Thanks, I was quite surprised it hit that score. Beto's score is even more impressive. Good to know that these "lowly" 2x2.26 can still perform more than adequately.:)

I've got 10gb of ram so far.

upgrade your 2,26 to 3,2 or 3,3 (if you can afford it) and get around 20000+-. Ram seems to make the most difference though.

this is the before and after 2010 quad 2.8 to a 2010 hex 3.2

64 bit test

9,843 to 15,245. I can't seem to find a more recent 2.8 quad score then the 9800 but I never got it past 10,000.

Would love to upgrade my 2x2.26 but would need to find the lidless 2.66 xeon cpu.

I don't think I would want to even consider trying to press on a regular lid cpu on to the unclamped board and risk destroying the cpu's along with the cpu daughter board like what happened at Anantech.

I do like the silent and cool current Mac Pro setup with my 2.26 only drawing 80w while the 2.66 I believe draws 130. With 2x2.66 and 24 gbs of ram should bring up the Geekbench score hopefully to 18000.

Definitely gonna have to get more ram, maybe get rid of my 1 gb sticks and just get 6 x 4gb sticks.

I did the transplant, upgraded the ram and added an SSD drive. My machine has nothing to do with a stock 2,26.

Ah, not worth the trouble. I'll just hand my 2.26x2 eventually to my brother and pick up the Sandy bridge Mac Pro when it comes out.

The 2.26x2 will suffice for now with the upgrade of ram to 24gbs when I pick up some 6x4gb sticks this week. I have already an OCZ Colossus SSD 120gb installed in my Mac Pro along with 2 tbs of storage. It's all good for now.

Anyways, lets keep the Geekbench scores coming! Let's seem them folks.

That's what I think as well. I have the same machine as you and upgrading the processors just isn't cost effective (unless you can get a deal on the CPUs). The next generation Sandy Bridge Pros will likely to have more performance with only one CPU than an upgraded octad 2009 machine and probably costs as much as the upgrade would.

This Mac Pro is a Beast! Instead of buying the 12-Core I saved the extra money and bought SSD's and extra Ram! And it rocks!

32 bit score

Quite pleased with this score in the 32 bit version. I have an OWC mercury extreme Pro SSD & 24 GB of ram.

Just upgraded my 8 core 2010 2.4ghz machine with two W5580's @ 3.2.
Still running 12gb of 1066 memory so moving up to 24gb 1333 should help the number some. Pulls ~150 watts more under full load (folding@home) and the temps are higher, but the whole system is noticeably faster.

Memory upgrade is in place.... didn't help the number as much as I thought it would:
