 / 60%!)… huge premium to pay if you don’t need it.

To me, as someone who doesn’t need to upgrade my 2018 version, but wanted to “treat myself”, the fact that I could happily make do with the $999 256 base version, vs having to pay $1199 or $1599, helped me justify the purchase. The tech is nice for sure. Apple really makes great tablets, even if we disagree with a lot of things (eg. the potential with iPadOS!).

512Gb here. Very likely I don’t need it. So much is in the cloud and unless it’s a must have, mostly I leave Video’s off of the device. Had a 256Gb for five years, never used all of it……but….I’ve had one too many instances of going with not enough storage and seriously regretting it down the line - never want to go there again. So but the bullet and upsized.

I normally buy the base model, but I am selling my MacBook Pro M3 Max, hence the iPad Pro will become my new portable computer; so 2TB for me. I will have a desktop Mac at home to remote into if necessary.

1Tb because I was reasonably certain I didn’t need 2Tb. And 16Gb and worries free space and I do use about 600gb, so it wasn’t gonna fit in 512 anyway.
And it has become my primary work device, so why not?
