Or with the size of the updates they could be switching to iOS week a MacOS week b to reduce downloading on their server
Stop it. You keep reposting your idea here for the third time now. No. That ain't the f****** reason. How many people do you think there are in a beta? Do you think that will kill their servers while releasing the final versions of both iOS and macOS to the general public on the same day is fine?
Just stop spamming and start thinking, dammit.

Beta 5 out, but with a caveat: "macOS Big Sur 11 beta 5 is not currently supported for iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)"
Any adventurous souls installing on that machine, since that was the genesis of this thread?

Where did you read that? Not seeing it anywhere, and was able to trigger the download from my 2020 iMac unlike previous betas.

Is there any way to get the complete installer (12+ GB) rather than the update, other than from Catalina? I don't see an option to download the full Beta 5 installer in Software Update.

The Release Notes clearly state that the newest iMacs are not yet supported.

Which machine are you trying to run the update from? I am on Catalina and it is showing for me in Software Update under System Preferences. Also could you please link to the release notes saying 2020 iMacs aren't supported?

That was a quote from the release notes for the developer beta 5

For those asking this is at the top of the release notes:

> macOS Big Sur 11 beta 5 is not currently supported for iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020). If you encounter an installation issue on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020), you need to reinstall macOS Catalina. Hold down the power button to force restart, and then press Command-R immediately after turning on your Mac. Then, follow instructions to reinstall macOS Catalina from Recovery.

Update to Beta 5 from Catalina on a 2020 27" iMac is not proceeding past the white apple on a black background after booting. Reinstalling Caltalina as per the release notes...

Anyone with a different outcome on a 2020 27" iMac?

That sucks. Trying now - how did you update?
