You're all correct. a nMP isn't for gaming - it's a mac for professionals doing work. But it's good that its ALSO for gaming

Mac Pro 2013 Gaming?

It's actually for anyone who can afford it, and who wants it.
It's also for those who want a desktop powerful Mac that looks cool and is very quiet and they want to use their own monitors with, the only other option is the Mac Mini.
I am really thinking about how I can afford a 6 core with D700's, because it will last me for years and I can get a couple of nice monitors hooked up to it.
Oh and I wouldn't mind dabbling in 3D animation, I have played with 3DS Max before years ago on Windows, sadly I cannot in any way afford it and I see their is no free watermarked version of Maya either, only 30 day trials. But I can afford Cinema 4D Prime and they have a decent demo version.

But if you aren't a professional, you have no business buying such a machine...according to some!
Games rarely use more than 4 cores, and they prefer High frequency CPUs along with good GPUs.
So for just gaming the Quad, and Hex with D700's would do better than 8 and 12 cores.
8 is great for gaming. It boosts to 3.8 Ghz on two active cores, which is faster than the Quad or the Hex (both 3.7 at two cores). And games mostly use 1-2 cores. But 8 is overkill just to get 100 mhz faster 2 core speed.
Cool, thanks. I will be buying either 8 or 12 core anyway as a work machine. But love to game too, I knew the 8 core would be better just wasn't sure how much games need CPU these days. Cheers I think my mind is made up.. A maxed out 8 core! Thanks for your response.

And I would ignore them all, seeing as it's MY money! Plenty of people have very high end gaming PCs which are more powerful then the Mac Pro I would want, yet no one would tell them you shouldn't have that computer.

I bought a Porsche once and lived in a small village next to a busy town, I couldn't open it up and didn't want to race it on a track so many purist fans turned their nose down at me. I didn't care, it was the best car I have ever owned, loved it and only used about 50% of what the car could actually do. Like I say, Luxury
In the end I sold it to fund 6 month travel around Australia. I miss it daily.
Cheers, yea seen that before. The bit I don't understand (and sorry if I'm being stupid) is the 12 core for example when all cores are being used the minimum speed is 3.0GHZ when the base speed is 2.7GHz? So at what point does the 12 core run at 2.7? Thanks anim.

haha just posted a similar idea in another thread. Exactly as you say, plenty of luxury things cost a lot of money when something a lot cheaper will do, but I say you only live once so treat yourself.
But man your's is a tough one! 6 months of memory's for several years of driving fun! I bet you miss it! Hmm I do like the style Porsche has, with their interiors particularly. Well made too.
Although I wouldn't get 4K monitors as I see them as a waste of time UNLESS you need them for your work. they need to come down in price and size yet.
And a lot of those machines will top out at WELL over the 4-6k most people are spending on their nMP!
