Well, it was an official Apple support page, I can't find it at the moment, so I'm okay if you don't believe me.
I just made it up...

Not a problem ;)

Well, since our leadership at the top does nothing but make **** up, I guess we all get a pass too...

I think he means this paragraph.

Supported Configurations macOS 10.14 supports: • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer) • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer) • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer) • Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer) • iMac (Late 2012 or newer) • iMac Pro (2017) • Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid 2010 and mid 2012 models with recommended Metalcapable GPU) *Support for 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models will be available in an upcoming beta

Not sure what you're talking about. What specific leadership are you referring to?

I don't need a pass, you can either believe my statement or not. Your choice... Has nothing to do with any leadership.

Sorry if you are offended.

They stopped that for quite a while already.

Hmm...Ok...I mean - not for .1 update betas but for the initial HS last summer as well?

So...with such approach...We will not be able to test public betas on any Nvidia card besides GTX680 until the first final release...

Did they? I think the last beta driver is for Sierra, not High Sierra.

Isn’t GTX 760 native as well? So you could use one of those if you require Nvidia for some reason.

I’m wondering how firmware updates can be applied if you don’t have a Metal capable EFI card. I guess my original Apple HD 5870 won’t be good for anything anymore.

I want to keep my NVIDIA GT 120 in my Mac Pro 4,1 (flashed to 5,1) alongside my NVIDIA GTX 1060 so I can get video long enough to install web drivers for my 1060 after each OS update... is this likely to work?

If not, will there be another compatible single-wide graphics card that I can install so I can boot up after updates to install the web driver? I can’t afford to give up a PCIe slot for another double-wide card.

I don't think we know for sure yet, but I really don't think it will work at all. From what I'm reading you will need Metal to even draw the GUI screen elements. So I don't think the GT120 will work for anything (maybe single user mode)?

Interesting to see Apple recommending/supporting upgrades beyond what was available when a Mac was new in order to run a new OS, I don't remember that ever happening before - I guess it proves they know they messed up with the 2013 Mac Pro, if they had just continued updating the towers then the 2010 model would presumably be out of support now.

Hopefully they don't do something that makes it impossible to run the new OS on the older graphics cards, even if they are only officially supporting Metal-capable ones now...

So can anyone clear up what would be a realistic solution?

-Thanks
Mojave won't install on anyone's cMP yet, so I don't know that anyone knows what solutions will be available. Might need to wait until Apple releases more info on what cards they recommend for Mojave, or a future beta that is installable on the cMP.

Don't wanna argue on this because LightBulbFun really knows his Macs :) , but it could be as easy as just editing IstallableMachines.plist, PlatformSupport.plist and Distribution file in OSInstall.mpkg.
It was a long time ago when i've done it on my cMP1,1 but i think those were the files.

I haven't seen this "Support for 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models will be available in an upcoming beta" anywhere except here. Can you tell as where did you read that? Thank you

You're talking about the specific blurb that states support will be added in an upcoming beta? It's from the Beta 1 release notes:

Supported Configurations

macOS 10.14 supports:

  • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)

I read in another thread that MacVidCards is now offering an NVIDIA GT 630 and 640, which appear to be available in single-slot sizes with no need for supplemental power, and they have Metal support. Looks like this is exactly what I will need to boot into the system after OS updates to install the updated NVIDIA web drivers for my GTX 1060 6GB. Thanks!
