Okay.

I couldn't stand waiting any longer so I ordered a Mac mini through the online education store after no updates were announced Tuesday morning. The shipping estimate was consistent with the website (3-5 business days), until now.

I just received a shipment notification and my Mac mini has shipped from Shenzen, with an estimated delivery date of this coming Monday, October 19th.

The type of Mac mini I purchased is a CTO (base mini w/2.26GHz processor upgrade), so shipping from China isn't necessarily an uncommon thing.

Anywho, I thought I would let you all know. I will report back when the unit arrives.

I was going to do the same thing because I couldn't wait and I'd thought, hey why don't I just order the low-end already and upgrade the ram to 4gb? How much did you pay for it? Jeez, coming from China? It really must be imminent.

$684

I'm also planning on upgrading the RAM and swapping out the hard drive when the mini arrives.

Wow indeed good buy. Planning to stay current with the processor speed for "future proofing" eh? :) I've heard you have to refomat something whenever you're upgrading the internal hard drive? Why not just get an external 1-2TB? Just a suggestion. :) looks like you got something great coming dude.

Future proofing indeed, plus every little bit of CPU power helps.

Good question, I have a new Corsair SSD that will be going in there for extra speed. I have an external drive as well, but it will be for backup purposes.

NNIDIA 9400M in the next mini or back to GMA??

The case didn't, but the internals are entirely different. They changed from the cr@p Intel GMA integrated graphics to the NVIDIA 9400m. They also went from a socketed CPU to being soldered to the logicboard.

Here's my anxiety.... Now after the nVidia announcement that they'll be checking out of the business, are we doomed to be returned to the world of the horrid GMA..... no more 9400M??? :(

If that's the case, I'd rather jump on the current Minis. Any thoughts??

[My worst nightmare would be if :apple: decides to runt the Mini into a Nettop with an Atom and GMA combination downgrade..... the horror!!!!]

I had a similar thought as well. Maybe there is no harm in jumping on one now why we still know what we are getting. Although, I am sure we will not be dissapointed with the new models. Since the 15th has come it might be early 2010 until mini's are updated anyway. We all could just be speculating on the 3-5 day shipping status.

Has anyone seen new rumors that an update is imminent?

Ok it's supposedly the day. I think the mini may not updated until later as the person in the previous post as said. I'm going to make an order for the 2.26ghz (to future proof) in the low end model with 120gb hard drive, purchase AppleCare ($99), and put in maybe configure it to come with 4gb RAM as it will save me time and hassle. Do you guys think I should order a larger HD or should I just use my extra 500gb external WD mybook lying around the house as not only as a backup drive, but an expansion of my internal HD?

With a Mini, I'd always use externals. Much bigger capacities at much lower prices.

Lets say that the new Mini, which hopefully is coming next week, has a better and improved processor speed and more RAM.

Would it then be possible to hook up an extern Blu-ray player and see a blu-ray disc on the new wonder?

mac mini is now up to 5 business days on the danish apple store. It used to be 3-5

Yes, I am sure this would be possible. I have read that others have done similar with there HTPC's. I am going to be doing the same thing. Let me know which Blu Ray disc drives you find that have a good price/review.

...I will report back when the unit arrives.

My CTO Mac mini arrived today, earlier than expected. It is the current generation, nothing new or different according to the specs on the box.

I haven't opened it quite yet, can't decide whether to enjoy it now or wait a tad longer in hopes that Apple updates them within the return period.

So what did you do with it? Open to use it? or gonna hold onto it?

I decided to open and enjoy it. Unless Apple sticks a Core i5 or i7 processor in the revised models, I will be quite content with this machine for a long time.

I was so tempted to press place my order on a refurbished mac mini with the 2.0ghz 320gb hard drive.. for $699...worth it? I'm buying apple care from amazon later. Or should I do what you did and buy a brand new 2.26ghz?

If you are going to stick with the 2.0 GHz processor, why not get the cheaper $499 refurb and then just upgrade the ram and hard drive. Saves some coin and you can get a larger or faster hard drive.

I went to the 5th Avenue NYC Apple Store on Friday night to buy a Mini for use as a music server and was told they were out of all models. I asked the Genius if new ones were coming out and she just smiled and told me she didn't know.

I suppose I can wait another week before ordering one online just to see if I can get more for my money.

Best Buy was also out of stock both in store and online for the 320 gb model.

I'd just really like to know because I just bought the low-end refurb Mac Mini a couple of weeks ago (it was delivered on Wednesday 10/7 actually). From what I read on the Apple website, I have 14 days from when I receive it to return it (granted, I'd get hit with a $50 restocking fee). BUT if they have a new low-end Mini that has a faster processor than the 2.0 GHz C2D, then to me eating the $50 might be worth it. Depends on the new price of the low-end model. If it actually drops to $500 new (not a refurb), then I'd be all over the switch. Clock is ticking though!

If there is anything wrong with your current Mini? Why return it just so you could have the newest?

No, I don't think there is anything "wrong" with it. Coming from a PC that is a Quad-core 2.4, the Mini is noticeably a little slower. If I can get something faster on the Mini for just a little more, I'd rather have the extra speed if I can since the processors don't appear to be upgradeable (as opposed to the RAM and hard drive).

yea If I were you and I was coming from a quad core pc (I am actually doing the exact same thing) there's no way I would've gotten a mini in the first place.
