That was before the new Mac Pro was announced though, which IMO was always more likely since it'd be better able to absorb the extra cost.

It would make some sense to spread out distribution of the Mac Mini though now that there's a US plant; any extra costs of production can be offset by reduced shipping, and possibly tax breaks. They can then continue to use other locations for Europe etc. This also avoids any issues if there are problems at a single plant, as it will only impact some sales.

This thread got me thinking--It would be super cool if the Mini gets a miniaturized Mac Pro form factor.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe something like this?

It would be great if it was American made. I haven't heard that before. We could use the jobs.
Meanwhile, people in far poorer countries are saying, "It would be great if it was made in our country…we could use the jobs."

It's seems like Apple decided to give up on Mac Mini line, because it's too late for Haswell upgrade...what do you think guys?

I tend to think that they forwent this refresh but will absolutely do one for Broadwell.

I hate to say that as I bought mine 6-7 months ago and thought that maybe there was a refresh due at that time. So 6 months with no refresh is tough to handle :(

I do not think that there is ANY chance of them dropping the mini entirely. That would be total insanity.

This has happened before -- 2008. The reason then, in hindsight, was there wasn't a new CPU that could make a significant improvement. I think that's the current situation, too.

See that's where you'll get me... it's survival of the fittest in this world. CEOs in this country have things made in poorer countries because of the cheap labor and lack of safety standards.

Now by no means am I saying that America should dominate over every single nation but we used to make things and our manufacturing base has declined in the past few decades. It's sad.

And now back to your regularly scheduled program.

**** I sure hope so. I thought Iris or Iris Pro would both be a perfect boost over the Intel HD 3000 that I currently have in my 2011 mini but oh well.

I think the efficient cooling requires a certain size of the heat sink and therefore a certain height. The heat sink is in the center of the nMP, not on the outside. And if you need a certain height for the heat sink, you need also space for the power supply and the fan. Or in other words: I believe that such a design is impossible for a true Mac mini.

In other threads, people speculate already that the nMP cannot use the full power of the CPU and GPUs, because he has a small power supply and not enough cooling.

It's also possible that they wait for new, faster Haswell processors (Q2/2014). I heard a rumor, that those new Haswell processors are only compatible with a newer chipset, which supports SATA Express and Broadwell (hypothetical). It's probably a strategic decision.

i just LMAO hahahhahah

If I recall you were one of the first to say that it would be in 2014. Many people mocked and insulted your ideas and they were wrong while you are correct. you should be happy since you are correct. And when you see the pc world has not made any small form pc that is better then a mini and that the 2012 mini is the number one selling headless desktop on usa amazon I can see no mac mini until may or june of 2014.

Bout time for the mini to get updated. It's been too long. The pros out. They've got Mavericks out. There's new ipads and iPhones out and now there is no other reason to wait. They left this far too long imo.

I am dreaming of an Mac Mini the form of a smaller nMP but with colored transparent plastics like the old iMac G3 :)

An update would be verry welcome. I'm long past my mental point of no return... I will not pay full price on hardware that is a year old, but i also can't find any refurbished or good second handed I7's.

Besides, here in Belgium we pay 1160 dollars (850 EUR) for the base I7 mini... what a joke ...
