wow I just realized why I don't like Catalina-Tahoe our something bothered me.
GREY TEXT!

Grey text is awful!
How about the Home app's display of temperature settings? The temperature values are grey text on a grey background. The most important information on the screen and it is the least legible of all the text.

Related rant to that screenshot - what's with the Ok checkmark being different colors everywhere? Why would I think a yellow, or especially a red (Reminders) check mark was something I should click for Ok?

Yes I post, you can easily check. And yes, I think that most people seeks help. The issue IS indeed real but often the solution lies in our specific setup (electron apps, antivirus, specific hardware, plugins, ...).

To be clear I, personally, don't like that Apple screw up some basic things (ex drivers) without warning but let's be serious... there is still no competition (linux or windows)
So it’s my non existent plugins that make my wiped Mac act up?
Sure, let’s put the blame somewhere else.
I agree that many issues are user and setup specific, but when these issues only occur once you updated to macOS 26, I wouldn’t dare blame the user or the third party developer for it. I blame Apple.
You’re probably also right that most people seek help. But we were talking about providing help or stirring up a conversation that can be looked up on the web. Most people definitely don’t do that.

But it's also nonsensical to broadly say "X is a bug riddled mess". Remember that generally most users who have positive experiences don't crawl on forums too shout their praises. They go about their day and use the product.

That said, Tahoe (and iOS 26) fixed problems I was experiencing prior to upgrading. My 32" iPad Air was having a battery issue where it would barely last a day and I was having a lot of app crashes on its. M2Pro Mini was having issues losing connections that were plugged into my USB-A ports, and some weird app/driver crashes (especially with my Huion digital tablet), those have since been cleared up.

Plus hey, loving the return of Frutiger Aero with LG.
I don’t disagree, simply stating something isn’t right without further details doesn’t help anyone either.
That’s why I, personally, converse with people about the specific problems I have, often with screenshots, and usually I have reported these problems already in the feedback app.
It’s great that 26 actually fixed someone’s problems. Wish that was the case for everyone.

Tahoe is I guess the rare accidental W for still being on a 2017 iMac, given the OpenCore folks haven't gotten it running yet anyway and so I'm in no rush to leave the more stable Sequoia lol

Well, until a few more point releases or my favorite apps like NNW go Tahoe only at least 🥲

Think I will probably upgrade iOS when 26.1 hits at least.

Long run, am guessing this machine is destined for Linux though.

give Mojave a try......im using that on my older macs and everything works!

am i the only one who has been using 26 on multiple machines and hasnt had any issues? lol
the only bump in the road here is, my calendar often comes up with the wrong first day (it's always open, often hidden, and set up to start on monday). otherwise, no major complaints or issues

Apple should clean their desk. Back to basics, what they were once good at. Get rid of 80% cruft. Focus on excellent hardware, one core (open) operating system (macOS) and one safe AppStore for consumers to make sure they get quality assured and privacy respecting quality apps at nog 'apple premium', but as a service to make the most out of the hardware Apple intends to sell. Restore the 'it just works' mantra. What the heck, make it 'it just works flawlessly'.

K.I.S.S.

isn't that just ipad OS minus the open part that apple clearly doesn't want to do ?

It's clear that the next generation of useless engineers are completely taking over those that built the iPhone and OS X, and it's a sad day.

Another possibilty better engineers are going to more interesting projects look at xAI and the rate of development there
Having been used to apple just working V26 on everything has simply sucked
Confirmed I get better download speed on icab and Brave than Safari by a factor of 100
AppleTV v26 seems to have broken some streaming apps they seem to have trouble deciding between 2160p or 1080p or lower as a result and continually buffer
So many quirks and problems I turned off auto update on all devices for now
I realy hop 26.1 fixes it
Having said that Apple doesn’t need to be bleeding edge but it needs to work at least the core function liquid glass I don’t need browser that is can work without choking for now safari is dead to me

For a company that only designs OSs for only hardware they build (unlike, say Windows or Linux), and which makes much of of going through (at least a year of) Betas - in-house and Developer - the sloppiness and indifference to logical design; finished, stable product; and user experience cannot be underplayed.

