Can anyone tell me how the Patriot Memory rates compared to what came in my Mini Server. I have heard Samsung, Kinston, Patriot etc.... I want to upgrade to 16GB but Im not sure what is the best to buy. I am not worried about $50.00 difference - I just want whats best. I can see the Patriot is 169.99 but I have not found links for the Samsung or Kinston and where they have the best price. I don't want to regret the memory that I do buy since this is A couple hundred dollars or more.

I do not trust Patriot, just because it's cheap. Macs need high quality memory (i.e. Samsung, Crucial, OWC)

I do not trust patriot due to bad ssd's and bad rma service (very slow)

price means nothing.

owc does not make ram they put their own label over the oem maker. they have great service.

samsung can not be found at a good price.

try gSkill it is cheap but they have great 4gb sticks so maybe the 8gb are good.

Is it known who does?

Someone posted a link in this topic from an Amazon seller though I trust OWC more than an individual seller.

Thanks for the note on Patriot. I suppose I was half right in not recommending them (just gave the wrong reason).

owc ram has been
hynix
micron/crucial
even samsung.

I had some samsung it was good I sold it off.

elpida makes good sticks the chips are elpida sometimes kingston use them.

I purchased 3 notebooks from hp with 16gb as a BTO option the sticks were 560 a pair but I had a 40 percent coupon so I paid 336 a pair. In sept the price was good.

they are in my mini servers as I run vmfusion for windows 7 and I had a 8gb windows and a 8gb mac in each server. If I needed 8gb sticks I would take a shot with the Gskill based on the track record they have with 4gb sticks.

You inspired me to do the same using VMware Fusion 4 to run my Windows 7 64-bit bootcamp partition. The performance was very good with 8GB dedicated to Windows 7. The problem ended up being the LaCie Thunderbolt in Windows Dynamic Disk Stripe Set does not load in VMware Fusion. I use that drive for video processing. So I'm back to dual booting. I can say that Windows 7 64-bit memory usage is lame compared to OSX. Absolutely no benefit as of yet doubling the memory. Maybe the 3 SSDs are hiding it? Windows 7 64-bit also shows 1.6GB available for VRAM on the Intel HD 3000 with 16GB RAM installed.

I have a lot of problems with both the lacie thunderbolt and the promise thunderbolt as they don't work in a lot of programs. on your vmfusion setup did you assign ram to the windows part i assigned windows 8gb seems to work. give me some time I will post on this thread

In bootcamp, Windows has access to 16GB of RAM and a lots 1.6GB to VRAM for the Intel HD 3000.

I did not take note of the memory allocation accessing the bootcamp partition from VMware Fusion 4.

I assigned Windows 7 64-bit 2 Processors and 8GB of RAM in VMware Fusion Virtual Machine Settings.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: VMware Fusion 4 fixes network compatibility issues with Lion OSX. VMware Fusion 4 also eliminates most of the installation files and changes found in previous version for a much cleaner uninstall.

I WAS UNABLE TO GET bootcamp to load and work so I used vmfusion. I am awaiting windows 7 professional disk that loaded in bootcamp with my mac pro and was great. my vm fusion is same as yours 2 processors and 8gb of ram

It's interesting that Micron/Crucial is mentioned as an OWC maker because they have a 16 GB kit at $260 vs. OWC at $360.

I'd still prefer to get Samsung if I can though maybe I'm being way too picky.

Is the $380 tag a sale price or a final price. At any rate, *bookmarked*

Thanks.

380 is full price

"memoryamerica5" is the 5% discount code so 361 is the after discount price.

they are a real company sell a lot of ram.

I sometimes use them but not often.

I did buy this samsung ram from them 1 8gb stick for 250 in sept. I also grabbed 1 8gb stick of samsung on ebay. I sold them and kept the elpida that I pulled from some hp laptops.

BTW you are welcome

I will wait until the memory drop for 16GB then I will upgrade from 2GB to 16GB from macsales.com

Do we know for a fact that the Mac Mini supports adding 16GB? I just bought and installed 2x8GB but on the dashboard it's showing 8GB not 16GB...

Wired 1.12GB
Active 1.31GB
Inactive 268MB
Free 5.32GB
