My rumor sources are telling me that OS X 10.9, if there is such a thing, will NOT use a cat name - Apple has run out of cats. ;)

So which big cat will be used after ML?

Been thinking of this for awhile and I can't think of any other big cats for apple to use (I'm sure theres many) after ML.. What are your thoughts?

(I know ML isn't even out yet before anyone states the obvious!)

My sources tell me you're all wrong. Future versions of Apple's OS (which, for all I know, may not even be called OS X anymore) will NOT be using big cat names. The most plausible replacement I know about is wine names. Therefore, I expect OS X (or XI) "Chablis". ;)

Honestly, I think they always intended to use Cougar at some point along the way and that word was co-opted so they didn't, leaving them one short. They may jump ahead to whatever the naming scheme will be for OS 11.

They have used all the (non-extinct) big cat names besides Cougar. That leaves two plausible possibilities, OS X Sabertooth and OS X Leo.

Hoping for sabretooth, that would be awesome! :D

Probably won't be Lynx due to a deodorant of the same name in the UK. Never know, though. Could also be cougar or clouded leopard, though I think the leopards have had their time.

Probably eventually there'll be no codenames, which would be a shame as they were one of the really quirky things I enjoyed about OS X.

Don't rule out a different name of the same cat, though: mountain lion, puma, cougar and panther are all the same.

Well aren't there any other cat names left? I don't think we'll see OS XI for another 7-8 years.
