Hi, I wanted to ask you for personal help on how to configure my old Mac Pro 5.1 2010
For the moment I purchased these components:

Slot 1 Crucial ssd mx 500 1tb (disk4s1)
Slot 2 Seagate 1tb (disk1s2)
Slot 3 Wd blue 2tb (disk3s2)
Slot 4 Wd red nas 4tb (disk2s2)

It must come to me soon:
2x Intel Xeon x5690 3.46 Ghz Six-Core CPU matched pair Mac Pro 5.1 + 128gb RAM

Mini PCI-E 52pin Adapter For BCM94360CD

Broadcom BCM94360CD 802.11ac WiFi card + Bluetooth 4.0

I was interested in knowing, the best thermal paste, cleaning liquids, can to perform the cpu replacement job, and what I could put in my pcie ports

i would like usb 3.1, gigabit ethernet, amd video card better

I would like to take a pcie card to start ssd 2.5, but I've seen that they also exist for nvme versions, and I don't understand in terms of performance they are different compared to connecting an ssd on pcie port always with adapter

about the usb3 pcie card - 3.1 I was undecided between these: inateck kt4004, HighPoint RocketU 1144, CalDigit FASTA-6GU3 Pro, Sonnet Allegro USB 3.0 4-port but I don't understand the substantial differences between the various models, especially if they can recharge the ipad, iphone devices and start booting from external boxes hd-ssd

only the sonnet supports PD - but only on one mobile device at one time

I have always used Isopropanol alcohol the 99% variety for cleaning all my electronics, cpus and their heatsinks. It works very well and leaves nothing on the part once it evaporates away. For your NVMe question you will want to read the mega thread below for it. Oh and now I think I have the kt4004 card it is only USB3 not the 3.1.

Don't even need the fibre cloth I always use paper towel with a little soaked onto it. You will be throwing it away after the cleaning with the residue on it anyways. That cleaner and purifier is in my opinion, a fool and their money soon parted option. I fail to see any sense in it once you have cleaned the surface with the alcohol it is pure as it will be. Good luck with your upgrades. Ah, do you have the torx T15 screwdriver that can be used for the heatsink removal? You do not need the Allen key most recommend it just needs to be four inches long.

It is the same process for making all of them no difference. The torque not really needed you will figure it out easily enough the heatsink is designed to only tighten one way, correctly. Do it in a criss-cross pattern start with the single on the end for half a dozen turns then go to one of the corners, next an opposite corner. Onto one of the two left until all done the first round. Start again with the single turning until you feel it get snug. Repeat the process of the criss-cross tightening all of them until snug. Do the second heatsink in the same manner and you should be good to go.

Oh and now I remember you are doing the ram too. I just read in a post by tsialex that the ram put into these machines has to be the dual ranked variety or it will run at the lower 1066speed not the 1333 speed you want for the full speed used. It needs to be of the 2R not 4R variety for the quad ranked ones, he said when responding to a question/thread why the 96gb in a machine was not running at the higher speed. The man knows as much if not more than most apple employees about these things.

Edit: And I still had this open from the thread for the proper stuff, reasonable price and the speedpak is damn fast, china to me for a pair of the 3.46 just about a month ago in a week.

Google does it well enough to read. Thermal pads for the procedure no. Not unless you have a 4,1 machine upgraded to a 5,1 is this what you have? If you do then you are better off buying the already delided processors on Ebay they go reasonably cheap now. That listing you show is outright theft.

Even that last one is unreasonable, over a $100 dollar markup for a 10 second procedure. The putting in vice and removing the heatsink it is simple to do. I have done it myself twice.

For the thermal paste question. I am not sure which is better I have always went with the Arctic Silver 5 it works well for this. The heatsink on the processors is really good I do not think the paste matters as much. If the heat starts to get to much then you need to use a custom fan profile.

Edit: I would add that the 2 or 3% speed gain you will see from using the 5690 processors over the 5680 is not worth paying the extra price.

It should be enough for dozens of applications on a processor, you only need a tiny amount. You put the tiny amount in the center of the processor then the heatsink on the top. It will spread it out and when the heat from the processor hits it, it will spread thinner again. After a few of these heat up and cool down cycles it will be at its best for use.

Temperatures being higher is to be expected when comparing to the older processors. Not sure what program that is but it appears to say 71 C for one processor and 56 C for another. The lower 56 is a reasonable temperature and the design of the air flow explains the higher second one as the heated air from the first goes past it to the exhaust. Keep checking when it is under load to see the temperatures then and the fan speed increasing to help cool it better, but I think you will be fine with it.

Geekbench 5 if so the scores are tiny in comparison to those larger ones you see. Those are for an older version of that program which calculated the scores differently.

Same machines for processors totally different scores. And your score is in line with all of the others for a Geekbench 5 result.

Well with that now showing 42 C and 34C at idle with nothing running, you have great temperatures nothing to worry about.
