Does this mean that any 10.6.3 build DVD will work or does it have to specifically be for the Mini? I've got to ring up everyone I know to see who's bought a Mac this week.

I actually got the new Mac OS X 10.6.3 with the sticker in the mail, but I think of returning it because I might have lined up a set of 2010 Unibody Mac Mini disks and I know they work . . .

Return your SL 10.6.3 disc ....

I just confirmed for myself it will NOT recognize all the hardware. No SD and no wired ethernet. Updates are failing, not looking good:(

I'm still experimenting ....

The link I posted above WORKS... so far. I still have to make the kext changes, but I am posting from the SL Client drive on my Mini Server. I'll post screenshots for proof once I'm done... one thing I'll add to the linked instructions though:

Once I have the kexts changed and updated, I plan on making a dmg of the updated client drive for backup and re-loading. This will allow me to re-install a fully updated and functioning SL Client drive on the Mini Server.

The longest part so far is the installation to the external drive.

I read through that thread, and I would rather find the 2010 Mac Mini Restore discs than go through that mess.

It was actually very easy, and now I have a dmg that I can use to install anytime. :) The only time consuming part was the installation to the external drive. Updating the kexts took about 5 minutes.

EDIT: Added a screenshot of About This Mac, System Profiler, and an SD card loaded on to the desktop. :)

You won't have to touch the command line if you don't want to. I just downloaded and used Kext Utility... just drag-and-drop the kext file (in the case of the second kext, make the changes first then drag-and-drop) to the Kext Utility icon and it takes care of everything for you.

A coworker of mine just purchased a MacBook Pro 13" which has essentially the same innards at the new Mac Mini (Core2Duo + 320M). Would it be safe to assume that OS disc for this system would work with the new Mac Mini Server?

No it won't work, the discs that come with packaged with Macs will only work for that designed machine.

However I say that, but if you put the Mac Mini Server into target disk mode, and connect it to your friends Macbook Pro and install the OS through the Macbook Pro onto the Mac Mini . . . that MIGHT and its kind of a long shot, but it might work.

I believe the SD and Ethernet drivers differ.

Thanks. Strange though as I believe they use the exact same chipset and nic.
Well, I just got a copy of the 13-inch Mac Book Pro install media (10.6.3) so I will be giving it a try once I order my hardware today.

Well, it's a SDXC unit on the Mini, so that is an obvious change, the ethernet is a Broadcom 57765, I believe, not the 5764 of the MBP.

are there mac mini (client version) disk available for download anywhere? I assume this would be the easiest method to make the Mini server version to a client. Thanks.

Yes it can be done.

Here is a link to how I got both Snow Leopard using the 2009 MM Client Disk, and Windows XP using BootCamp in the new Snow Leopard installation.

Yes it can be done but there are driver problems that I am trying to work out.

I am looking for a list of ethernet, audio and video hardware that are actually in the OEM 2010 Mac Mini Server. I think if I find drivers for those I can cure the driver problems in both installations. But my main goal is to get XP Pro working completely.

I just checked out your solution and it is very interesting. But your apparent knowledge of the KEXTS is the most interesting to me because I already have both SnowLeopard Client and XP Pro running on the 2010 Server. Thanks in advance, I printed out the Kext section to use as I attempt to repair the two installations.

Following the Kext instructions (mostly), I now have ethernet on my new Snow Leopard Client Desktop on the Server.

My experience was a little different in that the Kext Utility DID properly install the Ethernet Kext with no crash and I see my other computers fine. Thanks.

I have not done the SD Kext as I have no use for the Card Reader.

I got the new mini server. But I wanted to install the normal OSX 10.6, not the server edition. So I called Apple and they assured me that the snow leopard dvd that is sold at Apple.com are 10.6.4 already,so I am good to go. You guys should try the same.
Another questio`: Anyone of you are running the server snow leopard in 1080p ? do you get a little slugishness at the dock sometimes ? Kind of a little lag ?
Thank you!

Nope, no problems whatsoever running Snow Server. I love my Mini Server and especially like gaming on the big screen with Steam under both windows 7 and OSX. I've got one drive for each OS.

That is a very interesting post. There is an extreme amount of posting on this forum as well as the Apple and 123 Forums that say otherwise. I will be watching here, but from what I have read the discs currently out do not install on 2010 MacMini Server. I hope you are right as I would not hesitate to spring for $29 if I can be positive your information is correct. I bought a Snow Leopard Retail DVD about two months ago and it is most certainly not able to install on Server. It is rejected out of hand as not compatible.

It would make a nice coaster if not for that hole in the middle.

Oh well, I can see why a 2 months old snow leopard dvd wont install in the new mini, but the new ones should be fine. I was surprised too when the adviser told me that the snow leopard that are sold now in apple.com are already 10.6.4. And if anything goes wrogn, he also assuredme that I can have my money back. Thats good =D.

It may have taken some effort, but it was also a good learning experience. I am talking to you on Firefox in my Server Client 10.6.4 installation. The Ethernet Kext fix worked perfectly and as far as I can see, this installation is working fine. Wish I could say the same about the XP in BootCamp. I installed the exact XP Pro disk on the Mini Client and it is great. Have a whole list of drivers missing in XP here though. Have you actually installed that NEW SnowLeopard disk on your 2010 Mini Server?

If all is as well in this installation as it seems, I also saved $29. I work cheap.
I just installed the SD Card Kext and it went fine too.

Actually I havent, yet. I am waiting for it to come by the mail. I will post the results here!
Btw, Whats the main differences you felt about the 2 OS ? Why you installed the non-server version ?