'Think different' used to imply quality and ease of use - now it means, forget what you once hoped for from Apple.

A decade ago, Apple conveyed quality, performance, and professional use to me. I loved the glowing Apple logo on my MacBook Pro 2013 laptop cover. Now, Apple is more focused on UI and seems to be declining in quality.

I'm writing this now from a MS Surface laptop. I have decided to stop buying any other Apple hardware in the next 2 years or longer. I have installed Win11 on my still powerful intel iMac to give it a longer life. MacOS 26 is horrible. While Apple adds new emojis, Microsoft Surface offers Click To Do, and they will soon bring local AI agents.

I'm unsure if MS will implement these features nicely, but I want to mention them to show that Microsoft innovates, their UI is smooth, readable, moves out of my way and helps me get my work done.

If Apple continues its current path maybe we will need another "Steve Jobs" to save the company in the future. Has anyone else felt this shift?

tahoe isn't perfect, but when is anything perfect? OSes are always 'in progress'; hence, betas and point updates.

in the meanwhile, it's running fast & stable. my apps all work. so, in the overall scheme of things, i am having a great time on a great mac, running a great OS.

why is tahoe horrible? it's not that different from sequoia, it just looks a little different.

I was out of the Apple ecosystem, I used for the last 3 years a very powerful PC, a Microsoft Surface Pro and had Sony Xperia and Google Pixel phones. It was a miserable experience. I am using usually Macs since the first MacBook with an Intel CPU (I don't remember which year was that). I am now back and what a joy. Tahoe is working so nice for me and I like the new UI. Maybe it needs some minor tuning which I am pretty sure Apple will do it. Ah and I do not feel sorry for Ive & Co, for the first time again my MBP has an SDXC card reader and 128 GB of RAM. This is the Apple computer I have been waiting for. Perhaps people complaining need some time out, like me, to see that Apple is still the best solution. The ones who complain about Tahoe should be forced to live with Windows 11 for a while to see what "Utter Garbage" really means

The thing is, very few actual Mac users back then upgraded to OS X 10.0 or 10.1 — most people stayed on OS 9 because those early builds were almost unusable for daily work. Even Adobe users didn’t really move over until 10.2 Jaguar.

So yeah, 10.0 was rough, but it’s a bit of an extreme example since hardly anyone was using it full-time.
You know what was MORE important to Apple than the “actual Mac users” not upgrading until 10.1? The folks that were buying iMacs that shipped with macOS 10.0.4. If Apple hadn’t sold a profitable number of Macs to non “actual Mac users”, then “actual Mac users” wouldn’t have had a 10.2 to install on their systems. :)

You can see the carelessness and horrible work throughout. Non cohesive designs, BUGS EVERYWHERE, loss of caring of whats going on behind the hood, and chasing visual eye candy over function.

Design - i'll give you that, different/wrong radius corners everywhere, but hey its a major UI update first release.

Bugs everywhere? What have you run into? My experience has been pretty solid and some of the new features (especially regarding call filtering, etc.) are genuinely great.

I have exactly the opposite experience. For work and learning I'm utterly amazed how good is Windows 11 on MS Surface Laptop. My productivity increased noticeably. I've been using Apple ecosystem for quite some time, now I'm going to stick with your recommendation about Windows 11, and I recommend the experience for any Apple fan just to check this out.

I am sorry but I disagree with you, I am so disappointed in Windows 11. If you do not customize it you literally see adds in the Start Menu, it's very bad. Pushing CoPilot is also bad. I went to a lot of trouble just to customize the install.wim and remove all of the crap Microsoft throws in there in order to get a clean install. This is difficult for the regular user. Also the design of Windows is just ugly. Don't get me started about the Nvidia drivers. I constantly had to tune my Windows just to keep it in a good working condition. In contrast a Mac is a joy to use. I really used only Windows and Android for the last 3 years and it feels good to be back with Apple. That's my honest opinion. Everyone with his own preference. I feel a relief being back to Apple, they evolved quite a lot during these 3 years I was out.
