yea If I were you and I was coming from a quad core pc (I am actually doing the exact same thing) there's no way I would've gotten a mini in the first place.

The iMacs only have C2D processors though from what I can tell. Yes, some are higher GHz, but no quads. Is the Mini really much slower than the lowest iMac?

In my experience, the difference between my mini (2.26) and Macbook Pro (2.66) is really small, especially with Snow Leopard. I guess the iMac has a little faster hard drive. If you'll mainly be using Apple's apps (Mail, Safari, iPhoto, etc.), I think the mini and a refurbished Apple LED display is the way to go.

Well, the 2GHz Mini is a lot slower than the low end iMac I would say.. Hard drive is slower, not as much ram, .66 GHz CPU difference. I would say it's slower by a long way. Now, if you just browse the web or use iPhoto it probably won't matter, but then again, if that's all you do, then why would you use a quad-core PC before?

The C2Q is only really needed on my PC when rendering 3D images in CAD or SolidWorks. Most of the time on the computer is as your said for browsing, office apps, and some photo/video editing.

In my low-end Mini, I upgraded the RAM (was lucky to get a genuine Apple 2 GB stick on ebay for under $10!) and am thinking of getting a scorpio black 7200 RPM drive for about $73 from Newegg. Still a lot cheaper and better performance than their "upgraded" Mini, less the processor speed though.

:D yess!
I'm super stoked for new macs!
however.. I'm a big more excited to see the new iMacs.
let's just hope they'll come out this holiday season.

Just wondering but why are there more stoked folks excited about the imac vs the mac mini? Lets say these individuals have the 24" ACD and apple bluetooth keyboard and mighty mouse. As this is a burning question for me cuz i want to get an imac or mac mini.
