No more cats. Apple are splitting Mac Os into
Home, Premium, Super and Wonderful versions
based on small mammals.

Lynx, Ocelot or Cougar... although I wonder if they will continue to ride out OS X until 10.9 with the wildcat naming scheme or drop it for something more... thematically neutral like iOS?

It would be silly if they call the next release Cougar. Cougar, Puma, and Mountain Lion are all names for the same animal. I wouldn't be surprised, though, since they decided to go with ML even though they've already used Puma.

My sources tell me you're all wrong. Future versions of Apple's OS (which, for all I know, may not even be called OS X anymore) will NOT be using big cat names. The most plausible replacement I know about is wine names. Therefore, I expect OS X (or XI) "Chablis". ;)

Linux already beat them to that.

I recall reading they had trademarked Lynx, and Bobcat a few years ago. Since they seem to be going to variations with 'SL' and 'ML' we could see Siamese Tiger, Cougar, Albino, etc.

Personally, I like Liger, Gryphon, or TurboLionAlphaForceThrustInfityMax.
