House cats would be cool. But historical dictator names would be interesting also...

The new MacBook Pro specs:

7ghz quad core PowerPC g9 CPU (I wish they would start making CPUs in-house again)
15 gb of ram
4tb ssd
13" retina display
...
Comes with Mac OS XI 11.0 Hitler and iLife 14

It cost to much for them to make underpowered and less functional CPU's in house. I only say less functional because Windows was unable to run on non-intel CPU's. The ability for your Mac to run Windows was a huge selling point for Apple. It also allowed them to argue that with your Mac running Windows there wasn't a better time to switch to a Mac because it had the best of both worlds.

I don't know even know what to say about the Hitler thing. I'm guessing sarcasm but this is the Internet so you might be serious who knows?

Upon further examination I got a very good laugh from the 4tb SSD. Sarcasm confirmed, and well received. Lol

Lynx would be perfect, as it would create a smooth transition to a new OSX naming scheme since there is a constellation named after this particular cat. If Apple took advantage of this we could see future releases like...

OSX Andromeda
OSX Aries
OSX Gemini
OSX Hydrus
OSX Orion
OSX Pisces

Hey, don't forget about us Scorpio's; we'll cut a b***h, incredibly competitive and will stop at nothing when wronged :p

Re: Mac OS X Naming Scheme

Even though it is predominantly referred to as "OS-ten" (incorrectly in my opinion), the X in Mac OS X refers to the X in Unix (just as many other Unix variants do so). OS9 was not the name of the former OS either. It was simply version 9 of an OS called Mac OS. When the OS was completely redone, the new name migrated from Mac OS to Mac OS X because it was now a Unix variant. Thus, there will never be an OSXI as some posts have suggested.

Galaxies?

There are loads of galaxies with cool sounding names. It could go well with their new wallpapers

I think the OP is looking way too much into this, lol.

But people in here can keep guessing, maybe someone will actually nail it. I think they will just go to numbers.

The only thing about these names that seem interesting to me were not so much the cats themselves, but the variations of the last 4 names:

Leopard
Snow Leopard
Lion
Mountain Lion

Sticking with the same name, just giving different variations of each makes me think that to them, the jump from Leopard to Snow Leopard wasn't exactly ground breaking (however I wouldn't know, Lion was my first OS X) and that Mountain Lion won't be a huge leap from Lion.

For me, however, I think ML is quite the step up from Lion. Maybe not as huge as Win7 was from Vista, but then again, anything was better than Vista, lol. I dunno, we'll see. You guys keep speculating, hopefully one of you guesses right.

The small changes in name are due to the visual looks of the os. Snow Leo and ml are improvements build over the previous os. Leopard had some problems, and snow leopard fixed them and added new features. Lion had problems, and Mountain Lion is fixing them and adding more features. But both pretty much keep the same look as the previous (except the dock in ml)

Felidae
'Smilodon fatalis' narrowly edged out 'Tyrannosaurus rex' to win this year's Most Badass Latin Names competition, after edging out 'Dracorex hogwartsia' and 'Stygimoloch spinifer' (meaning 'horned dragon from the river of death') in the semifinals.

I'd have to agree with Cougar, I don't think apple would steal a name from another OS. (Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot)

It wouldn't be the third time apple reuses a name (10.1 puma). And 10.3 panther. A panther can be a Leopard, Jaguar, Cougar and can be the same as a puma unless were talking black/white panther. A puma is a Cougar/Mountain Lion/Catamount/Panther.

Apple can still use Catamount after Cougar although they probably won't. Maybe it will be Lynx. I like the sound of that.
